Jason Haugen owns three private jets: a leased block of flight hours, a small personal jet, and a Gulfstream that charters to generate revenue. Bonus depreciation lets him write off 100% of the purchase price one year, 80% the next, and 60% after that, making the economics work.
You have bought how many jets now?
This would be our third one.
Okay, so walk us through why you're buying jets and then how you make the economics work behind buying 3 private jets.
Well, one of them we have as a lease, we buy a block and then we use that block whenever we want to. And one of them is just a little jet. That's pretty much my personal plane that we don't, we don't charter out. And then one of them, our big, big one, is a Gulfstream. That's a complete charter plane. We turn that into a revenue stream and pretty much just mitigates all the costs. There's a lot of tax advantages to airplanes. I believe now it's 80% of the purchase price in one year. Yeah, last year was 100%. This year is 80%.
I think next year it's going to 60%, right?
We bought all of our planes last year, 100% write-off, and you can move it forward so you can do like a 5-year depreciation schedule, 3-year I believe, or, or take it all in one year.
