In this solo YouTube monologue, Caroline Cavanagh introduces her "radio frequency" technique for managing anxiety and stress. She begins with a personal anecdote about a local radio station changing formats, using the experience to illustrate how external broadcasts can affect internal emotional states. She extends the metaphor to news media and interpersonal interactions, explaining that negative "frequencies"—whether external sounds or internal self‑talk—can heighten anxiety. The core of the technique involves recognizing when you are tuned into a negative broadcast, then consciously switching to a more positive frequency, such as a favorite music station, a different perspective, or a constructive internal narrative. Caroline emphasizes that this choice restores personal control over feelings. She also mentions that the radio frequency method is one of many SIS (Self‑Improvement Strategies) techniques she teaches, and she directs listeners to a curated YouTube playlist of these tools, encouraging them to build a diverse emotional‑regulation toolkit. The video concludes with an invitation to subscribe for future techniques.

Hi there, it's Caroline Cavanagh, and I want to talk today about a little technique that I call my radio frequency technique, and it's a brilliant one that I use when you're feeling a bit anxious, a bit stressed. And I'd like to tell you and share with you a little story about how this technique kind of, kind of evolved. So I live in Salisbury, and up until fairly recently, there was a radio station in Salisbury called Spire FM. And I loved Spy FM. It played the music that I loved, it was all about local news, and then it changed hands. A different station that played a different music. And I started to notice that, you know, I got in the car, the radio would, you know, come on, and I'd think, oh, I'm never gonna hear Adele or all the music that I loved again because the genre of this news station, the music they was playing was very, very different. So the frequency of that music was actually causing a change in me. Similarly with the BBC News at the moment, I don't know about you, but certainly when I listen to the news, very, very quickly I find myself feeling really quite, you know, anxious, stressed, upset even, because there is very, very little on there that leaves you feeling good. So again, the frequency of that broadcast was having an impact on my own internal frequency too. And this really is where this concept of radio frequency came into play, and it's one that I now talk to and teach a lot of my clients. Because when you recognize that all of the time there are hundreds of radio frequencies out there I was tuning into Spire FM, but there was also Magic, Heart, All Kiss, all these other ones. They're all out there, but I was tuning into it a bit like a normal radio station. But if that radio station doesn't leave you feeling good, you can change it. And that's very similar. You don't have to stay anxious. You don't have to stay stressed. You can— Change it. Tune out of it. And when you change the frequency, when you make a different choice, you are back in control. So this is really now what the radio frequency technique is all about. It's starting to recognize what's the trigger, and the trigger in most cases is how you feel. If you start to notice that you're feeling a bit anxious, a bit upset, Then start to go, what am I tuning into? Am I tuning in to a negative news broadcast? In which case, tune out. Am I tuning in to someone's behavior? If someone's being a bit of a Muppet, again, change the frequency because their frequency, you are receiving it, you're internalizing it. So tune out, tune up to a different frequency. The one that's a little bit more challenging, but it's still very doable, Is that own internal broadcast that we all tend to have. It's that story that goes round and round, or that memory that you just hang on to like an ongoing washing machine that's on eternal cycle. It's just a frequency, so tune out. And the easiest way to tune out of something that you don't like is to tune in to something that you do like. So I tuned out from the new Spire FM. I don't even know what it's called. I think it's Greatest Hits FM, something like that. And I've now tuned in to magic, and I love it. So by— nothing's changed in me apart from a little button on my radio and what that was broadcasting and receiving. I've now changed, and so I'm receiving something else and feel something else. You can change your feelings when you take control, and the radio frequency is a fantastic way of you getting back in control and receiving the frequency that works for you. So hopefully that's something that you can relate to, something— give it a go. And I love sharing all of the SIS techniques. There's lots of them out there because no one particular technique is going to work all the time and work for every single person. So I'm compiling a little playlist of all of these techniques that I use with all of my clients on my YouTube channel. So if at any point you want to pick up some more of these, just go to YouTube, type in Caroline Cavanagh. There's a little picture of something like me, you'll find it. And all of the techniques I've broadcast so far are on there. If you want to subscribe, then all of the others that I put up you'll be notified about, and you can just increase your toolkit. And that's really what this is all about. It's having a toolkit of different techniques that you can use Regardless of what situation you're in. Sometimes if we're buzzing up here, some of these techniques are going to work. If you're down here, others of them won't work. So the more tools you have in your toolkit, the more you have the control of feeling how you want to feel. So thank you very much for listening. I hope you enjoyed it, and come back soon and I'll share my next technique with you. But bye-bye for now. Bye.
