Bunny Young asks her family what gifts mean to them. Her husband and kids start with presents but land on the real answer: something you do, love, and are good at. A simple way to help your child see what makes them uniquely them.

So this was an interesting one for me because this video, I asked not just my kids, but also my husband what the definition of somebody's gifts are. And my daughter's first response might be exactly what you think a kid's response would be when you ask what a gift is. But then the intuitive answer that she comes up with really inspired me. And also my husband's perspective on what a gift is and how somebody inherits a gift or where they get their gifts from was also really great. And how often do we intentionally sit down and ask our family these questions? So I'm going to share with you what my family said and what their answers are, and then I want you to be able to share in the comments what you think gifts are. So here's my family's response. What's a person's gift?
Gift is something that I would say people themselves, the individual doesn't really.
Recognize.
Their gifts, but other people recognize it in them.
What's your gift?
I mean, people would say, I have a gift for, you know, being.
I.
Don'T want to say athletic, but like being able to, like, fall and do, like, stunt work.
Can I ask you another question? Yes. Okay. Do you know what it means when somebody says gifts? Like, oh, you have a gift. Or like, what does that mean?
It means that a gift is something that people give you for reward tips, like your Christmas, which is coming in this week.
Okay. But if I say, wow, Rob, like, you have a gift, like you're doing something, like when you're a horseback riding and you're really, really good at staying on horse and sitting, and I say, you know, you're gifted, you have a gift at horseback riding. What does that mean? Like, when people have gifts? Yeah. You are very good at horseback riding. I think you're better than mommy.
Thank you, Mom.
What gifts do you have inside you.
When you're born? You never really know what your gifts are. Having fun out by doing the things.
That you're good at. Yeah. Is it just the things that you're good at? Like, how do you know something's your gift when I'm doing it? How do I know it's my gift?
You do it all the time? Pretty much experience all the time.
Yeah. That's kind of brilliant. So you do it. A gift is something that you do and you love and you're good at. So what's mommy's gift?
Mommy's gift is to spend time with her family.
And what's your gift?
My gift is coloring and spending time with my family.
And what's Victoria's gift?
Light.
And what's Daddy's gift?
Daddy's gift is skateboarding ziplines, and spending time with his family.
What about Guinness?
Does Guinness have a gift service dog for tending? My dad did it.
Do you have. Do you have something for me?
No, I did.
Yeah.
For the elevator?
Yeah.
Yeah.
For the elevator. Yeah. I think one of your gifts is being a really good dad. I think one of your gifts is being a really good dad. Thank you. So I hope you enjoyed that. I even got, obviously, a little gift of a elevator card from my youngest daughter. So I'm glad that she fully grasps what gifts are and is willing to give and share and hopefully also receive graciously. So now it's your turn. Go and ask your family what their gifts are. What gifts are in human beings and where do they think that they come from? And it's more than just presents under a tree or presents for birthdays. I think that the more that an individual can understand that they are gifted. Each and every one of us have our own unique gifts that we're bringing to this world. I think the better world will ultimately have. So that's all that I have for you today. Thank you for making the world a better place. Thank you for making a difference. And I will talk to you soon. What are your gifts? Huh? Yeah. What do you do for work?
