This is a YouTube diary-style video titled "Diary of a Hypnotherapist, Episode 1 | What does a Hypnotherapist ACTUALLY do? | Anxiety Leadership" (published Aug 1, 2025). It is a single-speaker monologue by a hypnotherapist summarizing a week of client work: cases addressing anger (framed as a fear-based fight response), decision-making difficulties, smoking cessation, extreme emotional/physical abuse recovery, and alcohol use as anxiety coping. The speaker explains therapeutic approaches (addressing root causes of anxiety), reports positive client progress, and closes with a motivational sign-off.

Do you ever get to the end of your week and wonder what the heck you did all week? I often feel that way, but I also have a lot of people that ask me, what does a hypnotherapist actually do? What does an anxiety specialist do? So I've decided every Friday evening to record a short video, both for me as a reminder of what I have done this week, what a difference I've made, because that's one of my biggest motivators to get up and do it all next week. But also it may help people understand a little bit more about what is achievable through hypnotherapy and all the different guises that anxiety comes in. So this week I started working with a gentleman. He's actually first worked with me 7 years ago, and that's quite common for someone to deal with something, then another thing in life hits and they come back. And he had a lot of issues with anger, more common with male clients. And what many men don't understand is anger is still a fear-based response. It's the fight element of the fight-or-flight response, our basic survival instinct. So we started working on what is he feeling vulnerable about— vulnerable, can't even speak now— vulnerable about that his mind was reacting to and instigating that fight-or-flight response. I also worked with another man in Australia, someone that I've been working with for a while, a younger man who has real problems with making decisions. And they're quite significant decisions at his stage of life. But by not making a decision, it's actually leading to a lot of physical pain because that energy is just kind of— it's almost like in a tumult inside him. There's no end to it. So it's helping him find some tools to make some decisions on the basis there's rarely a bad decision. There is just a decision and then move on, and if it's not the right decision, make another decision. And he's made just a decision this week and straight away some of the pain inside his head has started to reduce. I worked with a new client on smoking cessation. I rarely do that, But people who want to give up smoking have to convince me to work with them. It's normally— I'm happy to work with anyone, but if someone really wants to give up smoking, hypnosis works really, really well in doing that. She had one slightly extended session and already things are going really well for her. I also worked with a lady who has been the victim, and I say that very deliberately, of some extreme emotional and physical abuse, making it very hard for her to trust anyone and also to trust herself. So her anxiety levels were extreme. She was basically in the fight-or-flight mode all of the time, and after one very significant session, she's now back down to a level where she can wake up in the morning and not wake up terrified, which is a dramatic change for her. I've also worked with a couple of people this week with alcohol-related issues, and alcohol is quite commonly used to either numb or escape anxiety. And again, rather than deal with the symptoms, we look to deal with the cause— what's causing the anxiety that you're using alcohol to mask. So it's been a really varied week, and that's one of the things I love about what I do. No 2 days are the same, no 2 clients are the same, no 2 sessions are the same. But everyone that's worked this week has moved forward, and, um, yeah, I'm really motivated. It's been a brilliant week. And I look forward to doing all again with a whole different group of people very soon. And in the meantime, I wish you a wonderful day, weekend, whenever you're listening to this, watching this, ahead. Yeah, thanks for listening, and I will be back next week. Take care. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
