Do mantras work? Why do so many people see them as pointless?

Caroline Cavanagh says mantras work, but most are poorly written. An effective mantra uses present tense ("I am"), feels credible to you, and stays short. She uses "this too shall pass" as an example of one that works.

Do mantras work? My answer is yes, but the reason so many people discount them is because they're not written well. A good mantra fits 3 criteria: it's written in the now, I am, not I will be; it's credible, within the realms of believability for you; And it's short. My go-to mantra is, this too shall pass. It's in the now. It's credible. Nothing does last forever. It's 4 words. Good mantras work because anything that you repeat, your mind takes on board and creates as your truth. I like to use my mantra when I'm stressed. It gives me a light at the end of the tunnel. However I'm feeling in that moment, will pass. They're also good at changing beliefs that no longer serve you, or to help you feel brave as you're about to step out of your comfort zone. Good mantras work, and if you would like to have a mantra that works for you, please get in touch through the contact page of my website carolinecavanagh.co.uk, and I would love to help you create your perfect mantra.
