Overcoming Your Worst: By Living Your Best

Misty Lane went from medical school to prison, then wrote a book while incarcerated and built a coaching practice around helping others share their stories. She runs writing retreats and speak-up workshops, with a collaborative book launching in April at StepUpAndSpeakout.com.

Hey, everyone, it's Kathryn with Titan Impact Group, where we leave every person, property, and community better than we found them. And I couldn't think of a better person to come on than to share with these two ladies because they absolutely live my vision out every day in the world of leaving every person, property, and community better than they found them, which is so extraordinary. So this is my beautiful friend Teresa here. You can follow her. She's all over Facebook, and she does these amazing, inspiring videos. And then, of course, my beautiful new friend Misty here, and she has this incredible book and an amazing story to tell. And so I would love for you to share how what you're doing through your book and through your workshops of literally living that vision out.
Absolutely. Thank you, Kathryn. So my whole vision is to teach transparency in the world, because transparency is liberating. It's freedom. I believe every one of us have something from our past that we need to forgive ourselves for that's keeping us toxic, keeping us with negative beliefs about ourselves. So it's all about overcoming your worst. To live your best through transparency. My platform is writing. Everything's all about writing. Because literally, I wrote this book sitting in a prison cell. I went from med school to prison, and it was liberating. It saved my life. So I do writing retreats, speak up workshops about learning how to get the courage to speak out on the stage about your story, because your story today could change a life tomorrow. Kathleen.
So here's what's really extraordinary is what you shared with me about the first time when that lady came rushing up to you. So. So please share that, because I think that's extremely profound.
So I was at a Habitat Warrior conference with Don Fawcett, coached me, and I actually won that competition. It was my first time ever. And I'm throwing this on you quickly, but my first time ever to speak out loud on the stage that I had killed someone in a car wreck behind crack cocaine. And I was so afraid of the judgment. What are they gonna think of me? What are they gonna think of me? Cause then I didn't know it wasn't about me. It's actually about your message. But when I got off the stage, a woman came to me and she said, thank you. My mother died, and I've hated her because she was a crack addict, but I never understood her side. The pain, the hopelessness, what the addiction had her doing. And so it was insight for her. Not just. The book isn't just for the addict. The book is for the person around the attic as well. Yes. Yes.
I love that. So if you are somebody who is struggling with somebody in your life that you love, that is dealing with an addiction, please go and get this book and read, and you will get some serious insight into what they're doing and what's going on for them to be able to have compassion and reconnect with them.
So I coach authors on writing their own story. But we can start you out. We have a collaborative book coming out in April, and we teach you how to put your chapter together.
