How to become stronger through allowing yourself to be vulnerable

A coaching client describes how Caroline's honest feedback helped them see blind spots they couldn't spot alone. Working through vulnerabilities in a safe space made it possible to resolve problems independently and think more clearly.

When I first started visiting Caroline, one of the things that was immediate to me was the ease at which I built up a rapport. And this, over the years, has become incredibly important to me, if not the most important thing. It's absolutely vital because when I visit Caroline, and my sessions are now regular, I have a confidante. I have somebody that I allow myself to expose all my vulnerabilities to, and it's only by doing that that I'm able to really understand what problem I have with something. You know, so if there's something that I'm not getting over, if there's something that I can't work through, it's only by allowing that exposure, which I can only do with Caroline really, because I don't feel threatened by who I'm talking to. I'm able to have probably the most honest conversations with myself. And there's always the feedback loop where you have an observation, Where Caroline steps in and says, what about this? Have you, have you seen this? Do you realize you're doing this? And often I don't, because I'm so focused on where I'm trying to go and what I'm trying to do and how I'm trying to achieve it. I often miss lots of turning signs and miss loads of junctions where I could turn left instead of turning right. And those little feelings where I'm in a constant roundabout and I don't understand why, Caroline is able to lay down the map and say, Look, this is what you're doing. And but again, it's going back to the trust. Because I've developed this relationship with Caroline and I can trust her, I don't doubt myself. In fact, I look forward to the sessions, and if there's ever anything on my mind, I know to take them with me and just open up about them. And often, as I open up, I solve it for myself. But it's having a platform to do it. It has— it's having an environment to do that, the opportunity to actually be that honest with yourself in front of another person. And that, that's really everything that happens for me when I'm in those sessions. It's, it's like turning up every time with a blank canvas and then painting the picture. And I couldn't— I just wouldn't be able to do that without Caroline.
