Discovering Your WHY | Aligning Purpose with Impact | Titan Impact Group

Catherine Bell, Donny Peterson, and Jeremy Bryant walk through Colare's leadership model for finding your purpose. They use a three-question Venn diagram to find where passion, skill, and impact overlap, then introduce a seven-pillar framework to clarify what your "why" actually is.

Okay, you guys, I am so, so excited to have you guys come on and meet these two extraordinary gentlemen that I had the privilege of meeting and are doing absolutely amazing things, and they're talking about one of the most important things that I talk about. Anybody who spends any time with me, usually you get two things. You get to cry, and you get homework. So one of the things I talk about is that you need to start with your why. Like, what is your why? Because without your why, you have nothing, Right? And that's the whole, like, a man without a vision will perish or a woman, whatever. And your why is your vision, which is really important. But here's what I love about this, is that it's not only talking about it, but they actually teach about it and how to actually get to your why, which is so super important. So I'm really, really excited to have Jeremy and Donni. I'm so over the moon, excited to have everybody learn about you guys and what you're doing with all the things. So I say, yeah, let's go ahead and jump in. Are you guys good with that?
All righty.
Let's do it.
I love this. So, again, one of the most important things about anything in life, be it a relationship or. Or a business or a nonprofit or anything that we're doing, being driven by your why is so critical. I know, for me, is that is a huge part of what has me weather the storm in the really tough days. Like, it's not. It's not, like, are the tough days gonna happen? Oh, no. It's when. Like, they will happen for sure. And if I'm not solidly planted in my why, it'll take me off course in a heartbeat. So I would love for you to just speak to that, and then we'll jump into actually introducing you guys.
Yeah, you know, I think you nailed it. When we were just talking about this last week, and one of the things that came up was understanding the difference between purpose and calling. You know, so many things happen in life. So many variables, so many. Life is complex, and it comes with natural suffering and natural opportunities, if you will, for growth. And I think if. If you. You know, it's. It's the proverbial metaphor of the plane that gets 1% or the boat that gets 1. I'm going to use boats a lot. We're from Florida. That's what we got to do. But it's the proverbial 1% off of target. Gets you into a whole nother. A whole nother country. And I think that's very important is as we begin to look at life and you look at all those things, it's a, it's a true north, it's a center. It brings you back to. It brings you back to Europe and ultimate purpose. Right. And, and what it is God has called us to do and how he's called us to live. And if we can, if we can understand that in our lives, then what, what we determine is no matter the circumstances, the wind and the waves, if you will, of life, we always know the direction we're going so that we can always get back on course.
Yep.
Right. Yeah. There's so many things I want to say about this, so let's go ahead and actually share with everybody who you guys are. So everybody knows who I am. I'm five time international bestselling author, president of Titan impact group, the Bell Community Empowerment foundation, wealth wise women, all the fun things. So who I'm the who for is people that want to create multiple streams of passive income so that they can make that impact that they're here to make. Right. Because money is like oxygen. The more you have, the easier it is to breathe. And the more you have, the easier you can breathe, the bigger the difference in the world you can make. And I believe if you can make a difference, you must. Right now. The other piece is that I hear a lot of people that they're lost and they don't know what their why or their vision or mission is. So I would love for you too to just introduce yourselves and just share a little bit about your background and why this is so important to you, your why, and then we'll jump into the why for everybody else.
I love it.
All right, well, I'm Jeremy Bryant. I have been passionate about leadership development for a very long time since really being a teenager and then through my college years and then beyond over the last several years, I've had the incredible privilege and opportunity, responsibility to work one on one with team members at a chick fil a here in Florida 9 Mile Road and help them on their leadership development journey and helping them really navigate their why. As many of them are just coming through high school, they're coming through college, and they're looking out toward the future. And then we have other team members that now they're in a complete career change, some of them are making complete changes, and now they're finding themselves in a little chicken restaurant. But it's way more than that. And so sitting with them through our development program and then helping them connect the dots There. So I'm the chief servant officer with Kolair, which Mr. Donnie will talk about here in a moment. And then I am a faith based leadership coach. I. I work in a lot of different ways. I help navigate and make connections to a lot of faith lessons from the development program. There's a lot of wisdom in the Bible that you find there and so we're able to connect that there and then also help focusing on excellence within our restaurant as well. So that's a little bit about me.
Yeah. Don't let Jeremy sell you sort sell you short. He is very, very good at working with people. That's one of the reasons that I was so attracted to bringing him on as a friend and as a partner with us, because he is so good at working with people and helping come alongside them. So he does a good job of that.
Thank.
I am Donny Peterson. I am the. The founder of Colare. Colare is Latin for cultivate, by the way. I. For the last 20 years, I have been the operating partner at a local Chick Fil A. And we at this Chick Fil a became known inside of Chick Fil A. If Chick Fil A is known for anything, it's leadership and our people. We became known inside of Chick Fil A for developing the leaders that became operators and went to work at other restaurants. And we discovered something right after Covid that many companies were coming along and asking us, how do you do what you do? Chick Fil A corporate was sending people to us. So our operator asked me if I was interested in starting our. Over the last 20 years, we've cultivated this leadership development process. It's called our LDP program. It's where we walk into businesses and we help them. Well, at this time it was just the store and we take 16 year olds and teach them how to run a 12 million dollar chicken business and.
Okay, let's just stop there for a second. Yeah, Okay. I had twin teenagers to teach them anything was like. Anybody's heard me. It was the eye rolling and the Darth Vader breathing that. So the fact that you've taken multiple teenagers and done this is nothing short of a miracle. Anybody as teenagers? Yeah, right.
Yeah. It's been a beautiful thing. You know, one of the things that people keep asking me is to record more of the. What are they called? The stories. And we have, and I'm not exaggerating, we have thousands of people who have been through this program who would come back to us and say it's changed their lives. And to be able to see them go on to be business owners. You know, we have multi million dollar CEOs, we have multimillion dollar business owners. But the marketing officer of, I'm shocked, he's not on this call. But the marketing officer of Dollywood is actually from our store. So. But you know, yeah. The greatest gift that I have been given in the Kilair realm, in the development, leadership, development realm is when young men and young women who didn't have hope go on to be good dads and good moms. And it's really impacted my life. And to see them make generational changes and generational impacts is something that Wild will forever cherish. So, and Kallair was us coming together and saying, hey, how can we take our leadership development process to the world? So now what we're doing is we're kind of taking this process that we have and beginning to move it into other organizations and companies. And we're excited about that. I'm also a full time pastor by the way. 13 years. And I also am a. I run a NGO, a non governmental organization in Fort Porto, Uganda called Yachty Youth Action Develop Initiative, where I help, I help underprivileged men and women become. Become leaders.
Wow, that's extraordinary. So let's talk about why this matters, what you guys are doing. Like why why matters. Why does y matter?
Yeah, I think for me it's because why puts us on course. It places us where we want to be. You know, one of the examples that I'll use in just a moment is if you don't know your why, then any what can take you off course, any what can take you anywhere. And what we have discovered is when we deal with 16 year olds, when we deal with 60 year olds, it doesn't matter that a lot of times they come to us and they understand what they're doing, they understand how they're doing it, but they don't know the why. And I think the why builds in what I would say is intrinsic value, that intrinsic worth, that intrinsic capacity to now know what you're doing. You know, my own personal mission statement is to influence the faithful and passionate pursuit of an excellent life for the glory of God. That's why I live. So everything I do, no matter what it is, I have the freedom and opportunity to do that. And I think when you discover your why, then no matter the vehicle that's going to, that you're at at the moment, it can put you there. You know, we were using this story just the other day. I think it was Jeremy's wife, who's actually on this thing. Hey, Kristen.
Oh, yay.
She made this statement, and I found it so powerful that, you know, when we start talking about our why, when you know your purpose, then any calling that you have in the midst of that finds meaning and it finds value. But if you don't know why, if you don't know your why, then you're going to look for those callings to find that. You look at David. David was meant, you know, he was meant to be a man after God's own heart. That was his purpose. But his calling was a shepherd, a king, a father. All these different callings that he had in the midst of that. But he was always to be a man after God's own heart. And I think that's important for all of us to understand.
I love that. That is so powerful. So getting to the heart behind the model and what you guys are doing, like, here's the thing that I connect with you guys on immediately was, like, your heart behind this whole thing.
Yes. Yeah. For. I'm gonna do a lot of talking. Jeremy, you gotta interrupt me. You know, when we were starting this, one of the things that we began to look at, C.S. lewis wrote a fantastic book. He's also the author of Chronicles of Narnia.
If you're not familiar with him, I love it. Yep.
But he wrote a fantastic book. And in that book, he talks about. He compares humanity to a fleet of ships. And one of the things that he speaks about is us sailing together in formation. And I think it's a brilliant metaphor, but it's not just, you know, philosophical poetry. It's actually a blueprint for leading. So he said. He talks about it like this. When we're asked to move together, how do we move with meaning? And this is what he talks about. He says the first question that we often ask is, how do we keep our boat from bumping into other boats? This is what he would call social ethic. Every decision we make, every word we speak affects the people around us. There is no such thing as private sin or private struggle or private anything. It affects our families. It affects everybody. But the problem is. And by the way, he would call that social ethic, the situation behind the problem with that is, if that's all we focus on, then all we're focusing on is how do we keep our boat from bumping into other boats? Before you can do that, you actually got to know, hey, how do we keep our boat in working order? You know, a ship that can't Steer leaks, water lacks fuel. Just it can't stay aligned. It won't ever be able to stay aligned with the people around them. And that's what's called personal ethic. And what we discovered is that most people you come in and you speak to, they're talking about this personal ethic and this, this social ethic. But then he says, okay, now that we know that, how do we keep. The essential question is, why are we out here in the water on the first place and where are we going? Because without the why, we risk becoming high function, we risk becoming high functioning, well funded, but completely off course. And I find that if you don't have that why, in keeping you from doing what God's called you to do, then what you're going to discover is you're going to discover yourself doing things that you never thought were possible because you get off that course. And I love this quote from C.S. lewis. I'm going to read it to you. He says, you cannot make men good by law, and without good men, you cannot have a good society. What does it matter how tidy the fleet is if it's sailing toward a wreck? And I found that to be extremely powerful. And that's our heart. Our heart is to give people that essential ethic so that they're able to live out their lives personally and socially in the world around them, so that we can. So that we can not only glorify God, but also be able to find human flourishing and fulfillment in all that we do.
Wow. This is incredible. So let's talk about your leadership model. This is beautiful.
All right, I'm going to give that to Jeremy.
All right, so our leadership model here at Claire is based off of three levels. We start with rooted. And what we've discovered over the years is you can come in and start teaching leadership principles right out the gate. But if there's not a foundation first with the people you're working with, that's rooted in character. As we talk about that boat, that C.S. lewis reference is my boat in good working order. If we don't first answer that question, then essentially the leadership can be then twisted and manipulated and can become really off tilted and misaligned. And that's where you get bad leadership, right? And so we start with rooted, and that's really focusing on that character, personal character. We talk about personal ownership, personal leadership, personal management, and we work through those aspects. Learning about your personality type, learning about how that, number one, how does that help me function? Navigate through leadership, we then navigate up into level two. Which is flourish. And now we're taking, all right, I got my boat in working order. How do I ensure that works well with others? So how do I make sure I am building genuine respect with the people I'm working with? How do I master conflict? Because if you're working with people in any capacity, there's going to be conflict at some point. So how do you navigate conflict resolution in a healthy way? How do you improve your, your, your understanding of your relationships and work effectively in a team setting? How do you work well and deal with people as an art? It's not just, I have to see this person, I'm just going to ignore them because I don't really know what to handle today. No, there's an art to dealing with people and to do so in a healthy way. So we help them with that and once we've set that foundation, then we navigate into, cultivate and this is where really we deep dive into leadership principles. We help them cast vision, talk about why are we out here in the first place and where are we going? That's leadership casting that vision. And then how do I bring the people I'm working with with me because of the leaders, not bringing the people with you, then that's not, that's not leadership. So helping them then take that, to build high, high functioning teams that work well together. And then ultimately it's because they're also being developed personally too. So helping them develop that 360 loop of feedback and, and mentorship as well with their leadership. So those are the levels that it kind of builds on. And level three is really perpetual leadership. Because as a good leader, you never stop learning. You should continue hunger to grow yourself because if you stop growing as a leader, you can't expect your team to continue to grow and develop either.
Right. Well, and it's that emotional intelligence is what I hear. Like the emotional intelligence is being like taught and then woven in through like every layer throughout the whole thing. And I mean, we know about, you know, iq, but EQ is like coming better known to be the more important thing. So it's beautiful.
Yeah.
And I think what's important for something Jeremy just added real quick is he said, you know, throughout this whole process, we're weaving in the why. And that's some of the things we're going to talk about today. You know, we start in character by talking about your personal why. And then when we go into relationships, you're able to see how you relate to people and this, all of this becomes so very foundational. Important that we can begin to see how that why works out. So that by the time you enter into that level three, you're starting to get that. Get that familiarity with why, how and all the things of your life. So it's very exciting.
Yep.
Yeah. This is. I mean, I hope that everybody is getting the importance of understanding your why. Like, it is. I don't know any of you, like anybody, like, you can put in the little chat or whatever. It's like, how lost do you feel when you don't know your why or you don't know your purpose? Right. Like, this is. I don't know, to me, this is like absolutely paramount. So let's talk about the whole discovering your purpose, like the how you guys do this. I find this fascinating.
I love it. So these are three concentric circles, basically a Venn diagram. In order to help you find your sweet spot. If we were to sit down with you for 15 minutes, these are the three questions we would ask. If we were to sit down with you for a couple of hours, we would maybe dive in a little bit more. The next slide that we're going to show you is really more of a day, a two day, a three day, kind of even. It leads into six months kind of working through it. But if I were to.
This one.
Yeah, we'll get to that second. But the first one is. So if I were to ask you in a very basic question, it would say, okay, number one, what fuels you the most? We're talking about your passions, right? What brings fuel to your life? What brings energy to your life? Number two, what can you do best? Because the truth of the matter is you can have all the passion you want, but if you can't fulfill it, you know, I can, I can be passionate about basketball, but if I can't shoot that thing, it ain't going to. There ain't no sense of me being a basketball player. But so it's finding that passion, finding what you can do best. And then thirdly, where is your greatest impact? Where are you making. Where are you seeing the greatest impact being made? And these three questions, if you begin to take them together, they find this sweet spot. And that's when we start working out the next part. If we go to the next slide, you'll see this. And we have renamed this Idea Purpose. It's an acronym that we use. And this is literally seven things that we do. Each of these objectives have four to six worksheets or practices. We're going to give three of those away today on this on this. On this. To this group that we're meeting with. But it's the first p. Your passions and your interests, we help discover here. What are you passionate about? What are those where we discover patterns in your life that naturally have captivated your interest. One of my favorite examples is we actually go back to when you were a kid and we began to look and see through those various formations of your life, through your early childhood, through your adolescence, through your early adulthood. And for some of. Some of you who are, that's where you are. That's where we stop. But for the rest of us, we go into more senior adulthood, more seasoned adulthood, as we like to say in the church. So this is where we can help define the passions and interests. Then we start moving into unique strengths. Where do you feel yourself gifted? We move into remarkable contributions. Where do you find you're able to make the biggest contributions in life? Personal values. We're going to stick on this in just a moment when we get to the actual giving away of things, because this is one of the ones that we found to be the easiest to do, but also sometimes the most impactful because some. Most people that we meet don't know the value their own personal value system. And if they don't know that, they're going to work off of different value systems. Outcomes and impacts. What are. What are some ways that you have made outcomes? What are some ways that you have impacted people in your past? And source Motivations. Where do you find motivation for your life? And where do you get the most drive for that? And then, of course, lastly is essential drivers. This is basically the chapter where we put all of these together in one little sentence and we begin to work that out in a way that can fulfill your purpose. And that's how I found my sentence. My life purpose is, you know, to influence the faithful and passionate pursuit of an excellent life for the glory of God. Almost every single word in that passage has meaning for me. I walk myself through these seven pillars and it helped me facilitate that in my own life. And we have found it to be extremely helpful in the lives of others.
So powerful. This is incredible. So let's talk about this because you guys have an actual. Like, this is a workshop that you guys do. So I want to be clear about that for everybody who's attending is that this is an actual workshop. So let's just talk about, like, what that looks like. This is really fascinating to me.
Yeah. So you're looking. It depends on how deep you want to go with us. Some people like to say meet with us once a month and then we come back and help them answer questions, basically coaching them through. Let me say this, let me, let me. There's. There is a caveat most of the time that I hear of why coaches, they tell you that they're going to help you find your why. I don't help you find your why. You know your why. I'm just going to help you ask the questions so that you can discover that why. Because I don't write your why. That's above my pay grade. But to come alongside and to help people be able to do that. So if you wanted an in depth thing, this would be eight hours. So it starts with a pre workshop questionnaire or a pre workshop questionnaire depending on how we spell it. Apparently we don't know how to spell workshop but we got that going for.
Us which is, that's kind of appropriate cause we had all the shifts at the beginning. You started out talking with shifts.
I like it, I like it. I should have worked with that. Catherine. I apologize. But we send this out about three weeks before and this is just a generic overview of where you are in each of those seven areas. And then the second thing that we send out, and here's our thought on this. And I have found this to be personally very helpful. If you knew my story, I'm not going to go real deep because of time, but I grew up without a father. My father was an alcoholic, died of stress of the liver. I preached his funeral. My stepdad was a drug addict, very abusive in our life. I didn't have men in my life to tell me I was wrong. They just basically wanted to get rid of me. Right. I didn't have anybody in my life that wanted to be around me. So I always found it very difficult to invite feedback. I found that to be very difficult in my life. So one of the things that I have found value in is surrounding myself with people that can speak truth into my life in love.
Yes.
And whether you call them mentors, coaches, friends, family, whatever. So what we did is we established first there's this pre workshop questionnaire. I'm going to reach. I'm going to change it. For now that will be a workshop questionnaire and then the second thing will be our trusted observers feedback exercise form. So what we do is we ask you to send this form to three to five colleagues, friends, family members, mentors. I would love it to be somebody that not only maybe somebody who has. Has relational capital in your life, somebody maybe, maybe it's a supervisor. If you have, if you're not a business owner, if you're a business owner, maybe you do it with a partner, maybe you do it with some of your key employees, whatever. But what this does is that gives you tremendous feedback and it is, I will say it is brutal at times because you don't see your own weaknesses. And for those who are fearful of seeing their weaknesses, this can be very, very painful. But let me say this. It's an exercising pain, right? It's a muscle exercising pain. It's a pain that, it's the suffering and the pain that leads to growth and opportunity. It's not a pain that is meant to hurt you. It's a pain that's meant to help you. And I believe that's very important. So those are the two big things that we're going to give away today. A workshop questionnaire. We're going to give you the trusted observer feedback form. Those are the two that you can do. The third one, however, is we're going to snatch out of those seven, those seven parameters. We're going to snatch out of one of those in the second P of passions or personal values. And we're going to give you a personal value form. This is one of the four exercises that we do inside of this parameter. And what we're going to ask for you to do, if you don't have it already, is to use this form to determine your personal values. It's a three step process to identify your core personal values. And when you get it, man, it's powerful. It's very influential in my life. It has been very powerful in my life and it's been very instrumental as we begin to develop people in developing their purpose and their why.
Yes, this is incredible, you guys. I'm super excited about this. I hope you all are like really excited about this. So here's what's really cool is we're coming back on Thursday and Thursday is where you get to actually engage and we're going to have a whole conversation. So I'd love for you all to come to this. Laura's going to drop in the chat, the registration. So make sure you get registered for that to come back. And these forms and questionnaires you just talked about, do you guys want to drop those in the chat right now as a gift to everybody that showed up? You guys. 95% of success is just showing up, right? And it's that piece of like who you choose to surround yourself with. You are like the five people you spend the most Time with. So everybody that keeps coming, hanging out with me. Thank you. And I have other cool people that, you know, we come on. So Jeremy and Donnie, to have you guys come and be doing this, this is really powerful. Like, I feel like this needs to. I mean, they should be teaching this in high school. You know, it's like, again, it's that whole emotional intelligence piece. This is, like, critical to the whole thing. So the. Laura, put the registration. Okay, you guys, there's the. In the chat, looks like Jeremy just put the work. The worksheet. So go ahead and download those so that you have those. And then, really, I would love to have you come back on Thursday and have a conversation with us about this, because I feel like. So here's the thing I know, and I'll just share this, is that I. So every year, I go through and I do my goals, which are based on my why. And I do it in the five areas of my life. Mental, emotional, physical, financial, and spiritual. But then I turn it into an incantation that I listen to every single morning while I'm getting ready. Now it's 10 years of goals, and it takes 45 minutes to listen to. It's a lot like. But I've been doing this for, like, the last 30 years, right? So it just keeps growing and growing, getting better. And I've got a whole vision board, so I have it displayed visually. I have it written out, and then I listen to it auditory. Like I'm getting it in every way. And what I. What I discovered two weeks ago is that goals that are on there that were scheduled to complete in the next three to five years, I literally accomplished them within six months.
Wow.
Wow, Right. Because again, it's that clarity. Like, I'm so incredibly clear about what it is, and then what the measures look like. And then, of course, I have it visually, so it's beautiful and it's framed and all of that. Anybody who's watched those webinars, I'll do that again. But then listening to it as well, and intentionally leaning in every single morning before I get started on anything or while I'm getting started, so to speak. But the power of that is that my unconscious mind has gone to work to find the who's that know how to make the connections to actually have those be accomplished. And what should have been, you know, 18 to 36 months, down to, like, six months. So doing this work is so incredibly important. Again, I've been doing this for. In a different. Like the same, but different. Right. So I love the layers that you guys are bringing to this so that people can be doing this for themselves. But I want to, like, encourage them to lean in and actually do the work. Right? I always tell my twins, listen, I don't care what you know, I only care what you do. Right? And we have to lean in and do this work. Because the reality is, you guys, just like I said at the beginning, you know, money is like oxygen. The more you have, the easier it is to breathe. And the more you have, the easier you can breathe, the bigger difference in the world you can make. And if you can make a difference, you must, right? Like, that's really critical. So I feel like if you're all here, if you're watching this, if you're watching the recording, you were clearly called here to listen to this. But more importantly, not just listen now, what are you going to do with it? Are you going to lean in? So come back to the webinar with us on Thursday and we're going to talk more about this. It's going to be a full on interactive Q and A session, so you guys can learn more about the course and all the things. But Jeremy and Donnie, thank you for the work that you're doing. To the core of my being, this is a really, really critical, like, foundational and fundamental thing that I know I've been doing for decades. And I firmly believe everybody needs to be doing this.
So thank you for having us. I'm very grateful.
You guys are amazing. So we will see you on Thursday. Thank you, everybody for coming and being a part of this. And I can't wait to see you all on Thursday. I hope this was absolutely amazing for you. I know it was amazing for me. I love that. Okay, you guys have an extraordinary day and we'll see you on Thursday.
Thank you.
God bless. Thank you.
Bye, everyone.
