Hank Haney, Tiger Woods' former coach, describes how Tiger sizes people up in seconds by asking who they can connect him with. If you're useful, he engages. If not, he ignores you. The lesson: treat people as valuable and they'll reciprocate.

The law of reciprocity, that karma's a real deal, that what goes around comes around. When I interviewed Hank Haney, Tiger Woods' golf coach, and I asked him all about Tiger, he said that Tiger has an influence on everybody that he meets. And Tiger has an ability to discern within 3 to 10 seconds if this person can do something for him, which is what most people do. Who can he connect me with? And he says Tiger Woods, he assesses that in 3 to 10 seconds. And if he knows that person can't help him, he doesn't even talk to him. He completely ignores them, walks past them. When you treat people like they, they, they are somebody special that you want to serve, suddenly the law of reciprocity comes around and they say, what can we do for you?
