I've heard a quote from Michael Jackson saying, I was never pleased with what I achieved because I'm a perfectionist. How sad that someone was never pleased with his achievements, especially when that created so much joy for so many people in the world. Perfectionism is a huge source of stress and anxiety and is rooted in the fear of not being good enough. Atelephobia. But after all, what is perfectionism? Is it even real or just a moving goalpost whilst you're blindfolded? So today's tip is to scrub perfectionism and instead focus on doing your best. Perfectionism is scaling Mount Everest. Doing your best may be just going out and buying some hiking boots. But when you do your best, you move forward, you learn something, and even if you make a mistake or someone does it better, you have improved through that learning. Perfectionism tends to keep you stuck. Just do your best and know that in your best, that is the perfect target to be aiming for.
