Post It Note Exercise for Self Gratitude

Bunny Young walks through the Post-it note exercise: write down reasons you're needed, from your roles to small things you do well, then stick them somewhere you'll see them. She also suggests mailing yourself a thank-you card for a bigger boost.

So for this month's gratitude series, we thought we would do a video on what I like to call the Post it note exercise. So we have videos on the win wall, which is what is behind me. And that has a collection of things that I go to to get my energy up. It has testimonials from clients, it has thank you cards, all things full of gratitude. But one of the most important things to be able to get gratitude from. One of the most important people to get gratitude from is yourself. And to know when you're in a slump or something that you are needed and being able to have the self awareness to get yourself out of that slump. And so little known fact is that I am actually not licensed for Post IT notes anymore because apparently you can't have a company named A Better Place Consulting and kill a tree a week by the amount of Post IT notes that you use. And so I'm not licensed for post IT notes. So this was our final box of post it notes. So if you see me with post IT notes or if you see me ordering post it notes, you can call me on my stuff. I didn't cuss. Aren't you proud of me? Very. So that we can continue to make the world a better place. But I call it the Post it note exercise because the idea is that you write down all of the reasons that you are needed and you just self generate these reasons. And so you're needed because you're a great mom. You're needed because the world needs to be a better place. You're needed because your husband would then forget to feed the dogs. You're needed because you are the best pickleball player or you make people laugh. You make people smile. However, V, why are you needed?
Because I help people make make the world a better place by doing the things that they don't like to do.
So if I had given her about 13 more seconds to come up with another answer, she could have done something that was not a canned response. Being able to do it internally is something that we don't practice near enough. I actually think that sending people gratitude cards is not practice near enough. But you don't actually send yourself a thank you card. Have you ever sent yourself a thank you card? No.
No.
No. So maybe that's the exercise too. So on top of the post it note exercise, write yourself a thank you card and go ahead and put it in the mail or send it to me and I will hold it for an undetermined amount of time and then I will mail it to you. So reply to this email. Let me know why you're needed. Let me know why you are grateful for your existence and yourself. How you make the world a better place. Post it in difference makers or just take a picture of your postit note exercise if you want. And I won't tell anybody that you made postit note tree homicide. I don't think that's actually a thing, but thank you for making the world a better place. And thank you for helping me make.
The world a better place.
Bye now.
