By age ten, kids with ADHD have heard over 20,000 negative messages about themselves. That constant criticism forces them to develop resilience, learning to shake it off and keep moving forward like a dog shaking off water.

How ADHD is a blessing for resilience. So one downside to ADHD, as we've talked about before, is that generally by the time you're 10 years old, you've heard more than 20,000 more negative messages about yourself than anyone else. All of those experiences of feeling kind of mentally beat up or a little bit like a mental punch bag means that from a really young age, we've come up with systems and tools and ways of combating that. So we've talked before also about spilled milk. There's things that happen every day that make us feel like a 10-year-old. No matter how old we become. And the fact that that happens over and over, that makes us resilient because we always kind of have to do what a dog does when they just go like that and they shake it off and they move forward because we know that there's nothing we can do about it. It's gonna happen again. So we just kind of mentally shrug our shoulders, move forward. And with that resilience, we kind of dust ourselves off and we move forward and decide, okay, this is how it is now. Where do I go from here?
