Caroline Cavanagh argues anxiety costs the economy billions but can fuel growth when consciously led. She uses the mind-as-muscle metaphor to show how negative self-talk strengthens anxiety while positive habits build resilience. One audience member left the house for the first time in 24 days after her talk.

Anxiety is not a bad thing. It just needs leadership. Our economy loses billions every year to stress and anxiety. I have a lot of people that come to me and they go, I have anxiety! My response is always, brilliant! Doesn't always go down very well. In my talks, I help people change their relationship with anxiety, help them understand what it can do for them. When you see light bulbs go on in people's heads, or they just go, yeah, I get it, and that is just a magical moment, and I saw lots of that happening today.
It's been a really fascinating event. I've come away with a better understanding of me and been given a wealth of ideas, and I would certainly recommend it to others. Thank you, Caroline.
I left the house for the first time in 24 days today. I've been diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder, and I left the house to come here for this, and it was absolutely worth it. Made my night, so thank you.
I was living in the past, and my guilt was keeping me trapped in the past. But as soon as I changed that story and recognised I'm not that little girl anymore, my present became very different. You are back in control. You are releasing yourselves from the story of the past. Our minds are like a muscle. When you flex that muscle, it gets stronger. So if you flex that negative muscle, boy, it gets strong. But when you start to focus on the positive and flex that positive muscle, that gets stronger, the negative one atrophies. Your self-talk creates your reality. So change what you say about yourself.
Caroline's been helping reduce stress levels at work and getting people out of the office just for an hour and listening to helpful advice that she has to offer.
Your reality is what you focus on. Every belief that we have is because we've practiced it. We can all as individuals make a massive difference in the world. Your world is your reality. Make it a good one. The more you look for the beauty, the more you will see it. Make a commitment to yourself now that you can do something that will give you leadership of anxiety. You will be a phenomenal person. All of us can do this. When you have leadership of your mind, you have leadership of anxiety, and that is a mental strength that can really define us. Thank you for listening.
