Every message that is on social media is about growing your followers, how to have more followers. But at the end of the day, do those followers translate into actual paying clients and customers? Hey, Starfish, I have a question for you. Have you ever quit something because you assumed it wasn't working? How do you know it wasn't working? What if you couldn't see the growth yet? So in this video, what we're going to be talking about is how you measure growth and where growth happens. So when talking about growth that you cannot see, what if that growth was below the surface? And what I mean by that is if you think about planting a seed, watering it, making sure that it has sunlight, making sure that the soil is nutritious for this plant to grow, before you ever see a tiny little seed come up and a tiny little branch come up, you are going to have tons and tons of root infrastructure that's going to happen below the surface that you'll never see. So if you plant the seed and you water it and you give it all of this energy and then nothing happens, and then you walk away and just give up on your plant, the next person who comes along is going to see that tiny little sprout of green and continue nurturing what it is that you gave up on, and they're going to reap the benefits from your hard work, from all of your energy that you poured into that tiny little seed. But it takes a couple things to make sure that that your seed will grow and that you have growth. And this isn't just about a seed or a plant, because, trust me, I have a brown thumb. I have a really hard time growing plants. I can grow children, I can grow animals, and I can grow companies. But other than that, I leave the plant growing to the gardeners out there. But when we think about this kind of analogy with growth and business, when you're starting a company, you may not see results in the first month, in the first year even, and so many, the business owner shuts the business down, gives up on the idea, because they don't see that return on investment. And while a lot of these business owners have a very good argument for giving up, if our expectations is that we're supposed to see immediate gratification, we're probably going to be disappointed because growth really takes time. And the irony is, is that when somebody gives up on a business, they never know just how close they were to success. Because typically that first one year, three years in business is the hardest. And then once you have your systems down, once you have recognition in your industry and in your community and you have clients that are spreading word of mouth referrals for you and you're getting business. Once that starts and you've done all the hard work is really when the fun and the magic happens. But you have to stick with it until that roller coaster starts. And it is a roller coaster. If you're a business owner, there are high highs and low lows. And sometimes those happen in the very same day where you get a giant client and you lose a giant client all in a matter of a couple hours. But knowing that you're growing is really the key to being able to be successful. Knowing that even if it's a failure, even if you plant that seed in the wrong soil and it doesn't grow, even if somebody tramples on your plant by acc, even if somebody else grows a plant right next to yours, don't compare your plant or your company or your growth to their growth. It's gonna look different. And that's okay. Actually, it's beautiful. Because when you make mistakes, then you can take that knowledge and you can do better next time. If you never make a mistake, you never know how to improve. You're just guessing because you don't have any data. But being able to look at somebody else's plant and see that growth and their strategy for growth may not work for your plant and it may not work for your life. But being able to take into account the aspects of their growth and see what would apply to your plant, your company, and your life, that is smart. And being able to know that you're not going to waste the energy by making all the mistakes yourself. There are tons of other people out there who have made a ton of mistakes. And you can study them all. Whether it's watching YouTube channels or reading books, or just talking to other people in your space. People are really good about sharing their failures because they want to know that some kind of value and some kind of benefit has come from their mistakes. And if somebody doesn't want to share their failure, then they're probably going to make that mistake again. And so you want to surround yourself with people who are of this growth mindset and, and they understand that they're going to grow a really strong root structure before they even expect to see a tiny little green leaf. Because the importance of having that strong root structure means that no matter how big or how tall or how amazing your company grows, you're always going to have a really strong foundation. And if you can learn that, then no matter what you do, whether you run your own company, whether you work for somebody else, or whether you just apply these foundations to your life, you knowing how to grow that strong root structure means that you'll have that support. If you just grew a really tall, strong tree with absolutely no roots, the first wind or rain or anything, any challenge would knock that over. And how many companies have we seen completely shoot up and outgrow themselves to the point that they end up collapsing just like that giant tree because they did not have a strong root structure? And I would argue that their founders and owners don't necessarily have the experience to know for the next time how to grow that strong root structure. So if you apply this to your life and you end up with a really strong root structure, but nothing grows, it's okay, because then you can evaluate what you can do differently and take that knowledge that nobody can take from you and use it in your next venture for growth. And that is amazing to be able to apply that. I like to work with horses. And there are so many lessons that I get on growth from being around horses and trusting the right people and making sure that you're spending the right energy and trust and communication. I could go on and on. But with growth, when you're thinking about that, take the lessons from all around you in life and apply it to business, apply it to your health, apply it to your family and. And so whatever you're passionate about, for me, it's horses. There's growth lessons in there. I use several gardening analogies. And so being able to use kind of those analogies, if you're a mechanic, then how are you building the machine so that it can be a legacy machine instead of just go for a 10 mile ride and never work again? So these are all the really important lessons for growth that I wanted to share with you. So the two things that I want to end this video with is one about growth metrics. And then I'm going to leave you with a quote. So growth metrics, you don't want to pick vanity metrics, right? You don't want to pick how green your leaves are, because if you're judging a seed by how green its leaves are, then it's never going to fulfill those expectations. So pick actual growth metrics in your life and in your company that are meaningful and they're not vanity metrics. When you're thinking about your social media presence and you want to get to a thousand followers, know what that means? Know if that's actually meaning that your company is growing or Just the amount of followers. So I like to tell people that I count my revenue, not my followers. Right? I'm focused on checks, not followers. So that lesson has been super important for me because almost every message that is on social media is about growing your followers, how to have more followers, how to. But at the end of the day, do those followers translate into actual paying clients and customers? And if that answer is yes, then that is a good metric for you. But if you don't know, then maybe you should do some more work and get some more data so that you know what your actual growth metrics are and what they should be. And this can be applied to your life. So if you're looking at your growth metrics and you're like, well, I want to be more flat fit, what does that look like? Not just the pounds you want to lose, but if you don't really care what that number is on your scale, but you want to focus on your blood sugar or you want to focus on a size, you want to focus on being able to fit into a certain outfit, those are better metrics to look at than just a number on a scale because that number on a scale could easily be moved by the amount of water that you have that day or don't have. And so being able to actually know what it is that you want out of life, if it's not to be healthier, then choose those kinds of metrics then. I said I was going to leave you with a quote. So the quote is going to be, don't judge your roots by their branches because you don't know what's going on below the soil. And you also are growing a different plant, a different life, a different company. So if you're spending all your time being focused on their branches, what do you think is going to happen to your. Your roots? So I hope that you enjoyed this video All About Growth. I want to know in the comments below what you're going to be focusing on as your one growth metrics for the next, let's say six months. Thank you for making the world a better place and thank you for making a difference. I'll see you in the next video. Sam.
