Two fund managers argue that urgency and hustle separate winners from the rest in venture capital. Without relentless pressure, managers can't raise capital or close deals. The intensity burns hard, but those who internalize it and perform for their backers tend to win.
For an emerging manager, I mean, you just have to have hustle, right? Like, I know it's same as an entrepreneur, but you have to be so dedicated to the VC.
Sounds simple, but it's once you go through it, you go, oh shoot, there's a difference in burn.
I mean, there are so many managers I see that lack urgency, and you're not gonna raise money unless you have urgency, right? You're not gonna get deals closed unless you have urgency. And, you know, you just need to be waking up and feeling this, sense of pressure that, hey, I need to perform for myself, my family, my investors, my partners, all the stakeholders and shareholders here. And it's— I feel like those that have that urgency are always doing better.
