Tim Ferriss, Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins. All of these people are talking about one thing. Do you know what it is? Overwhelm. And why are all of these really important people talking about overwhelm? Well, because overwhelm is something that no one is immune to. There's no vaccination for overwhelm. There's big overwhelm. There's little overwhelm, But. But regardless of how old you are, where you live, what you do for a living, you're gonna experience overwhelm. And even big, huge names like Mel Robbins and Tim Ferriss experience overwhelm. Even giant actors like Chris Hemsworth and Lynda Carter, that one won in the Wayback Machine. But with this previous video with my whole superhero pose, I had to throw it in there. But they all experience overwhelm. Quite frankly, it's a part of being a human, and it doesn't have to be that bad. Don't believe me? All right, let's try this. Overwhelm, in its definition, is pretty paralyzing if you think about it. It's the inability to do anything else because you are overwhelmed by the current state of whatever it is that's going on in your brain. It doesn't just stop at your brain, though. It actually impacts your ent. Entire body, your entire nervous system, or at least it can. Remember we talked about big overwhelm versus little overwhelm. Sometimes overwhelm can be so overwhelming that you can't even get out of bed. Or at least your brain is telling you that you can't get out of bed, that you can't do anything else. You don't even know where to start. Which one of these have you ever experienced? I know for me, it's definitely been a long couple months where some days I wasn't even sure where to start. And that's where you get to be able to stop and take a breath and know that you just have this one moment. And in this one moment, what is it that you can do that will reduce that overwhelm just a little bit? And right now, if you're looking for an entire video on overwhelm, that one we did just a couple weeks ago, and it's right here. I'll also put it at the end of the video in case you want a couple more steps for overcoming overwhelm. I want to share with you the five things that you can do really, really quickly in order to stop overwhelm and start living your life all over again. Not from the beginning, no babies, but from right now. Because the truth is, when you're feeling overwhelmed, you can't really do much of anything. Or at least whatever you're doing, you're not able to focus on it with your hundred percent because your brain is in a state of mind of stress and fight or flight. And so here are my top five things I already cheated and shared with you. 1. Pick one thing. Just focus on one thing. And Ms. Queen, Mel Robbins herself is the master of this. She talks about counting down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and doing that one thing. Whether it's getting out of bed, whether it's making a grocery list, whether it's a phone call, just focus on one thing that you can do right now. And it can be super simple. Oftentimes, just being able to get that one thing started, your brain naturally falls into a healthy habit of being productive, and you go from overwhelm to productive pretty quickly. We're going to go to the second thing, but stick with me because there is a Walking Dead analogy coming up in this video, and I want to make sure that you let me know in the comments if I nailed it or not. I'm not exactly the biggest Walking Dead fan, so you can feel free to criticize me. This is an open invitation for that. But my second thing is gonna be limit the amount of time for your overwhelm. So when you are feeling overwhelmed, set a timer. I'm allowed to feel this way for a minute, for two minutes, for three minutes, until the end of the song, until I get home. Whatever it is, limit the amount of time so that overwhelm doesn't consume entire day. That's oftentimes the feeling when you come home and you're like, what did I actually get done today? By limiting the amount of time and giving yourself that permission to feel what you are feeling in the moment, you're reconnecting with your body and your mind and you're plugging those two things back in to be able to say, oh, I'm overwhelmed. And I'm not trying to resist it and I'm not trying to fight it. And then it flows and that feeling actually passes. And so whatever it is that your body's designed to react to with overwhelm of this is a message, I've got too much on my plate. The message is received and then the messenger can move on and you can get on with your life. So just give yourself that permission and limit the amount of time that you are spending in that state of overwhelm. Number three is how you're looking at things or perspective. So that looked different than me looking this way or this way or this way. Now I'm just kind of being a little silly with this, but perspective. I had a client I was working with just a couple weeks ago that was talking about how overwhelmed they were feeling. They were overwhelmed by their electricity bill. They were overwhelmed by their social engagements. They were overwhelmed because they had a massage appointment they had to get to. They needed to schedule their hair appointment. And while I'm exaggerating this a little bit, put it in perspective. You have a house and electricity. You have the funds to be able to get your hair done, get a massage. You have friends that want to spend time with you. So put it in perspective. You have these things that you've told yourself you have to get done today. Do you? You have put most of this stress on yourself. I know that's a truth bomb that you may or may not want to hear. Maybe it'll go down better with a little bit of coffee. And that perspective is really important because when you can put your life in perspective, if your big goal is to make a difference, you being overwhelmed right now, that's not helping in the grand scheme of things, that's not moving the needle on you making a difference. If the number one thing today is you getting to your child's soccer game at 7, you feeling overwhelmed right now is not going to prevent you from getting to that soccer game. Just make sure that's your priority and put it in perspective. If this month your one big goal is to hit 10,000, 20,000, $30,000 in revenue, is being overwhelmed actually helping move the needle towards your perspective? And when you wake up in the morning and you grab your phone and your email already is overwhelming you, you made the choice to check your email, put it in perspective. Don't let it ruin the rest of your day, and then go and do and make a difference. That's what you're here for, not to feel overwhelmed 24 7. So change that lens a little bit and get a little bit different perspective. I know you can do it. And you in reality, know that with a little bit of perspective, you can do it as well. So I've got two more for you. And we also have that Walking dead analogy coming up. So one is find yourself a cheerleader. Yay. Go you okay? Probably not me. And the cheerleader doesn't actually have to be a real cheerleader. It doesn't have to be the person that you would think of as a cheerleader. You can have a podcast that's an inspiration to you. You can have a YouTube channel, Power of purpose channel. Anyone that is inspiring. That keeps you going. That'. Motivating. That cheers you on. You can have a song. Find your cheerleader. I'm going to keep this one pretty simple. You know what motivates you, and so find your cheerleader. Let me know in the comments what your cheerleader is. And the last one that I have for you before that warning of my walking dead analogy is fill your cup. Hmm, that one sounds familiar, right? Well, I have a saying with my kiddos. I ask them if their love tank is filled each and every night. And what I want to know is that they have had a day where they're going to bed feeling completely and totally filled. And it's not my job as their mom to fill their love tank every single day. Sometimes it's your job to fill your love tank. And one of the ways that our bodies react to our love tanks not being full is to say, I'm overwhelmed and shut down. And that is the cue to fill your tank, fill your cup, whatever that may be. And I'm not just saying, go to Starbucks and get a refill. I'm saying literally, fill your cup, fill your love tank, and you can use your cheerleader. You can use perspective, you can use that one thing that you got done, and you can limit the amount of time that you spend in overwhelm. And that will all fill your cup and fill that love tank that we all have. Imagine that you have this needle going from E to F, right? We used to have it in our cars. I'm not sure new cars actually have that. Where are you right now? Go ahead, get a pen and paper and write down that E and that F. Where are you with your tank? Now let's follow the four steps that we just outlined. What is one thing you can do to fill that tank a little bit more? Where is one area that you can limit your time of being exposed to stress or in an environment that's overwhelming, that will fill the tank a little bit more. Whereas your cheerleader, in that perspective, write down I choose whatever instead of I have to or I need to write down, I choose to go for a walk this evening. Those will all move the needle just a little bit. All right, here we go with the walking dead analogy. You might want to get something to drink for this. When you're feeling overwhelmed, it shuts down your body's operating system. And so you're kind of just wandering along like a zombie. And I don't really watch the show, but I walked in the other day and my husband was watching the show, and apparently there's real humans in zombie costumes just wandering along these zombies. Remember I said there's big overwhelm and there's little overwhelm. Well, with that big overwhelm, you're one of those zombies. You're just kind of following the crowd and when something moves quickly or makes a sound, all of a sudden the entire crowd is just attracted to it and bad things normally happen. Or so I get the point of the show. And when you're small overwhelm, you kind of just have the zombie costume. You're moving along with the zombie hordes, and you're just kind of going with the flow. You don't necessarily move quickly. You don't have an opinion. You don't really have perspective. Right. You're in the middle of the horde. But if you go slow and you use the five tips that I gave you, you gain some perspective and wander to the outside of the horde. If you find a group of non zombies that can cheer you on and protect your values and stand up for you and provide you with that nourishment that you need and you focus on that one thing. What are zombies really focused on? I don't think anything. Right. And you limit your time wandering around in that zombie land and you get your cup filled not with guts and brains and all of that, because although I can't say I've ever tried them, I don't think they're that appetizing. So that was probably the worst analogy I have ever put together on this YouTube channel. And yet the point is, after watching this, I hope that you know at least five ways that you can feel a little less overwhelmed today. And reminding you that I put those videos here together. If you want some more tips on overwhelm, there's even an entire playlist for you made just for you from your own personal business therapist, growth coach, and business coach. I thank you for making the world a better place and cheers to your full cup.
