People with ADHD often develop stronger empathy because they've experienced being misunderstood and mistreated for their unconventional behavior. That repeated outsider experience creates a deep understanding of what it feels like to be hurt, making them more attuned to others' suffering and more generous in response.

How ADHD is a blessing for empathy. If you have ADHD, you're probably more empathetic than most people. There are many reasons why this might be happening. A few of them include the fact that we do feel kind of mentally beat up a lot as we grow up. That means that we understand what it feels like to feel kind of like you're an outsider or feel like what you have to say doesn't matter or second-guess yourself all the time because people are saying, That's weird. Why do you do it that way? So the upside to this is we become more empathetic for other people. And if we see other people being mistreated, that usually is a trigger for a lot of neurodivergent people because we have felt that way many days of our lives. So having ADHD gives you a lot of different skill sets and tools to help you understand other people, be more generous with them, be more empathetic, and connect with them deeper.
