Hello, my friends, and welcome to the Social Distance Happy Hour. I'm Gary Scott Thomas. Bryan Kramer is on his way. We have a great musical guest tonight, and I know many of you sit back and wait because I've talked to you. You wait for the one, the only King Raffi, and let's see. Hopefully, he'll magically appear here in just a minute.
Here I am, na na na na na, rock you like a hurricane.
May I, may I remind all of you who are watching right now that out of the 3 of us, only one of us does not drink, and it's not me. It's only— if you're gonna have a martini, you're not gonna play with nunchucks and not, and not live to talk about it.
Hold on. Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Ah! Huh? Huh? Huh? Oh, oh, okay.
You know, the
fact,
the fact that you have only one glove on, Michael Jackson, to do your London Chucks, that, that you're only COVID safe on your right hand.
That's right, I am COVID safe.
We are— we hope you had a great week. We hope, uh, we hope that it's, it's been a wonderful, uh, calm week and that you've had Thank you for making it to Friday. How was your week, Rafi?
You know, um, just, uh, how was my week? You know, um, it was a good week, I think. Um, you know, I don't know if I told you this, I'm doing this 30-day challenge where I'm supposed to hit 10,000 steps a day, and which is a big deal for me because sitting in an office all day, you're, you know, you're lucky to push 2 2,000 steps a day.
Yeah.
So I'm on day 14 or something like that, and I've— I have not missed a day yet. So I'm doing well there. So it's been great. It's been awesome. And business is— business is no better. That's the truth.
Business— yeah, see, now you might want to start a drink. Business is no better for everybody, but I can tell you— well, as somebody just said, the hospitals are getting a little busier again. They're actually— there have been— I was talking to the chief nursing officer over at Good Sam this morning, as I do each and every Friday on KRTY. That's where I work.
Yeah.
And he was saying that they're seeing more and more people go to the emergency room because people are less afraid. And they only have 2 COVID patients, and one was going home today, or hopefully, and the other one was going home next week. And, and so it's, it's, it's— there are signs that are getting better. And you realize what's coming back this weekend? NASCAR is racing live.
Are they really?
No fans, but they're racing a lot. And the German soccer league, the Bundesliga.
Well, those leagues are coming back too.
They're playing this.
I did not know that.
We are big Bayern Munich fans at our house, and so we are all geared up for the Bayern Munich game Sunday morning, 9 AM.
Dude, I had no idea you were a soccer fan.
I became one because my, my, my son started playing soccer. And, and through osmosis, because one of his coaches said, watch soccer, that's how you learn, watch.
Right.
And once you— and I grew up in South Alabama, right? I mean, I'm all Roll Tide. I mean, football my entire life. And as I started watching soccer, and you see the athleticism, and you see the, for lack of a better word, artistry Yes, some of these players, it became captivating. And I'm telling you, I, I love it so much. I watch soccer whenever it's on now. I've become about soccer the way I am about American football. If it's on, if it's on, I watch it. And I don't care what game it is. I don't care if it's La Liga. I don't care if it's Italia Serie A. If it's soccer on, I'm watching it.
So I'm scared, dude. So I grew up now, you know, I grew up here in the Bay Area and Growing up, my favorite team—we used to watch a show called Soccer Made in Germany. That was a show on Channel Nine every Saturday, and it was with an announcer named Toby Charles, and they would broadcast a bunch of German games, first division. And my favorite team was Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Those were my two favorite teams growing up as a kid. So. I guess. And right now they're still dominant, aren't they?
They are. And right now we've set a brand new record. It only took us 7 minutes to bore the hell out of everybody who's been watching. Uh, once you start talking German soccer—
That's absolutely not true. Tiffany, um, is a sports fan. Um, and Mimi says hi to you.
Oh, hello, baby. Hey, listen, and Brian's here. Look at that.
Hello. Hello.
Bryan was getting a massage right before he went on the air. So
I got a massage, I got my hair done, I had nails done, I had toes done. I did everything that was not social distanced.
Perfect.
I know I'm feeling better about myself.
As you can tell, I have like a new location. I'm at a— I'm at an undisclosed location because we changed it, which is, which is great. How about it? It's got an old-school look, doesn't it? Don't I look like I'm like, you know, in one of the speakeasies?
Yeah, and I like that little poster behind you, the one with all the tie looks like a bunch of different bow ties of some kind there.
Yeah, so I'm
just wearing roller skates.
Dude, dude, I I have never done anything that involves propulsion on my feet. I mean, I'll run, but the whole skating, skiing, all of that stuff, no, no. And now, as I we have a trampoline in the backyard, and Brian knows this, my kids will go. Years ago, they're like, hey, can we, uh, why don't you come jump in the trampoline with us, Dad? And, and I have to have that conversation with them, like, baby, Daddy don't fall no more. Even in the trampoline, Daddy don't fall. We, we don't play that game. So what you're waiting for is for Uncle Bryan to come over, and Uncle Bryan will still fall.
So, Bryan, how's your insurance? Oh, hey, turn your mic on.
How's my insurance?
Yes, thank you.
Uh, well, do I? It's, it's an— I don't know. I just don't know. Can I go, uh, can I phone a friend?
Feel free. Do you— are— hey, do you have— I know, um, Gary, hold up your drink there for a minute. And Bryan, do you have yours today?
I do, I do. My wife made me a martini, as, as, as a— she is a great wife, so I love her, love her for that.
Now, like I said, I usually make my own martinis, but my friend Maurice who puts me to shame when it comes to martinis. This is a next-level martini I'm having today.
Yes.
Where are you at, Gary?
I am at the lovely confines, and we're socially distancing here at the Grandview Restaurant, uh, and they're also our, our sponsor tonight. Looking for butcher boxes? They're selling the meat, and you can get the meat and the pasta boxes at the Grandview. Just go to grandviewsan jose.com. And also they have the wine, uh, the wine bottles.
How did you do that? That's amazing. You said Grandview, San Jose, and all of a sudden it just popped up all at the same time. That's amazing.
You can't see it. I keep my left hand hidden, but that's where I wear the Thanos Rings of Power, uh, from the Avengers, so I can wipe out half the population of the universe, or I can make things appear on my— on the screen, which
is— I wear my glove, my Thanos glove.
Hey, I, I have to say real quick, uh, an old fraternity brother of mine, David Infinger, or as we call him, Finger. Hey Finger, how are you, man? Never participate in any sport that requires the attachments of lumber or wheels to my feet. See, he's right there with me.
God,
you know what, anytime gloves come out, it's a good time to bring the talent on.
You think so?
I know so.
Okay, hold on. I'm gonna put on some— I'm gonna put on my— no, I'll put these on after. Go ahead.
So I, I reached out to this guy because I have known him now for a couple of years, and when I said, hey guys, what if we ask— what if we ask Ryan Scripps to join us? And the first thing Rafi said is, you know Ryan Scripps? I know Ryan Scripps. And I'm like, how do you know Ryan Scripps? Ryan, how does Rafi know you?
What's going on, guys? So funny story with, with Rafi. My, uh, my wife worked with him years ago back at the Mountain Winery. And, uh, when we were, when we were getting married last year, we had— she knew Rafi as a DJ. So we were like, yeah, let's get Rafi to DJ our wedding. And, and then, uh, I was on the phone with Bryan last week or 2 weeks ago talking about this, and he's like, yeah, my buddy Rafi's gonna be on there too. And I'm like, what's his company called? He's like, Sound in Motion. And I was like, dude, that guy was our DJ at our wedding.
Dude, it was awesome. Hey, Ryan, who was it that sent you the video message? Remember I played it? Was it Jason Aldean who played that? Was it a— remember there
was— Yeah, it was Brad Paisley.
Brad Paisley. Ah,
yeah, yeah, that was pretty awesome.
So what happened was, guys, um, so right— was it right before your first dance or right around there, or cake or something like that? We had a surprise, uh, message from Brad Paisley, and, uh, dude, he was talking you up. It was real cool of him. So
yeah, that was, that was amazing. And courtesy of, uh, Nate Deaton and my, my mom hooking that up. It was a surprise to us, so it was pretty cool.
Yeah.
Ryan, you— I just want to make sure you get a proper introduction here because you were Uh, you were on The Voice, and, uh, and you've not only been on The Voice, you've done, uh, your— I mean, my wife and I were listening to you on Spotify the other night. I didn't tell her who I was listening to, and she's like, she thought that you were, uh, an, uh, uh, I think it was Luke Bryan. And, and she, she's like, she's like, God, I love Luke. And I said, that's not— that's Ryan Scripps. He's going to be on Friday night. And she goes, I can't say it, I guess we're a family show. So, um, so, so she was pretty amazed. And so, uh, I'd love to make— just make you got the proper introduction because you're, uh, you're, you're a— you got an amazing voice. I've been listening to you all week and I'm now all Ryan script scripts out.
Yeah, thanks, man. I appreciate that.
Oh, Ryan, look at you.
Look at, look at Kramer spreading the scripture.
See what they did there?
You see what I did there? I did it. I went there and I'm happy about it. We have to show you how well— because again, I've known— we've had, we've had Ryan, uh, open shows for us at Club Rodeo. We've been big fans of Ryan. I've had him on the air with me and played his songs, and you need to hear this guy sing. So why don't we get started right now? And Ryan, could you sing a song for us?
I can do that. Yeah, let's, uh, how about we start out with some George Strait?
Woo!
All right, let's do it. For all you George Strait fans out there, wherever you're at, in your living room, Sing along with me, come on. It started way back in 3rd grade. Now you sit beside a blue haze. A pink dress, matching bow, and a ponytail. She kissed me on the school bus, now I'm in a film. Next day I chased her around the playground and crossed the monkey bars and the merry-go-round. And Nimble Lou got time to pass me a note before the teacher took it. I read what she wrote. Do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? And if you do, well then don't be— Quiet! Free to take me by the hand if you want to. I think this is how love goes, check yes or no. Now we're grown up and she's my wife, still like 2 kids, stars in our eyes. Ain't much changed, I still chase in the loo. Up and down the hallway, the bed in our room. Last night I took her out in a white limousine. 20 years and good, and she still don't get to me. I can't believe it's been that long ago when we got started with just a little known, do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? And if you do, well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand. If you want to, I think this is how love goes. Check yes or no. Oh, do you love me? Do you wanna be my friend? If you do, well then don't be afraid to take me by the hand. If you want to, I think this is how love goes. Check yes or no. Check yes or no. You say yes or no.
Little King George on your Friday afternoon. How about that for you? You ain't never gonna lose a friend if you start off with George Strait on, on the social, social happy hour.
Uh, I figure it might be a good start. I always love starting out with George Strait.
Well, as, as somebody mentioned, uh, you're talking about having Brad Paisley on your thing. You do, you do look a bit like Brad Paisley, especially with the, uh With a baseball hat, which if you know Brad Paisley, that's what you usually find him in. He's rarely in a cowboy hat except to perform. Otherwise—
Yeah, he was in, uh, I think he was in a Dodgers hat when, uh, he did the video for our wedding.
Yeah, he looks— he's—
was he wearing a Dodgers hat?
Yeah, I know, right? That was the only bad part of the video.
Wow, what's up with that?
I'll bring that up with him because he and I have this running joke that every time that we start talking, we end up in a fight. So that, that'll be the next thing for us to fight about.
Yeah, I think he's been a Dodgers fan for a long time, right? Since he was like a, a little kid, I think.
Yeah, growing up in West Virginia, that makes you a Dodgers fan,
right?
What a mess.
Yeah.
Hey, um, Garrett, we got to say hi to some people who are, uh, jumping in. And let me get my glasses on because I can't see. My friend Gene Sassville, who is AKA Hoss. in high school. We went to Monte Vista together. Um, I think Gene lives— let's see, if I lived up somewhere in Northern California— where are you now, Gene? You moved or something, I thought. Uh, E. Brian Rose, Chris Libera. Chris, if I remember, did Chris have a birthday or something today?
I think he said it's his birthday today.
Happy birthday, Chris. Um, and then Sharon Lynn, uh, is it Spilker Scripts? Sharon Lynn.
Oh, that's my mom.
Hey, Mom! No wonder she's so proud of this guy, end quote. Here, look at that. Awesome.
I thought we, we could ask some stuff because we love interacting with you guys. We love, uh, chatting with you. And, and that's the thing that me and Brian and Rafi were sitting there talking this week. Well, we want to, we want to talk to you guys more and have you respond more on that. And so we thought we would ask you a couple of things. And first of all, I'll just start it off with Ryan and Brian and Rafi. Of what, what are you, what have you found out? I asked this on my Facebook page. What have you surprised yourself with, or your spouse? What's, what's been a surprising fact you've either learned about yourself or your spouse? And Ryan, we'll give you a second to think about it because Bryan's ready with an answer. Bryan, what surprised you?
That's funny. I gotta learn to not shake my head. Um, so, uh, what surprised me about, uh, about being, um, here at home, uh, with this whole thing— is that right?
Yep.
You know what surprised me the most is that I needed to slow the heck down. Um, I didn't know how much I needed to slow down, and, um, I was going so fast. I was going a mile a minute trying to accomplish things and do things and, and be everywhere and And, you know, and, and as you guys know, I'm— when we are on planes, I'm on planes all the time. I'm traveling everywhere, and I am loving this. I mean, I'm not loving what's happening to a lot of people, but I do love the, the pace of how slow it got. Um, and that's just like— that's been the biggest surprise for me. It's just the slowdown and the pause. I, I'm really enjoying that. And, um, yeah, so that, that, that's it for me. How about you guys?
Rafi, what's been a surprise about you or your spouse or your family?
You know, I too, like Bryan, I think, you know, you realize that you're always going about 1,000 miles an hour all the time. And this slowdown, it kind of makes you look at the world a little differently. It also, you know, you just— the way you look at things is just a little different, you know what I mean? I'm enjoying spending time with my, with my family a lot, you know, with, with kids. And, um, I'm walking every day, which I never thought in the world I'd be doing that all the time. Um, and just catching up with a lot of people I never get to see, I mean, or talk to, I should say, which is, which has been, uh, which has been awesome. So—
I, I love Lynn Johnson's answer. She goes, uh, what surprised me is the amount of time He loves to really caress the TV clicker. OMG.
Oh, oh, oh God. Hey, look what my— Gary, look what my wife wrote there at the bottom. Oh my God, he's not a very good home teacher. No, I'm actually not.
Yeah, and I think all our wives are commenting right now. It's because mine just said arts and crafts, and, uh, she's right. I'm— I took up diamond painting. I can't believe I just said that out loud. I don't want to talk about it ever again.
Diamond painting?
You were going to leave that out? Really? You're going to leave out the diamond painting? Ryan, what about you? Have you— you've been having any, uh, what have you learned? Has it been a surprise about you or your beautiful new bride?
So yeah, it's actually funny that this all happened during this time because we're actually moving next weekend. So I've had You know, all this free time to move our stuff into our new place. So it's it it comes at you know I don't want to say a good time, but kind of a good time if you want to if if you're moving, you know because I have all this free time. The first two days I took full advantage of this this this lockdown. I didn't do anything for the first couple days. I was you know watching TV, watching Netflix. But after that, I got like, I got right to the moving. Went to Home Depot, grabbed a ton of cardboard boxes, started throwing everything together, got a storage unit. Thankfully, the storage, the storage unit places are still open. So I've been, I've just been busy with that, honestly.
That's awesome. That is awesome. You know, I gotta add one thing. There's one thing that most people don't know. Um, after each and one of each and each— let me, let me see if I can say this again. After each— He does not drink. 5 times fast, forget about it. After each and every show, Gary, you know what he does? He goes home and he puts his foot in a big tub of baby powder. That is one of our sponsors for today. Gary loves Tuggaboos baby powder for his feet, a proud sponsor of the show. Carry on, Gary.
It's my tootsies. Uh,
Gary, how about you? What, what, what's yours?
Uh, you know, I— one of the things I, I, I'm the opposite of you, Bryan. I'm surprised by how busy I am, uh, where, where I've literally kicked it up into a different gear of, of being busy, and, and I needed to. And so it was a wonderful excuse for me to pick it up. The other thing is I've enjoyed, and I've said this before, I love getting to know my kids, but I think the biggest gift is having my kids get to know me. Because most of us don't realize who our parents are until their 20s or 30s. We've said that before. I think my kids will come out of this having a better idea of who the old man is. You know, that they'll know him, they'll know me, and when they get to tell their kids, they'll go, Yeah, I spent a spring and summer with the old man locked in the house, and he was an interesting character, let me tell you that. So that's been for me. So yeah, we'd love to see your answers so we can enjoy what— for you folks who'll join us, tell us what you're— what surprised about yourself or your family. We'd love to hear that. Okay. Should we have Ryan sing another song? Because I really enjoyed the George Strait. And Ryan, I see you have one of my all-time favorite songs. I am so glad you picked this song. I'm not even lying. This is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Well, you can thank The Voice for that, because they chose this song for me when I performed it on The Voice. So, but it's, you know, I obviously knew the song before. I mean, I'd heard of it plenty of times. And it's a great song, but I actually didn't get to choose my songs when I was on The Voice. They chose the songs for the artists, which was kind of wild, but it worked out with this one. This is a great song.
This is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Look them up, kids. They started off by being famous for singing Mr. Bojangles, and then they became a really famous country act who had a slew of hits in the late '80s and through the '90s. And this to me is one of their favorite. It's called Fishing in the Dark.
Yeah. All right, let's do it. Lazy yellow moon coming up tonight, shining through the trees. Crickets are singing and lightning bugs are floating on the breeze. Baby, get ready. Across the field where the creek turns back by the old stone road. I'm gonna take you to a special place that nobody knows. Baby, get ready. Ooh, ooh, you and me going fishing in the dark, lying on our backs and counting the stars. Where the cool grass grows. Down by the river in full moonlight, we'll be falling in love in the middle of the night, just moving slow. Stayin' the whole night through, it feels so good to be with you. All right. It don't matter if we sit forever and the fish don't bite. Jump in the river and cool ourselves in the heat of the night. Baby, get ready. Ooh, ooh. You and me going fishing in the dark. Lying on our backs and counting the stars. Where the cool grass grows. Down by the river in the full moonlight, we'll be falling in love in the middle of the night, just a little bit so. Staying the whole night through, it feels so good to be with you and me going through Dancing in the dark, lying on the fence, and found the stars where the cool grass grows. Down by the river in a full moonlight, we'll be falling in love in the middle of the night, just moving slow. Stayin' up all night through. It feels so good to be with you and me going fishing in the dark. All right.
See that? See why that's one of my favorite songs? That's just a fun song. I don't care where you are. I don't care who you are. I don't even care if you like country music or not. That's—
I love playing that song. When, uh, when my, my full band learned that song a couple years ago after I was on The Voice, it's a, it's a huge crowd pleaser. I mean, everybody Everybody gets crazy in the bars when we play that song, so it's a fun one.
You brought up a great point that you don't get to choose the songs on The Voice, or when you were on, you didn't get to choose the songs. Did you find that that helped you grow as an artist?
Yeah, for sure, definitely. So, so what happened was, is, I mean, they, they give us like a list of probably, you know, 1,000 to 2,000 songs, and we pick our favorite songs out of that list. You can imagine how long that took to go through 1,000, 2,000 songs of all different genres. So out of that list, you know, there was Body Like a Backroad was on there, which was what I sung for my blind audition. Fishing in the Dark was on there. Even though I didn't know those songs, they weren't, you know, those wouldn't be at the time, they wouldn't be at the top of my list for songs to perform, but I knew of them. So I had a better chance Learning those and learning something that, you know, I'd never heard before or just, yeah, something I'm not familiar with. So out of the list that we choose from their list, they then choose the song from there. So, you know, I have sort of an idea from a list of songs that I choose what they're gonna pick. But yeah, I don't— ultimately, I don't get to choose my own song.
What did you take away from that whole experience? If you had to boil it down to, to like the essence of something that you just like, you're walking, you walked out of there a better person for it. What was that thing?
I think, I think just be yourself, like be your authentic self. You know, that whole experience was so much fun for me. And like one of the, one of the amazing parts about it was being able to, you know, create these friendships, these, these lasting friendships with all the other contestants. And, but just getting up on stage and, you know, I forgot that it was a contest. When I was up there playing— Wow. These songs in front of the judges, in front of the crowd, I don't think of it as a contest, you know. Just be yourself, be authentic. And that's kind of what I think about now when I get up on stage for every show, no matter if it's a show in front of, you know, 10 people or if it's a show in front of 1,000 people. So I think that was probably— go ahead.
Sorry, I was just gonna ask a question. What was the song that you sang to try out for the show? My wife Karen is asking. What was, what was the song you used when you tried out?
Are you talking about for the blind auditions or like before?
Yes, yes, for the blind auditions, yes.
So that was Body Like a Back Road by Sam Hunt. Which honestly, That would have never been, you know, a song that I would have chose for, for my blind audition, but it ended up working out.
Wow. Wow.
It's got one of my favorite lines. I don't need no help. That's a great line.
Yeah,
he's talking about how he knows her body like a back row. Not, do you need it? I don't need no help.
Go ahead. Oh, I was just gonna say, um, I just wanted to do a few shoutouts, guys, real quick, because we've got people everywhere, um, tuning in, tuning in from all over the world. Um, well, all over the world, uh, Bill in Sunnyvale, that's— I guess that's kind of far. And Gene out in, um, Grass Valley. And Carolyn in, in, um, Studio City. Big deal. Um, not really. Um, I'm joking. Um,
My, my friend, my friend in Fingers all the way down in Florida. So Fingers, and there you go. Yeah,
and we're all the way over in Australia too.
Yeah, what's her name? Um, shoot, her name— Leanne Isaacson. Yes. Yeah. And, um, so it's awesome, and it's just, it's really cool. Every week we're just seeing somebody else. And then, uh, David Fish— is it David Fishette? Who's David?
Yeah, David is extraordinary. He, uh, we work with him. In fact, Heather works with him, uh, Gary's wife. And, uh, he is an event productions company, obviously, uh, a little bit, I would imagine, hit right now. But, uh, they have helped us produce some incredible events. Uh, same thing with Heather, I know, uh, after talking. And, and he is, uh, he's an experiential guy, but he also knows a lot of people Uh, and puts on these dinners, and they're in-the-dark kind of dinners in cities. And you can go in and experience in-the-dark dinners and have like, uh, the— it's like animated and it's like Tron dinners, like, like very, very interesting dinner. So, um, yeah, that's David.
Nice, very, very cool. Look at this. Um, let's see, Tiffany's of course here in town. Well, Glenn, um, Jeanette, and, and then Marlene up in Manteca. And someone named Diane Smith is saying hi to you, Ryan. I don't know, you probably can't see that. Michael Kane out in Gilroy. Detroit, Michigan in the house. Jennifer Comar Manzo, is that one of your friends?
Michael Kane, that's my guys. I know Diane McCain.
Nice, nice.
Diane and Michael Kane. Yeah, yeah, I know them. What's up, guys?
Irene Strosas, who's, uh, representing the Oaktown. Oakland, Oakland in the house. Happy to have you, Irene.
And there's got to be Willow Glen in there. Yeah, Tiffany. And what about Florala, Alabama? That's got to be one of your peeps.
Where do you think I'm from? I am from Alabama. That is my friend Newton Peters, whose son just signed with the Naval Academy to play quarterback. I am so proud. His son is an amazing athlete. All 3 of his sons— his sons are just amazing athletes and And his, his oldest is, is, uh, is just something special. He's something special. So go Navy! Go Navy!
And how about a quick, quick shout out to Tracy in Campbell in the old 95008? Um, so thanks for being here. And, uh, gosh, there's just— this is all—
there's a few more. There's, there's Oregon. Hope, Hope Frank-Nicholson from Oregon and John— Jan Hawthorne from Jasper, Tennessee.
Nice. Paul Chapman visiting from the 95125.
Yeah, I'm thinking we gotta hit some music, guys.
Like, isn't this show about the people though too? Please,
it's about everything.
It is. And he's done us a couple of COVID songs, but listen, Ryan also does his own music. He, he had his WAP, Everything, Everything But Her. That came out. You can find it at his website. But you have some original songs, and I was wondering if you would throw one down for us, would you, Ryan?
Absolutely. And Rafi, you heard this one the very first time I ever played it. So I wrote this song for my wife for our wedding day, and Rafi heard my voice crack like it never cracked before, and Heard me fumble, fumble the lyrics around like I've never done before.
Yeah, but you know what? You know what the best part of it was, um, Ryan? I didn't know the words in the first place, so you could have changed them on me. I would have never known anyway. So you nailed it. I would have never known. Nice work.
Yeah, well, hopefully I don't have to do that this time where I got to rewrite it mid-song, but we'll see. But, uh, yeah, so this Yeah, so this is obviously a special song to my wife and I. It's, uh, obviously I wrote it for her for our wedding day. We got married December 1st, 2018. So it's called Forever. So it goes like this. Forever. Finding the right time to say what's on my mind. I've probably already given it away by now. 4, 3, 2, 1. I've been counting down the days till now. Yes, let me break it down. First time I saw that smile on you, had me acting like a fool. Don't know how I got away, got away with you. The way you always bring out the best in me. I'll always love you for eternity. I thank the Lord every single day for your amazing grace. That's why I'm down here on one knee. Let's take on this world together and make this forever. When you feel like falling, I'll be right there to lift you up. And those blue eyes, they get me high. I love the sound of you're all mine, 'cause first time I saw that smile on you had me acting like a fool. Don't know how I got away and got away with you. The way you always bring out the best in me. I'll always love you for eternity. I thank the Lord every single day. For your amazing grace, that's why I got down on one knee. Let's say gonna swirl together, may this forever. Yeah, yeah, whoa, whoa, yeah, baby. Now everybody is here, lots of shedding tears. This is where we say I do. Baby, I love you too. First time I saw that smile on you, had me acting like a fool. Don't know how I got away, got away with you. The way you always bring out the best in me. I'll always love you for eternity. I thank the Lord every single day for your amazing grace. Fast forward 50 years from now, we'll look back on this moment together and all these memories will last. Forever. Yeah, forever. Yeah, yeah.
So whenever she gets mad at you, you just whip that out, right? I mean, that's, that's, that's what you do. You got the get-out-of-jail-free card, which is, which is awesome. That's how I do it.
Oh, what is that?
Everything right there.
That's just—
what do you got
there,
Ryan? Look closely.
I love it. That is a picture of our wedding, if you guys can see it. Yeah, so we, we, uh, we got married at this amazing venue in the Santa Cruz Mountains called Nestledown, and it was spectacular. It was amazing how to get married in that, uh, in that environment with all the redwood trees surrounding us and stuff. And so that was really cool.
Yeah, that was— it is one of the most amazing venues in the area. Um, I mean, as far as just an unbelievable backdrop for you, so An amazing wedding day. So very, very nice, dude. We are getting so many, so many thumbs up. Sean Hornbeak, love this song, says right here. Um,
all right, thanks, man.
Yep. Wow, awesome lyrics. Um, this is an amazing romantic love song. Thank you, Courtney. Um, Jackie Davis says great voice. Tammy,
that's my man up in Washington.
Nice,
nice. Thank you guys for the comments. I'm trying to— I think I could see your comments popping up here, some of them, but I appreciate all the, all the positive feedback, guys. It's awesome.
And, and hey, Hope, we know you'd like for this to be a Ryan Scripps concert for us all to show up. Shut up, we get it, we get it. But, but before though, because we, we wanted to, we wanted to ask you a some questions because we enjoy getting your answers from the last time. And I want to know, once this is over, once this is over and you can get out and you're past the fear and all the other stuff, we just see how Raffi's gonna celebrate, and I think that's everything we need to know about him. But how are you planning on celebrating when this is over? So Ryan, what, what do you think you and your lovely bride will do to celebrate? How are you gonna— because you're moving to a new place, that's fun. But how are you going to celebrate?
Oh man, I'm gonna— well, we have, uh, I don't even know if this show is canceled, but we have tickets to the Rascal Flatts show that's coming up at Shoreline. And, uh, I'm sure that's probably going to be canceled, but, uh, I'm going to take her out to a nice dinner. That's probably going to be the first thing I do is book a nice reservation somewhere. Can I tell you, I also—
I recommend the Grandview. That's what I recommend.
Yeah, I've never been there, but I've heard tons of positive feedback on that place, so that'd be really cool to get out there.
Looking for a romantic dinner with great food and a beautiful view? Right here.
And they deliver now too, so you want to get the meat sent to you, they send that to you, right?
They do the Butcher Box, and they do the— they have the Grandma's Pasta that's literally from Sicily, the pasta and the sauce. And they all have the Grandview wine, which I believe right now for a limited time, it's 50% off. So if you're going to jump in on that, jump in. Uh,
my wife just bought it right now, right when you said that. She just jumped on it. It didn't take her 30 seconds.
She's in.
All right,
you know what, Ryan? Well, Ryan will also get, um, Gary to drive you there. How about that? And he can be your maître d' and, and serve you the food. How about that?
Did you say Ryan or Bryan?
Perfect, man.
Listen, I'm saying Ryan. I'm saying Ryan. That Gary will be the maître d' and your limo driver, the whole thing, whatever you need.
I hardly recommend it.
Let's do it, man.
I hardly recommend it.
That way we can both drink and I don't have to drive.
That's it. Well, Kramer, you know, it's so hard for me to call you Brian because when we're not on this show, Brian is simply Focker to me, not the other word, F-O-C-K-E-R. So folks, I'm going to call him Focker and you have to know that that's what I'm saying. That's a term of endearment amongst his friends. So, Focker, how are you going to celebrate when this is all over?
I like how you call me my last name of my fake name, not Gaylord. You go to the last name of the fake name.
You are Focker.
I'm gonna— I, you know, I actually just miss being around, being in a bar, like, and doing like Like, I think I might just go be— enjoy being around, like, in karaoke and just, just chilling and being around people and singing and acting, kind of just whatever. And, and, and you know this about me, but I just— I love that. That's my place, like, where people can just be people and we can all be amongst people. And I feel like I'm gonna sing a Barbra Streisand song. I don't know why, but, uh, People Who Love People. But You know, I don't. I that's that's important. And then if I'm looking at travel, then Puerto Vallarta, baby. I'm on my way. I'm on
an airplane and I'm getting Barcelona, Tampa, and P.
Right now, any day, like a vacation
would be nice. Yeah.
Isn't that weird? We all need a vacation from this crap.
Well, I don't think I don't think there will be a more important vacation we ever take. Then the first one we get to take after this. I don't think there's a more important vacation.
Uh, you know, can we give, can we give a shout out to, um, Puerto Vallarta Barcelona Tapas? Um, one of our favorite restaurants there. Um, yeah, our friends Paul and Gail Chapman, we go there with them and it's— that's, that's the go-to for dinner down there. Absolutely phenomenal. But, uh, what's that, Gary?
I said, is that what you're gonna do? Uh, you and your— oh, you know what?
Our our favorite place to go is probably Roy's and Carmel in Pebble Beach, which is just amazing. The view just phenomenal. Love it there, and great food, and just love it down there. That that that would be it for me.
So we want to know what you guys are going to do. What or what are you if you're watching with us? No matter where you are, I don't care if it's Australia or Detroit or Florida or wherever. What are you planning on doing? Turlough, what do you plan on doing when this is all over? How are you going to celebrate? We would love to share some of your answers right here on the Social Distance Happy Hour.
Gary, what about you?
You know, I'm not just saying this. We're— we have been talking about that when this is over, we want to come up here to the Grandview, which is one of our favorite restaurants. And I have a 10-year-old son who's discovered a love for steak, and usually this is a date night night, but he told us when we got here today, he goes, when you come, I'm coming too. And I'm like, okay, well, I can't put my moves on your mother then, so that's kind of tough. But still, uh, so it's one of the things we're going to do. And we, we love Cabo San Lucas. Where you go to Puerto Vallarta, we love Cabo San Lucas, and we can't wait to make it back down there. So that's awesome.
Amazing. That sounds amazing. Speaking of places we can't go— oh yeah, go, go for it.
Is, uh, I was just gonna say I can't wait to play a freaking show. I mean, it's, it, it's been so long now. I think the last show that, that I played was, uh, very beginning of March, which feels like an entire year ago. So I can't wait to get back out there and play some shows.
Yep. Gosh, you're not kidding, dude. Not being able to DJ, it's the Same thing. I've been parked since whatever it was. Yeah, just go. I'm so going crazy. So going—
I like your backdrop, by the way, man. Your back—
It's kind of hot, isn't it? Isn't that cool?
I'm digging it.
You like that?
I gotta get that behind my guitars back here.
We can talk after the show.
Well, we, uh, I saw some of the answers. Uh, Sally's gonna go to Disneyland, and everybody's going to the bar concert. Trevor said that. Yeah, and that's gonna happen. And this is just me. I don't know anything of nobody else. But I still think this is gonna happen sooner than we think. Because we got to remember that we went into this and it was one day we're okay, and one day we're gone, right? Your kids were in school one day, and then the next day they weren't. And I think the same thing, once we start seeing things happen. I think we're going to go up in chunks. I don't think it's going to be like this with everything. I think there's going to be things that go just like that, and we'll get there. I'm not saying we're going to have a sold-out show at Shoreline on June 26th. I'm not saying that. But I do honestly believe that we will get back quicker than we think we will, whenever that may be. And, uh, I just saw my buddy down in Florida said they're going to go to Natural Bridge, which is where our favorite swimming hole is. So I miss Natural Bridge. Newton, have fun and take some watermelon to throw in the water to get it nice and cold before you cut it.
Oh geez.
Hey, um, hey guys, I hate to break this party up, but people do want music. I know you guys like to talk, but, uh, I want to make sure Ryan gets some, gets some airtime. That's what we're here to do, you know what I mean?
All good, man. This is, this is happy hour. Cheers, you guys. If you're tuning in, thank you guys for hanging out. Thank these, uh, thank these gentlemen for having me on. I appreciate it. By the way, I'm drinking a beer, a beer from Humble Sea in Santa Cruz, and this beer, I just, I just got it the other day, and it's called SpongeFog SquarePants.
It's a nice hazy. It looks like a beautiful hazy IPA, and that's my jam. I love hazies. Love them.
Yeah, same here.
Well, let's do a song so Bryan doesn't yell at me.
Let's do it. All right. If anybody's drinking some whiskey out there tonight, I'm gonna play a song about a little bit of whiskey. This is a pretty popular song at the moment. It's by a newer artist named Morgan Wallen. So here we go. If you guys know this, help me sing it. Let's go. Pull me. Pour me another drink. I don't wanna feel a thing no more, hell nah. 'Cause I just wanna sip it till the pain wears off. Pour me, pour me another round. Line 'em up and knock 'em down. 2 more, let's go. I ain't never hurt like this before. Don't wanna think about her. Oh, where am I without her? Don't wanna hit the karaoke bar, can't sing without her. So make them drinks strong, 'cause brother, she's gone. And if I'm ever gonna move on, I'mma need some whiskey glasses, 'cause I don't wanna see the truth. She's probably making out on a couch right now with someone new, 'cause I'mma need some whiskey glasses. If I'm gonna make it through, if I'mma be single, I'mma need a double shot of that heartbreak brew. See the world through whiskey glasses, nothing to do, sipping on the truth. See the world through whiskey glasses. Last call, I swear this will be my last call. Now I ain't drunk dialing no more at 3 AM. Mr. Bartender, hit me again. Don't wanna think about her or where I went without her. Don't wanna hit the karaoke bar, can't sing without her. So make them drinks strong, 'cause brother, she's gone. If and when I'm gonna move on, I'm gonna need some whiskey glasses, 'cause I don't wanna see the truth. She's probably making out on a couch right now with someone new. 'Cause I'm gonna need some whiskey glasses if I'm gonna make it through. If I'm gonna be single, I'm gonna need a double shot of that heartbreak brew. See the world through whiskey glasses, sipping on the truth. See the world through itchy glasses. All right, y'all sing this with me here. Here we go. Line them up, line them up, line them up, line them up. Knock them back, knock them back, knock them back, knock them back. Feel them up, feel them up, feel them up, feel them up. If she ain't never coming back. One more time. Line them up, line them up, line them up, line them up. Knock them back, knock them back, knock them back, knock them back. Feel them up, feel them up. Gonna fill 'em up. If she ain't never coming back, I'm gonna need some whiskey glasses, 'cause I don't wanna see the truth. She's probably hanging out on the couch right now with someone new. 'Cause I'm gonna need some whiskey glasses if I'm gonna make it through. If I'mma be single, I'mma need a double shot of that heartbreak brew. See the world through whiskey glasses. That's what we do, sipping on the truth. See the world through whiskey glasses. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, seeing some of those whiskey glasses emojis coming to the picture.
You like that? You inspired me. I found me a hazy IPA right here. You and— oh,
there you go.
Yeah, that worked out well there. And, uh, what was it? Somebody just told me they had some Jameson. They were, they were, uh, throwing down a Jameson while they were doing that.
Yeah, that was my buddy Gene Sassville. I would expect nothing less from Hoss. He would do that. Um, hey, how about a couple, uh, shout outs to some people? Um, Lynn enjoying the music. Um, Karen, I love this. Uh, fun way to wrap up the week. Thank you from Hope. Um, Tiffany, thank you. Um, one of my favorites, says Brooke Marie. So, uh, very nice work, Ryan. People digging it.
Right on. Having a good time.
Yeah. Also, we have, um, a friend listening, uh, Christy. She was— she used to live in Minnesota. Now she lives, I think, once state down, um, I think. I can't remember, but she's in the Midwest, originally a Fresno girl. And, uh, Denise, uh, down in Los Angeles. Man, just all over, all over the country, all over the world. I love this. Absolutely love it.
It's true. I'm sorry, folks, if you live in California or New York, then the rest of the country is one state down or two states over. We don't, we don't know. We don't know who you are, where you're at.
Close enough. What is this? Hey, what is the state right below Minnesota? Uh, is it—
I think it's Arizona.
Isn't it? Nor— is it North Dakota? Gosh, here I go. Is it North Dakota?
Look, your wife said, told you he wasn't a great home teacher. No. Well, at least I know it is above North Minnesota.
So it's Iowa. But Jennifer's— Jennifer, thank you, Jennifer. Um, Iowa. I want to say, where is it? Am I way off, or am I a state off by this?
I, I'm, I'm wondering where we're going with this.
I don't know. You're talking to me. I drive everywhere. I don't care. I just, I go where I go. My mouth just opens and I start blabbing. It doesn't really matter where it goes. Just, just run with it.
We are, we are, we are very—
My entire career, just work with me. Just, just Go with it.
That's what, that's what drives me crazy, you know, Brian. The guys with the best hair are both wearing hats, and you and I, you and I are rocking this. Hey, what are you saying? I'm saying the guy with the— both of them with the best hair are rocking hats, and here's you and I being proud and loud, baby.
Hey, this is the long—
I love how I got roped into that.
In years. Like, I could barely put a hat on. I gotta like squish my hat down to get over the thick head of hair.
Wow, dude, you got a mane.
Yeah, he does. My wife said she was going to cut my hair with hedge trimmers tomorrow, and I'm like, I, I don't care.
I mean, okay.
Yeah,
I just did mine this morning. I just go like this. And then I'm done. I know it's like, it's not formulaic. There's no like— but you know, when you're, you're born with a Jewfro, you just go for it. You just, you go like this and you just— and then you're like, you're done. You don't have to, you don't have to think about it.
Dude, you should see me.
Did you just say what I think you just said?
He can say a Jewfro. He has one. Uh,
I have one. I'm— but
you're Jewish.
I have a—
people know you're Jewish. I don't want people to leave our show going, look at that racist son of a— I have never heard that term in my life.
Oh really? That's a thing amongst my people. That might— if you ask any Jewish person, they will tell you that we all have Jewfros. And that's the thing, like, you're— God willing, it grows because it just goes up.
It doesn't go out. One of our— come on, have you not seen Kramer?
It just goes like that. Hold on, hold on. Jewish friends who are watching right now, I want to know, have you heard that?
Yes,
I hope you did, because it's the truth.
Listen, do you know who had the ultimate Jewfro? Art Garfunkel. He started the whole trend, uh, and Art, Art, and it was amazing. And I think he even called it that, which was what was remarkable about it. I now, I just have, because again, again, there's the bald spots that you can't see, which is why I'm in a dark room. But my whole thing when I was a kid and I could blow dry it, I could have my hair was out to here. And my, my trick for the ladies is I could turn into my hair before it moved. It was awesome. I could do that.
I just learned something today. This is, this is
such awesome—
You really never knew about the Jew fro?
Huh?
Wow. Why do you think we wear yarmulkes? It's not for covering from God. It's to keep the hair down.
You are crossing every politically incorrect line, which is fine with me, but—
I, I used to use rubber bands and I would— it would hold my hair down. That's how you do it.
You know, we're going to change the name of this show to God Willing. That's what we're going to change it to. It's going to be God Willing. Join us on Fridays at 5, God Willing.
Well, I did an Instagram poll. I did an Instagram poll whether I should cut my hair or not, and everybody said to keep growing it out. So this is going strong right now, like 2 months.
You, you are my brother from another mother right now. I used to have that, but You'll get there.
It looks terrible up close. I'm just looking at that. It's— I need to put this hat back on.
I'm gonna send you a couple yarmulkes.
My wife is done, D-U-N, with my hair. She is done with it. So no, we're, we're over it.
You are. So hey, can we, before you do your last song, can we just say a couple, a couple more shoutouts really fast? Um, do you mind, Bryan, or am I gonna get in trouble for that too?
You've got 30 seconds, not 31. Go!
Golly, this is worse than being at school. Um, hey, how about it? Sue Heimgartner in New Zealand. Um, who else? Uh, Julie Scappazzi in, um, Lodi, she's, uh, listening. Zach Kimura, who's— yep, Zach Kimura, who is my next-door neighbor, is— I had no idea was a friend, a fan of Gary's. I no idea at all. I was surprised. Um, Bob Hazleton. Bob's, um, he's— that's my, uh, prison friend. Um, so Corcoran State Prison. Uh, and I think that's it.
You know what he went to prison for? Killing this show. That's what he went to prison for. So
I think he's on, uh, do you have an ankle bracelet, Rafi? I'm just curious.
Well, funny you should ask. I have, um, a puka shell necklace. See that?
Because I think— there you go— wearing ankle bracelets right now, like they're on—
no, no, no, court grants—
welcome to home arrest.
We, we get— we get—
we're all on home arrest.
See, look at this. Look at that beauty. Come on.
Hey, listen, back in the day, that was guaranteed action.
Well, there you go, Gary. Did you want to borrow
my puka shells? Yeah, yeah, that's it. I have, I have a picture of me in a green leisure suit with wonderful lapels and puka shells. I'm telling you, you laugh now, but back in the day, back in the day, you'd have wanted a piece of that. I'm just saying.
Yep. And, and let me just tell you, my Gucci sunglasses, these were the Knockoffs of the Varnays, by the way, if you remember those.
Hey guys, I have a sponsor. That's awesome.
What is that? Oh, that's the, um—
Shh, shh, breathe, breathe, breathe. Let's say goodbye.
What? Yeah, really.
Thank you all for the time.
It's
6:10.
What about Ryan? Can you do like a 30-second medley or something?
Or we could bring him back. We could bring him back and have him do more original songs and more things. What do you think?
Let's bring him back. Let's bring him back. Ryan, would you come back? Would you even come back? Did we just ruin this, or are you gonna come back?
I don't know. Those, those nunchucks or whatever you're holding up, Robbie, it's a little weird. Okay,
we got people saying one more song. One more. I want more.
All right, let's run.
Do you have a short song you can do? 2 and a half minutes?
Yeah, I can, uh, all right, yeah, you know what, I'll just cut this song short. I'll do like a verse, chorus, and I'll end it. Is that cool?
Beautiful.
Wow, uh, yeah, there's a stock ticker right now of I want more. So
yeah,
bring it, bring us home, Ryan, bring us home.
All right, and then, uh, and then next time if we do this again, I'll play the, I'll play the full version of the song, but I gotta say thank you just real quick. Thank you to Gary and Nate Deaton, Julie, Randy Jones, everybody at KRTY for spinning this song. This one's called U-Turn. You can find this on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube. Goes like this, shortened version. I got everything I need in the back of my Silverado. Say goodbye to everybody in this place. Said, when you coming back? I said, man, I don't know. Now I'm ready to roll, making my getaway. That's when your headlights came shining and you walked by. You pulled me in, you were so smart from the moment we met. I can't get you out of my head. I gotta make it. You turn me on, I can't let go. Baby, your eyes can't hide what they say to mine. I gotta make a U-turn. Me on, I'm so on fire. Baby, those lips don't lie. So I think I, I gotta make a U-turn. I gotta make a U-turn. You know.
Okay, that's how we're gonna start the show the next time. That right there. I want to thank my friends here at the Grandview San Jose. grandviewsan jose.com. Get your book, your boxes, and thank you so much.
Yeah, cheers everybody. Fantastic.
Cheers guys. Thank you for having me on. Thank you guys for watching.
Thanks, Ryan.
Ryan, you rock, man.
Thanks, everybody.
Have a good one.
