I made each one of my roommates, new roommates, pay me 100 bucks a month for electricity and water. We lived on a well and we had solar. Duh. Okay. So here I am now doing what's called pad splitting and co living, which is now actually a thing. I didn't invent it, but I did it right. And so the place I lived was a five, four, four and a half bedroom, we'll call it that. Four and a half bedroom, four bath house on five acres in Buckeye before Buckeye was cooled. And it was before that crazy lumber crisis that we had too. And so what I did was I called the owner property. I said, listen, I'm paying you rent. I said, but can you sell me the property? I'd rather buy the property, split it up and sell it. He says, buddy, I did that in 2006, and then this thing happened in 2008. I said, whoa. I said, let me guess. I said, you bought it, split it, couldn't sell it. He goes, yep. I says, well, shit.
