The ULTIMATE productivity setup for your life (SO SIMPLE AND FREE!)

A YouTube video by Bunny Young (business therapist) arguing that true productivity comes from slowing down and focusing on one priority at a time. The presenter contrasts dopamine-driven busywork with meaningful, purpose-driven progress, cites behavior change challenges (e.g., low New Year’s resolution success), and ends with practical encouragement and a call-to-action to pick one small, specific step toward fulfillment.

Hello, hello, hello, Starfish. And I know what you are thinking is this could not possibly be another video about productivity. And yet here we are. However, what I do promise you is that this is not about that magical productivity setup for your desk that's just going to instantly increase all of the things that you're going to be able to get done. It is going to be so simple and free. Free and not just be for work, but be for life. And this can be guaranteed because I'm your business therapist and this is the Power of Purpose channel. So for those of you who've been here before, welcome back. For those of you who are just joining us, this is your channel for growth in life and business and everything in between. And I am Bunny Young, your business therapist. Now's the time to smash that subscribe button. And if you have not and you're like, who is this and can I trust her? Stick around for just a couple minutes. That's all I need. And I promise I'll make it worth your subscription. So let me earn it. Productivity growth hacks, all of these kinds of things. Everybody is talking about how to do more, more, more, more and more. And in its 2021, how are we possibly going to fit any more in now that we have jam packed work and life under one roof and most people are remote working and virtual teaching and a variety of other things. And we have all of those videos on another playlist for you. But for the purpose of this video, what I want to talk to you about is productivity by going slower. Yes. I had a coach tell me, bonnie, in order to go faster, you must go slower. And then I started to think about it and I started to think some more about it. And now this is not a bunny joke, I promise. But you remember the story about the tortoise and the hare and who ended up winning out? Well, why the turtle ended up winning out is because they were persistent and consistent. So even though the turtle tortoise went slower, you can tell me in the comments what the difference is. I know there's a difference, but please explain it to me. Is that the turtle went slower and the hare burnout. My words, not actually in the story. But just so you know from a therapeutic perspective, the hare, the bunny, got burnt out because he went too fast and tried to do too much in too short of time. Now let me know with a like if that is you. If you're not hitting that like button right now, it's either because you haven't hit that wall yet, you are a mindset guru or you're just scrolling on another Amazon tab and not actually listening to this video. So come on back to me. So I know that I am speaking fast, which is ironic to the fact that I'm saying slow down. However, I am telling you this being a person who is a recovering productivity addict in the aspect that I used to cheat my meditation app to fast forward to the end just so I could get the points and my run streak would increase and get the minutes. But I missed out on the actual benefits of meditation. And so there are so many things in life that we are checking the boxes and doing the to do list for that little tiny dopamine hit. Come on, you know what I'm talking about. The little red circle. Clearing it from your notifications on either social media or your messaging. We've all done it, but we're not actually moving any closer to our big goals, to the things that actually fulfill us, to our purpose. This is why only 8% of individuals who set a New Year's resolution actually go through the entire year fulfilling it. In fact, over a third of people by the second week of January have already given up. And it's because we are adding another thing to our endless list of other to do's and none of them are actually focused or planned. And so here's what I want you to do and here's the point of slowing down in order to go faster and here's how we're going to win the race is that little dopamine rush that you get will mean so much more when at the end of the day you can sigh and feel that rush of fulfillment in knowing that you made the world a better place. In knowing that you fulfilled your purpose. In knowing that you accomplished that one tough task. And no matter how small it is by repeatedly accomplishing that one tough task or that one goal for the day, you're gonna make monumental progress over the period of a year. And if you add that up to a lifetime, that is a lifetime of purpose rather than just clearing the little red bubble off of your notifications. And it means giving yourself permission to just focus on one thing and do that one thing consistently and give your everything to that one thing. There's a graphic that I like to use from the book Essentialism that has this focus circle. Actually I'll just put it right here so you can see by having your focus clearly defined and in one area, you're essentially adding up all those tiny little to do's to one thing and getting so much further on that one thing than you would be by being everywhere. It's the difference between hitting a 500 yard laser scope rifle shot, a shotgun blast. Depending on what you want to do with your life and how much of an impact you want to make. You have to sit here in this video right now and decide whether you want to dig 1001 foot wells or one 100 foot well. Which one are you going to have more chance of hitting? Gold or water or oil or the most important thing, purpose and fulfillment and life and balance and alignment. All of those things that are so much more rich than just checking a box on the to do list and not really knowing that you're any closer right now in this moment to actually making a difference and being the person that you set out to be. My daily goal is to wake up feeling energized and excited about what's on my calendar and go to bed at peace and feeling fulfilled. That's my goal. Anything in between. That means that I'm not being busy, I'm not focused on being productive, I'm not focused on checking the boxes. And if you're watching this and you're like, yeah, but I still have a job to do, I still have things that I have to get done. What's that thing that you can get done that's going to lead to you feeling fulfilled? And if there's nothing at your job that you can find to be able to answer that question, you're not doing the right job, you're not in the right space for your life and that's okay too. Give yourself permission to slow down and figure out what the right space in your life is and then move towards that, that's absolutely fine. So many people wake up, despise their job, despise what they're doing, or in a lesser manner, just know that something's off. But they don't take time to slow down to actually figure out what it is. And so they don't feel productive and they don't feel like they're getting things done. They don't feel fulfilled. But at the end of the day, if you can identify what the actual purpose is, what your goal is, what you're here for, it's so much, it makes everything else so much clearer on what productivity actually means. Productivity could mean meditating and journaling in the morning. That could make your entire day more productive because you're more clear headed. So yes, slow down to go faster. If you're crushing it at work and you are the best X, Y and Z person at work, but you still aren't feeling fulfilled, then all that matters is you're not living your best version of your life. And that's what truly matters. That's what ultimately everything else falls in line. When we say growth in business and in life and everything in between, the secret sauce is that the more growth you have as a human and the more growth you have internally leads to more growth externally, just naturally, organically, without putting in more effort. And so giving yourself the space and the patience and the clarity to know what your goals actually mean, what the things on your to do list are actually adding up to in making your little corner of the world a better place is the key to being able to have meaningful productivity and not just being busy. The truth is, priority was never meant to be a plural word. It was always meant to be a singular word, because you're only supposed to have one priority. There's only supposed to be one priority, one focus, one thing at a time. And if you're still watching this video, I know that you get that, I know that you understand that all those little hits of dopamine that we talked about from just checking the boxes doesn't actually add up to a life of fulfillment. And that that is what you are truly looking for. And this video is only the beginning. The good news is, is that right after this video, you have the opportunity to open your journal or open your to do list, or open your team to do list and all apps and software that we have in order to get more done and say, what actually matters? Not what can I get done, but what actually matters to me and what makes a difference, not just what makes money, but what makes an impact. Because at the end of the day, the value that you're going to find in a life of impact and a life of fulfillment is something that is going to be priceless. And if you're like, yeah, Bunny, but I still have to pay my mortgage, I understand, and I get that. And I'm not saying to give up on everything else. I'm not saying to do it all today. I'm not saying to accomplish it all in this short couple minutes that we've spent together. I'm just saying you can choose to start now in simple ways. And I want to help you begin that right now. So drop in the comments. Just one small, specific thing that you're committed to that you're going to focus on in the next 24 hours, that's going to help you with that fulfillment, that's going to help you take one step, no matter how big or small, towards your purpose. Drop it in the comments. I promise you that I will acknowledge it. That is my commitment to you. I see you and I honor the fact that you are here for growth for yourself, acknowledging that that growth is going to mean so much for your family, your community, your job, your company, and ultimately the world. And I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a difference and for making the world a better place. And I'll see you in the next video. And don't forget to hit that subscribe button so that anytime you need a little bit of motivation or a little pep talk, I'll be right here waiting for you. See you in the next video.
