Lennon Bone says artists should post 70% personal content about their mission and life, 30% actual artwork and sales pitches. He recommends testing this split with five posts a week for 90 days to attract followers who care about your values, not just your work.

I know a lot of artists feel like I don't know what to post online, so I'm gonna give you what I call the 70/30 rule. 70% of your content shouldn't talk about your art directly. It should talk about you as a human. What's your mission? Like, how are you trying to change your little corner of the world? What do you value in life besides your art? What are things that you're excited about right now? Books, TV shows, ideas. This can be 70% of your content. You can have your art in the background. You can be in process as you're talking about these things. But this allows people to get drawn into you first, and then you get to introduce them to the work. So you'll not only get more eyeballs, but you'll get more of the right eyeballs because they're going to have similar values and stories as you. Then 30% of your content is all about the art directly. This can be behind the scenes stuff. This can be process things. And you better believe that it needs to be things like, hey, this is how you get on my email list and here's how you buy my stuff. Try this split out for 90 days, 5 posts a week at minimum, and I guarantee you'll see a difference.
