ADHD medications like immediate-release pills last about four hours, extended-release up to twelve. When they wear off, your brain returns to baseline within a day or two. The drugs aren't addictive and you can stop whenever you want.

What happens when ADHD medication wears off? Well, one really good thing about ADHD medication is that it does wear off. So whether you're taking a pill that lasts for 4 hours or one that is slow release throughout the day for 12 hours, once those 4 or 12 hours are over, it's out of your system. So it's not something that you would necessarily get addicted to or that you would have to take for the rest of your life. You can choose to, but I've worked with plenty of people who have taken medication and then decided that wasn't the best way for them and they went by other means. So what you want to know is that it actually is only helpful and not risky to take ADHD medications. And when it wears off, your brain is going to be where it was before you ever took medication. And within a day or two, you probably wouldn't even notice that you were taking medication before.
