How does the 3 BrainsTheory work? An explanation :-)

Christoffel Sneijders explains why we miscommunicate: we rely only on logic, ignoring the heart brain (90,000 neurons, drives empathy) and gut brain (500 million neurons, drives self-preservation). Balancing all three is essential for understanding others.

When you think about your own body, where would you say your brain is located? That's almost a no-brainer. Here, I think that you would say. And when you think about language and how you understand somebody else, where's that located in your brain? I think you almost would say there. So for understanding somebody else, or being understood, or communicating with somebody, Then this would be the most important thing we have, isn't it? Okay, keep that thought because we're going to prove this is actually totally wrong. This is not the answer for how we connect and don't connect. And I'd just like to challenge you with a question. When you think about all those people you are really close to, Say your partner, dear friend, colleague. How much does it happen that you feel misunderstood or that somebody doesn't understand you? Is it daily or not daily? And when you broaden that view and go to the people you meet every day, so like your colleagues and maybe your siblings, maybe your partner— I assume your partner if you have one— Your kids, maybe your dad, your mom. How is it then? What would be your number? How many times a day you're not understood or you don't feel that they understand you? Or maybe you don't understand them. The communication is not working. Who says zero? No. Once? Twice? 3 times? 4 times or more? 3 times. I see some people, really a lot of people, 4 times or more. Because all the people I connected with, it's actually 90% says 4 times or more, we don't feel understood, I don't understand them, we miscommunicate. So how is it possible, if this is the most important thing, it works so poorly? Because from the moment we're born, we're actually educated to communicate with our parents or brothers and sisters. So what's wrong? Actually, we're barking up the wrong tree. I'm going to prove you that this old hypothesis we had is absolutely wrong. We have a heart brain and a gut brain. So just imagine, where do you feel love? Isn't it here? Yes, you feel love here. And is it possible that that feeling of love can overrun your Logical brain, yes. Now you think about anxiety, anger, stress, rage. Where do you feel that? I already pointed. Yes, there. And is it possible that you're angry, rage, or anxious, that you do things that afterwards you regret because almost like you lost your mind? Yes, again. And actually, it is so logical because this heart has 90,000 brain cells. It's invented or came to us when the mammals came to this Earth 90 million years ago and they started to live in groups. Of course, they started to live in groups, they needed socialization, and the heart brain was there. 90,000 brain cells. It's the us brain. I love to call it the Labrador brain because Labradors are sweet cuddly dogs. Who doesn't love them? It's actually the brain of the social worker. It's the brain of the parent who wakes up 5 times during the night for their little kids. It's the brain of the firefighter or policeman who runs into a burning building to save somebody. Putting his own life at risk. It's the brain of the heroes we have, like the Nelson Mandelas, the Martin Luther Kings, the Gandhis, who really want to connect, be nonviolent, and bring everybody together again. Maybe you still remember that movie of Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio sacrifices himself for Kate Winslet. It's the brain that really connects us with others. Without it, we would not socialize. The other brain actually we have, as I said, is the gut brain. The gut brain, 500 million years old, is the first brain we actually had. When you think about sea cucumbers, yes, that's actually a gut brain. They're still there out in the sea. And that gut brain, 500 million years ago, Is still here, and what does it do? Survival. That means fight, flight, run, be hungry, be thirsty, food and drinks, reproduce. That's the main objective of it. It's the perfect me brain survival brain. It's the narcissistic brain we have. It's actually a brain. And I love to call sometimes the seagull brain. The seagulls, do you know the seagulls? When they're at the sea and somebody has something, that all the seagulls chase it to grab it from him or her. It is the movie Nemo, where Nemo is flying away in the beak of the pelican and all those seagulls are flying behind it and screaming, me, me, me, me, me, me, me! Me, me, me, me, me, me, me! Bam! End up in the cell but still screaming, me, me, me, me, me, me, me. It's that brain that the Rambos have to fight, the Terminators to survive, the Dark Vader to do all his nasty stuff. It's all about me. It's also the brain of the CEO, the entrepreneur. Who really works 18 hours a day to make it happen, to push his idea or her idea into this world, and sacrifices everything for it because they want to have it. It's that brain that makes the gold medal winner the gold medal winner, because without it, he or she would not put all that effort in him and her, all those training hours to get there. It's so important, that brain, to survive, to win, succeed.
