ICF San Diego Webinar THE 3 BRAINS CONNECTION: THE MISSING LINK FOR LONG LASTING COACHING RESULTS

In this 1.5‑hour interactive webinar, Christoffel Sneijders presents his "3‑Brains" model – head (neocortex), heart (cardiac brain) and gut (enteric brain) – as the key to achieving durable change in coaching clients. He argues that less than 50 % of clients sustain their commitments after a year because most coaching work addresses only the head, neglecting the heart and gut, which together drive emotions, survival instincts and subconscious belief systems. Sneijders explains the biological underpinnings of each brain (neurotransmitters, hormones, evolutionary functions) and illustrates how stress, procrastination, and decision‑making are governed by the interplay of the three brains. Through live exercises (placing fingers on the pineal gland, heart, and gut while stating one’s name) participants experience the distinct sensations of each brain, learning to detect which brain is dominant in a given issue. He demonstrates how coaches can use the model to diagnose blind spots, re‑align the brains, and facilitate lasting behavior change, citing client stories, references to Kahneman’s System 1/2, heart‑brain research, and gut‑brain microbiome science. The session also covers practical steps (somatic grounding, breathing, body awareness) to engage the heart and gut, integrates the model with NLP, trauma work, and other modalities, and concludes with an invitation to his 3‑Brain Coach Certification and further reading.

So that is very cool. Welcome, welcome, Cindy. So what are we going to do? What's my intention? My intention is to share my passion about how your 3 brains— and it's not the 2-brain we have in our head, but actually your heart brain and gut brain— how you can really establish long-lasting change with your clients. And why do I say that? Because most research shows that less than 50% of our clients are doing the things they I promise they do after 1 year. The fallback is massively— they are happy with us, but the real change is not happening. That's my passion to share with you in this little 1.5 hours. If you have questions in between, just ask them. Hey, my intention is not to show you 32 slides, although it is. My intention is that you really get something out of it. So help me to make your best. So who am I? And what can I bring to you? I will share one slide besides what Will said, who's me, so at least you can see it's a trusted source. One of the 3 blind spots we have to design long-lasting change, Q&A, closing, and a special gift for you because I know we're in America, so you like to have gifts. What can I bring to you? Now, Will said a lot. Just like you, I'm an executive coach. I'm a visiting professor also, what Will didn't know, at the business school. for leadership and behavioral organizational organization. I'm also supervising clinical hypnotherapists. So besides I treat people for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and all kinds of horrible stuff, I also supervise other therapists. I have 30 years— 25 years as a coach, 30 years experience of working. Based on the fact that I'm born and raised in Holland, Amsterdam, I emigrated 10 years ago to Australia I live now in Spain. I traveled the world for all my clients, and I'm the founder of the 3-Brain Coach Certification. There are only 2 people who wrote really a book about your head, your heart, and gut brain. Pitifully, the other person died 2 years ago. I say I'm the only one who now is still pushing forward all the new stuff. And I wrote the book How Men and Women Fit, Finally Understand— Oh, doesn't— oh, that's, that's a nice thing. If you don't see it, they're having a Grind Screen, we'll show it later. How Men and Women Fit: Finally Understand Your Partner's 3 Brains. What in my opinion is a groundbreaking book about how your 3 brains work, but also what does it mean in relationships. And we all have relationships, if it's now with your partner, with your kids, with your parents, with your colleagues, with your clients. Although it's written more from the partnership with your partner, it's applicable for all.
That's me.
And what I said here, our success is not what we want to have. Our happiness is good, otherwise our clients will not come back. But it always puzzled me, why do clients not follow up? Why do clients, even if they say and they said they changed, fall back? And actually, we do the same. Let me come back to that later. And although we do better than psychologists and much better than life coaches, we still don't reach the 50% long-lasting change. We do better than culture change projects that happens in companies because that's even less, but still for me it is not enough. So the 3 blind spots, and we touch on them shortly, and the solutions are later on. It's actually— and that's where many, many, many colleagues of us go wrong— there's a difference between change and new learning. And we come back to that in 2 seconds. We have 3 brains: head, heart, and gut. And that's what most people don't know. And we communicate most times when we work with people to the wrong brain. Het is like trying to find your keys for your house at the neighbor's house while you know it's in your own desk. It doesn't work. Now let's do some examples. Who's in charge? And I assume we all procrastinate somewhere, sometimes. So I'm just curious when you think about procrastination and you see already the whole slide there. Does it make sense to procrastinate? So you make a decision to do something. And when the moment is there, you look at your calendar, you see a to-do list, you think, you know, my laundry is still not done. Oh, I should email that. Oh, I didn't see that YouTube video about Bill Fisher. Oh no, I didn't send an email to Montserrat. Oh wow, I still should do that. And all those excuses are there and you don't do it. Does it make sense? No, because you made a conscious decision to do something And when the moment is there, you fall off the bandwagon. And we all do that. How many times don't you walk to the kitchen to eat something healthy and you end up walking back with cheese, chocolate, wines, or other kind of sweets or savories? Okay, who's actually then in charge and overrides your logical decisions? As a second example, stress. You know, maybe those people who say, I work the best when I'm a little bit stressed. I make all my presentations, proposals the day before, and stress, I work the best. What is actually stress? And I think, you know, stress is actually a response designed to fight or flight. What it does biologically, physically with us, it turns off The prefrontal lobes in your head, so your logical thinking is turned off. Your sympathetic nerve is activated, so it means all your blood flows go to your main muscles. Fine motoric stops, your digestion stops, and your breathing becomes more shallow. Your neck fixates because you cannot move your head anymore, otherwise your life is there. So actually, you turn off all your capacity to be creative. Does it make sense if you really like to do something amazing That actually what you do is you put yourself like in a state of rumble. Then you survive amazingly. But did rumble really create something amazing? Now we know how to survive. Okay, so we can conclude our head is not in charge. Our head can be overrun always. To be honest, if you come back later, your head is not strong enough to make any changes at all. In most cases, important things, it will almost never happen. Even if you're going into the Starbucks and think about what kind of coffee you have, you get a whole— you can have a whole discussion with yourself. I mean, will I take a cookie next to it or not? So literature, if you go to the McKinseys and the Bains and all those kind of companies, they say you need actually 3 things for change. You need to understand it, why you have to change. You have to be willing to change. You have to have the ability. And I have been saying that for many, many, many years. But I'm just curious, who of you— raise hands please— makes one of the resolutions on the 1st of January?
I do. I do. I gave up that years ago.
Okay, so okay, but this is even more— you gave up. Why did you give up, Montserrat?
Oh, because I know it's, it's just a fallacy.
I don't want to play that game with myself anymore because you don't follow through. No. So that means, that means 2 things or 3 things. Or you're totally incapable of making good decisions for yourself so that you all lying to yourself on the 1st of January, or somewhere inside you between the 3 and 6 weeks mark, inside you is actually killing your good intentions and you're not in charge to go on. To change behavior, habits, beliefs, emotional charge, and memories, they are extremely difficult and they're almost impossible to change if you only use willpower. I know there are extremely popular books like Atomic Habits and all those kinds of things, and if it was so freaking amazing true, the only thing we would do in psychology would be behavioral change like that, and the results would be much higher than the 15 to 30% they have. Why do they have 15 to 30%? Because psychology mainly works with the head, and the head is not the issue. The rest of your brains is the issue. If you don't believe me, just make a good intention, and after 3 or 6 weeks, tell me if you're still following up. I know for sure that half of you fell off the bandwagon, and it's not because you're weak, it's not because you're not capable of doing anything, but because you are programmed in your early years somewhere. To have different kinds of choices. So how do we learn? And that's where actually most people go wrong. We learn actually, if you read the book Thinking Fast and Slow, you can somewhere remember this, Daniel Kahneman, the Nobel Prize winner. We have— he calls it actually the System 1 that acts without thinking. Biologically, it is the automatic mode, the ego learning. 40% of our energy is used by our 3 brains. 40% of our oxygen goes to our 3 brains. 60% is doing for all the rest during the day. So your brains like to be extremely effective and efficient when they do something. They don't waste 1% of energy because at the end that could make the difference between life and death. If you run away for a saber-toothed tiger, or in America for one crazy lunatic who likes to do a mass shooting. Excuse my friends, but I saw the statistics of mass shooting in America yesterday, and I was just totally shocked. I said that that's a personal European opinion. It's just my opinion. But anyhow, the automatic mode is the law of association. So I'm going to do the test with you. What is this? Oh, you cannot see it. So you can see that. Yeah, you cannot see it. What's this? A cup. Coffee cup, teacup?
Coffee cup.
Coffee cup. Did anybody who gave the answer, did you ever have this cup in your hands? This is a crucet. So you know from the pens, crucet. This is a crucet cup. It's a coffee cup. It's a small one. You never had it in your hands, probably, and still you know it's a coffee cup. How do you know that? Association. This is the law of association. It looks like a cup. It has the size of a cup. It must be a cup. This is how our brains, all three of them, work. They see something that is Rather the same. If it's not a huge massive change, it is the same, and we don't look any further anymore. We do the same actually with things that are less good for us. So old knowledge is used even though it's not helpful anymore. Otherwise, if that was not the case, nobody would be obese or all those kind of stuff. We would just learn, but something inside that stops our learning because we believe it's true, even if it hurts you. I've been working with women who are abused by their partner, and most of those women still believe the guy can change. Now I can tell you, if a guy hits you He cannot change. You should just dump him in dumpster. And still they believe it. And they come back with a blue eye to me the next session and say, no, no, I just fell off. No, he didn't mean it. He was just frustrated, but he's a good guy inside. It doesn't work. Automatic mode is there. What's the optional mode? That's System 2 according to Daniel Kahneman. Is only when we really need to learn something new and there is no reference. That is something like you learn a new language. There is no reference, and everybody who once learned a new language knows it takes a lot of time to learn those words out of your head. I live now in Spain, have to learn Spanish, and I know German, Dutch, English, all Anglo-Saxon languages. They have a different grammar setup than the Latin languages like Italian, Spanish, and Greek. So it's extremely hard for me to learn that, this, because I cannot refer to anything, and it takes a lot of energy. And everybody who wants to learn something like that knows it. So it's only used when it's extremely needed. There is no other choice because it absorbs so much energy That our survival mechanisms could be in danger. To make that extremely black and white, you think, how do you mean survival mechanisms? Although there's no real survival nowadays, we don't live in the savanna anymore, for us, our systems are still programmed for that.
Mm-hmm.
So everything is done automatically unless there is low-order choice. And our heart and gut brain, my complaint, will stop your learning if they think it's not needed. If they don't— are not convinced to change, they will not change. They will just block it. As an example, why is my learning of Spanish slow? Because my clients are speaking English, my partner speaks English although she's Spanish, so there is no real need to learn it. So when I sit behind my Spanish books and I have them here I find all the reasons to procrastinate because my gut and heart brain say it's not needed to survive. Your clients speak English, your partner speaks English. Why would you just to order a bread? That's a pan. A coffee? I know coffee is a coffee even in Spanish. It's easy. That's how it works now. Besides this, we have 3 brains, and there's not a trillion brain to talk about, but it's different and I know this will come in not beautifully because I'm not— I cannot do it. I cannot do it in presentation mode. This comes slide by slide. But let's see what I mean with that. What is the old idea? That's that we have 3 brains in our head. Scientifically, it's proven every animal on this earth has these 3 brains, even they're less developed. A reptilian brain does not exist in us. A reptilian also has a limbic brain and a neocortex, only less, less, less, less, less, less developed, but it still has it. Genetically, we all have the same setup for our brains almost. What's the new idea? You already see it there. I also give the clue away, but what kind of living animal is this, do you think? What kind of living creature is this? Please, in the chat or somewhere else, just give me what you think. Do a wild guess. Everybody's silent. Okay.
Is that a sea cucumber?
Yes, Will! Yes, finally, there are some, some smartasses are there. Yes, it's a sea cucumber. What's the amazing thing of the sea cucumber? You see the headline, it does not have a heart or a head. It's a living animal. So now just use your own logic. If living creatures are there all around us who do not need a heart or a head, which brain do you think is the most important to have?
God.
God, absolutely, Monty. And if you forget everything from this presentation, keep this in mind: the gut is the most important brain we all need to survive. Of course you need your heart, otherwise you can't connect as a coach, but for survival you need your gut. In the world there are no animals only with a heart, there are no animals only with a brain. There are animals only with a gut. That's how we all came to this world. Secondly, oh, how do we make decisions? Oh, it's already there. Okay, it's nice if you have a different slide pack prepared because I'd love to— and do a stop share, by the way— I love to do a little exercise. We have a small group, so we can, and to make it a little bit more interactive. So I just said we have 3 brains, and you can believe me or not believe me, but let's now just test if we have 3 brains. And what I will ask you to do, I will just guide you through some questions. The only thing I will ask you to do is to sit straight up. Why is that? Because then your spine fluid can travel through your body and your nerve systems can also actually be activated. And please make yourself sit comfortable as well. See if your feet can be on the floor, if your buttocks are nice on the chair, so you feel at ease. And some people call that the coaching state, whatever name you like that, but just you feel it easily, but settle in, settle down. And I will ask you, and just give you the instructions so you don't have to do it, to use 2 fingers and you put them first Say on your on your pineal gland. Later on you put them on your heart. Later on you put them on your on your gut brain. I will just guide you through, and when you have your fingers on your head, I will ask you and to really to say it out loud. My name is, and then use your own name. Why is it important you say it out loud? Because the nerve systems get activated. If you just do it in your own head from Actually, everything stays here and you will not feel it somewhere else. Your nerve systems, cranial 10 nerve and cranial 8, 6, and 5, need to be activated. Those are nerves that actually connect with your face and also go through to your heart and lungs. So you just say out loud, my name is— you say your own name, first name or last name, whatever you prefer. You just go over here, what kind of response you get in your head. So I would say, my name is Christoffel. My name is Beverly. My name is Morty Koppes.
My name is—
just come out and just come aware how your head responds. And it is your name, so it doesn't have to be a massive response. Is that something like an aha? Oh, I did not know that. But you have a response. Now please put your fingers on your heart, and I assume you all know where your heart is. That's a little And just you can keep your eyes open or closed and just say it again. My name is, and then use the same name, please. My name is my tea cuppers. How does your heart respond when you say that? You don't have to share. Just come aware of it. If the same or not the same as your head response. Probably you don't hear words, but you probably come aware of sensations. Your heart could be faster, slower, get warm or not warm. Now last, now last but not least, please do 2 fingers for your gut brain. That's 2 centimeters underneath your belly button. I'm not going to show my belly button where it is, but 2 centimeters from the belly button, that's the first and second chakra connection almost point. And just say the same, my name is—
My name is Walter.
And just come over here, how that spot, how your gut brain responds, what kind of sensations do you get there?
Oh no.
And before, and before we go on, this is the second exercise. Who likes to share what, what she or he experienced?
Christoffel, can I just clarify where you put your fingers for the gut? Where do you—
where are you sitting? Okay, okay, okay. So here's my belly button.
Yeah.
And it's 2 centimeters underneath. Okay, below.
Thank you.
Okay, you just wanted to see my belly button, Sally. That's it. I did.
Now you know.
Good, good job, Naki's King.
And you were dying to show it.
Absolutely. You know how many crunches I do for this? No. Okay, it's there. Why is that? Say, for the people who know, say, the chakras, it connects your first and your second chakra somewhere, that spot. It is also where the Chinese or the Japanese or the Asians say where your chi point is, say, the chi energy. That's the closest where you can get it. And everybody's different because your belly button is somewhere else. If you do it on your belly button, you also get a massive response. And why is that? Because where did we connect to this life is with our belly button. That's also— but for a lot of people, the belly button is still a sensitive spot if they do it on there. That's why I always say 2 centimeters underneath your belly button. Who likes to share something that they just experienced with using their own name? Silence. Okay, Sally.
I'll go.
Um, I— when I was in my brain, I just— it just felt like, okay, I'm Sally, you know?
It's like, so yeah, it makes sense. Sally, it's good.
And but when I did my heart, I felt— I felt a lot softer. It's like, oh, You know, kind of like, oh, you know, I'm Sally, you know. And when I went to my gut, I felt grounded. Like, I'm Sally, you know, like I have power. Yeah. Yeah. Like, it's like, yeah, that's what I experienced.
Beautifully shared. And what actually happens, you become aware based on what you're saying, based on the connection you made, your heart area or your gut area, heart brain, gut brain responds. And they respond with sensations. They connect with what you say. If you're willing to do a crazy exercise, I love to do crazy. For people who had a nickname when they were young, you can use your nickname. So I was called Pof when I was young. I called myself Pof because I couldn't pronounce my whole full name. Yeah, so you can use that if you just like to take a risk. You just take a politician you really don't like. That's easy to pick in America. And why is that? Because then you have a positive emotion, his nickname, or you could choose— you can also choose a politician you like. Choose Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, I don't know, or somebody else, because it's a different name. And if you use a negative name, you will know for sure you get a response. If you get a positive emotional name, you could also respond to only a different one. It just likes to know what you like to experience. If you have your own name, your own nickname, you always get the response because when you were young, probably that nickname was used for you by different kinds of people. So you have a different kind of emotion with it. I just give you different options. And Modi, you're born and raised Dutch, isn't it?
No, French.
French. Okay, married to a Dutchman. Okay, okay, everybody makes mistakes. Kidding. No, no. So why is that? Um, if you are born and raised in a different language, then it could be fun if you use a nickname or a name you had in the past to use your own language, because your own language has a different emotional setting than if you use your learned language later on. So that will become French and maybe Spanish sometimes, it's totally okay. So if you have a nickname, use your nickname. If you like to make fun, you choose a famous actor or a politician or somebody else you like to have a connection with, or somebody you really admire. You could also use Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, I don't know. And just put your fingers there and just say, my name is, and then you use the name of the person you like to use or your nickname. So I would say, ik heet Poffen. And just say it out loud. Just come aware how your head responds when you say it out loud. Just please say it out loud. Don't keep it, don't keep it in your head.
My name is Kathleen.
Just come on and then take a deep breath and relax because Will is going to be fast. Put your hands on your heart and then say it again. My name is Kathleen. Okay, come over here, how your heart responds. Take a deep breath and go down with your fingers 2 centimeters under your belly button and say it again. And then come aware how your gut or that area responds, what kind of sensations you have. And I'm just curious, what kind of differences did you notice between your own name and the name you use now? How did your 3 brains respond to that? Who likes to share something?
Well, I had a stronger response to my nickname than I did My actual name, because I am a junior. My dad was senior and I'm a junior, so I was never called Walter. I was always called my nickname, so I had a stronger identity of the nickname.
Okay, and which brain responded really stronger on your nickname Walter?
Um, my head and my gut.
Okay, and your heart?
Yeah, same. It felt more true to me because my name was never Walter until I left the house. So it was always that.
Okay, that's also nice. Montserrat said, my heart felt— my heartbeat accelerated. I choose a famous journalist that I admire, and my gut brain felt agitated. And say, we're not going to here to right away analyze why it is, because we can jump into all kinds of assumptions. But it makes sense that somebody you admire, your heart will beat faster. And why your gut brain feels agitated, I don't know, right? That's something. But you will become aware of different kinds of emotions. Somebody else who likes to share it? And I'm always curious if somebody used— Yeah, well, when you did it in France, how was that? French, French, not France. You connect better. Okay, and which, which brain did you connect better?
Heart and gut.
Heart and gut makes sense because they are educated in our primary years of the first 7 years. So all the emotions and learnings you have the first 7 years are really stored in your heart and gut. So then the main language you heard there is used, and if Walter never heard this Walter in the first 7 years of his life, his heart and gut actually don't know different. Why this little exercise for you and sometimes for your clients to come over here? Hey, they respond differently. And the interesting thing is like this is just your name. And who of you have done kinesiology? You know, the muscle testing thing and those kind of stuff. It's just somebody. Okay, three hands go up. So probably, come aware that it looks a little bit like the muscle testing. It has the same ideas behind it. The only thing is we we dedicated more to the heart and the gut, so it's a little bit more precise. What happens now if you would have to choose something? What you like to eat, what you like to dress, if you reach your objectives, then probably it could be that your heart or gut will give you an answer. So as a self-test, what you can do, because otherwise can also put you in little groups, but there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 people with a picture, so I don't know if they're still listening or just already doing WhatsApp, FaceTime, LinkedIn, having a dinner. I don't know what they're doing. Walking the dog. Hey, Sally. So somebody feels, oh shit. So that's a hard brain person who reconnected because somewhere she feels guilty that she's not being seen. The other ones don't care. Kidding, joke. But if you use this test with an objective you have, you could find answers, or at least you come aware it happens. So a lot of times I could ask my clients to do this, but Sometimes not. And I ask, hey Chris, I like to, I like to have, say, a race this year. I like to finish that project. I like to know if I should do this project. I like to know if I have to fire that guy, not a person. And I'll ask them, the 3 brains. I'm going to fire Peter. That makes sense. I'm going to fire Peter. Oh no, he's a lovely guy. I'm going to fire Peter. Yeah, if you don't, you get sacked. Okay, and they come aware that actually the 3 brains are giving different answers. Yes, we're happy to have you, videos off or not. I know, Bill, you're a sweetie boy. I'm just teasing them. I know we were playing good guy and bad guy. So Bill is always the good guy, that's a good thing. So you can use it in those kind of things, and you will be astonished that your clients Come aware what's happening. If you talk about price negotiations, if you talk about other kinds of things, you come aware that they respond differently. Why is it so important? Say your heart says, um, I like Peter, I don't like to sack him, and your gut brain is neutral in this case. And not saying, okay, otherwise you lose your job, but the gut brain says, ah, I don't care, you can keep him, not keep him. Nobody knows. How easy do you think it is if your head says sack him and your heart says he's a lovely guy, don't sack him, that you will sack him? Your client will not sack him. He will be a Richard Branson. You know Richard Branson with Virgin Atlantic? You know the story that he was sent off out of his office when they had to sack people? Because if he would meet somebody in the elevator of an office and they were walking with the box He would rehire them on the spot because he could not see his family being diminished. He was— he's a beautiful heart-brain guy in that part. That's what your client will do, and all the logic you bring to the client will not help him or her on that moment. Now the question, how can we change that? I'm going to do— let me see, I can Choose virtual background. How did I do that now? That's always interesting. Share screen, slides as virtual background. That was it. Oh, I have to start all over again. Okay, that's okay. This one I didn't know if you stop it that it then starts all over again. That was not my idea. How did it go? Now we just discussed it. So now we've done all the things, let me introduce you to your 3 brains. I spoke a lot about them, but just give some content. What are they actually and what is now their objective? The gut brain is actually just like Will said, that, yeah, sea cucumber. Does sea cucumbers have friends?
Nope.
Does sea cucumber take care of their offspring?
Nope.
Does the sea cucumber care about you if you touch him? Nope. He will try everything to escape or poison you. Your gut brain is there for your survival. It's our egocentric, beautifully amazing survival mechanism. And so when you say to somebody, follow your gut, actually what you say, do what's good for you and don't give a rat shit about anybody else. How does your gut brain communicate with you? Via neurotransmitters. All the important hormones and neurotransmitters are produced in your gut, and serotonin, actually, your gut is responsible for 90% of that production. That's why everybody who has Parkinson's has a dysfunctioning gut-brain. Or gut. Dopamine, the reward for learning. Cortisol, the stress hormone for fight or flight. Adrenaline, which is action. Benzodiazepines, to relax. And of course, the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system. There's much more like the gut bacteria and all those kind of things, but I don't go there for this short presentation. I have to sit like here because then you can see actions. What does your gut brain like to do? Just like that little sea cucumber, it likes to escape to survive. It likes to fight if it needs to. So in the fight and anger, I would say look at your previous president who still thinks he's president for the people who live in America. And you see anger and rage, that's his default state. Reproduce. Now ask all the people who are paid off by him about his lust and desire. And of course, he likes to eat and drink. Now if you look at your previous president for the Americans, you also know he has— he's overweight because he just likes to eat. He has an extremely strong gut brain. That's why he's became also president. He's a survivor. The gut brain is not negative. The gut brain makes you achieve. Most of the coaches need sometimes a little bit stronger gut brain to really take care of themselves. The gut brain takes care of you. Your gut brain says, no, I'm busy. Your gut brain says, not now. Your gut brain says, these are my boundaries. The gut brain says, like in the soap series Suits, Get out of my face. It's an amazing brain. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here. But it has also some downsides of its own. What's your heart brain? And all the research is coming from the second brain, Dr. Michael Gershwin, who said we have 500 million neurons in our gut, something the size of your dog or a dog. The second is your heart brain. Cardiologist André Moore came aware of that also 30 years ago. He proved that there are ganglia, white matter, neurons, dendrites in your, in your heart. The same content as we have here. What does your heart want? It wants the bonds for survival. Why is that? Just think when we are born, how much of survival chance do we have if our parents or caregivers do not take care of us? We last for maybe one, maybe two days if we're lucky. Our whole survival mechanisms is actually based on the fact that our caregivers/parents take care of us as a baby. We do everything that our parents love us. Of course, also mama gets a massive shot of oxytocin to love her kid. Daddy gets also part of it. There's a mutual thing, but babies do everything to be sweet to you. Maybe you know that I have 3 kids. The whole night they're awake because they get tooth or something else. The whole night they keep you awake. In the morning, you walk to their room after being awake for 6 6 times and slept maybe 1 hour. You have maybe some primal thoughts about what you like to do with your little one. You come in that room with the pillow in your hand, okay, this was your last moment, you scream, you little bastard. You look at the little one, he gives you a brilliant smile, and instead of using a pillow, you lift him up, cuddle him, and say, you're the sweetest boy or girl I ever saw. That's a survival mechanism of the little kids. They know exactly how to bond with us. If not, they would not survive keeping us awake for one week. Your heart loves to connect. How does it do it? Oxytocin, the love hormone, is not only produced in your head but also in your heart, in the veins of your heart. Dopamine reward, norepinephrine to put you in action. Also, when your heart beats, doof doof doof doof, it sends information to your whole body. For the people who say, yeah, but isn't it your limbic brain in charge, your amygdala? For those people, I would say, did you know, past tense closed question, that your amygdala actually 7 milliseconds after your heart beats Sparks up after every beat of your heart. Seven milliseconds later, your mitral sparks up based on the beating of your heart. It gets instructed by your heart what to do or not what to do. That's why heart math versus heart coherence is so important to ease down your whole system, because then the signals to your mitral become more at ease. What does your heart brain do more? Connecting for love, connecting for people, protect. That's why we also sometimes hate somebody. It values— and I see it's a spelling mistake— the connection. That's why we also have sadness. It reconnects, and we have all the values of good and wrong in our heart. That's why we coaches have a big heart, because who else would listen to all those stories of all our clients? Over and over again, they say, "Oh, that is so interesting what you're saying." Why you already know you heard this story twenty times from other clients. You make them feel special. You make them feel heard. You make them actually feel loved. That's why you're so freaking amazing as coach. You have a heart brain. Last but not least, our head brain, also an Beautiful wonder, or if you're religious, God, otherwise evolution. 100,000 million neurons. Every neuron has 5,000 to 10,000 connections with others. The amount surpasses the stars in the Milky Way. What does all this here do? Only a few things. What its main objective is predicting the future. Survival. It likes to think, understand, and give you an answer. Is this right or wrong to do? Because if you know that answer, your survival is higher, your success is better. That's why when people are anxious, they ruminate so much and they overanalyze so much and they cannot fall asleep because their head is busy Predicting where, what should I do in that future event? Your head likes to give an answer for something that will happen tomorrow, and it doesn't know. But your heart or gut finds it so important that it signals to the head, give me answers. And your head, the best soldier in the team, will run the extra mile to give you answers. Hence, it keeps you awake. What does it do more? And this is extremely important for coaches. It's the only part of us that knows past, present, and future. Your heart doesn't know yesterday. Your gut does not know tomorrow. Hence, when we do binge eating, binge drinking, fall in love, we don't think about consequences. Only after we did it, we think, oh, I shouldn't have eaten that whole bar of chocolate. But most times after it, oh, that one drink too much was one drink too much. After, not on that moment. I shouldn't have fallen in love with that person. Oh, that was really painful. He or she broke my heart. After the situation. Why is that so important? That means when we coach people and they have an issue in their heart or gut brain, that's actually everything that is our belief systems, Important events. Everything you believe is connected with your heart or gut. There is no belief system that's only in your head. If you have to change them, they believe it's now. PTSD, post-traumatic stress syndrome, is actually stopping in your head your past, future, and now. It fixates the events where you have the post-traumatic stress syndrome from In the current state, it turns off future and past. So everything is still happening in the body. Everybody who did trauma work, what I did, knows that the trauma stays in the body. This is the muscle memory and all this kind of stuff. It is awareness. We know we're here. Database of memories, language, of course, can activate the limbic brain for neurotransmitters, and we can think ourselves happy or not happy. We can get nervous when we watch a movie. We can get nervous when we watch a soccer game or American football game or the elections in California. Oh, the recall that's happening in California now. We can get nervous about it when we just see it. And we can influence our autonomic nerve system based on our breathing. And the autonomic nerve system cannot be influenced unless we use our breathing. That's the only part that is done by the autonomic nerve systems. And you can regulate. Why is it so important? Every inhale activates the sympathetic nerve. Actually, exhale activates the parasympathetic nerve. That creates relaxation in the body and mind. It creates the balance back again. That's what your head brain does. Amazing wonder it is. Oh, I should present. Why is it so important for us as coaches? That's what about it. You don't— what is blocking long-lasting results? Decision made by one or two brains, not three. When they don't communicate with each other, they stay reflectively loyal to an old behavior or belief that could cause them pain, even when it works against them in some context. That means you eat the whole chocolate bar. That means you stay with an abusive partner. That means you don't follow up your 1st of January resolutions, and even you don't make them anymore months ago because you know will not happen. For us as coaches, it's important to know this is the logical part for a client. The heart thinks about them and you and bonding, and the gut thinks about me. So if they have a topic on the table, Their 3 brains think from 3 different kinds of objectives. Does it make sense? Is it good for their relationships with people? Is it good for me? And depending which brain is the strongest, heart or gut, they go with that answer. So, and then for us coaches to make the second step, we communicate to the wrong brain. Just some examples to make it easy. What happens? Let me say it. If your heart, your head, and your gut are not aligned, there is no change. And we regret afterwards, I should have thought it through, I should have followed my heart, or I should have followed my gut instinct. And how much, how many times did you not say that to yourself? I should have followed my gut instinct. I should have followed my heart. I see Sally nodding, so we can shake hands. Let's say we're friends. Or I should have thought this through. And that's because one of your brains were in that moment dominant and chose for you. It doesn't mean you're stupid or whatever. It just means on that moment in time, all your resources inside thought this is the best. And because you did it a couple of times, before you know it also becomes a habit, then becomes even stronger. The more you do it, the stronger it gets, just like a muscle. So the harder it becomes to change it. What wires together— what fires together wires together. The law of HUB in neuroscience. So it means If the firing is failure, you'll learn more failure. As the wiring is success, you learn more success. So every failure we make learns us not to do that and creates a stronger pull or push, whatever you like to say, to keep you away from there. And our clients, of course. Now, just as a little example, how does it work? Say we have coaching. How could we, as a simple way, become aware how your 3 brain thinks? Now, this little example. This is a real client. He said to me, the stakes are extremely high with this project. I will, I feel I will damage my career seriously if I go for this. I feel my colleagues totally depend on me for this project, and that's not a good feeling. I don't like that feeling, Chris. And the last thing he said, but I think it makes sense the CEO asked me for this project. I know the most about the topic. I'm the expert in the company or on this topic. I'm the guy to go to. So he asked me, Chris, what should I do? I said, hey, I'm a coach, I don't give you an answer, but let's come aware what's happening. You're all coaches, you heard somewhere the presentation. Which brains do you think are talking now? I will give you a hint because we still have a Q&A later on. This is actually what happens. Oh, sorry, Walter, I'll go back right away.
I'm sorry, gut brain is one for sure.
Yes. The first one is the gut brain. So if you look at it, the gut brain says the stakes are extremely high. I damage my career seriously. That's fear. Fear is gut brain. I feel that my colleagues totally depend on me. It's not a good feeling. The heart is that colleagues relationships, but it's not a good feeling. So it will stop it because it doesn't like that feeling or it doesn't know what to do with it. The only one that was in favor was was his head, because it made totally sense to me would be the project. So when we— and he was talking actually to some other people, I will not say other coaches, because this was really important for him because the CEO personally asked him to take this project on board. So there was also— well, it's not in here— the CEO asked me, Chris, that's why the The stakes are so extremely high. And he spoke to some other people, they all said you have to do it. And everything, every time they said you have to do it, or are you capable, can you do it, do you have the resources, all the logical answers were yes. But they could not get him through there until he met me, because one of his colleagues said, why don't you talk to Chris? He's a good coach, he helped me, and he will take it from a different angle. I spoke with him Actually in the cafe, and I just point this out for him. I said, "Your heart is not in it, and your gut is extremely afraid to damage it." So I think your gut feeling is feeling shitty, and probably you have issues with the toilet too much or too less, and you have issues digesting. And he looked at me and said, "How do you know?" I said, "I run to the toilet much more than ever." I said, "Because your gut brain is totally upset. It is in a fear state." And if you are escaping, actually digestion stops because you don't need all of that. Just like people who go into the airport and have a fear of flying, they go to the toilet 5 times. I said, so as long as that fear is inside you, you will not move. Short story, long story short, we worked actually on the belief system why he was so fearful. what made him so fearful. So the only thing I asked to him later on, I said, could you go to your CEO back again?
Of course.
I said, and just ask him, um, what will happen if you cannot deliver this, if it will backfire on you or not, and that you're willing to take it, but you like to feel safe. Actually, in my coaching call, he called the CEO, said, I'm now with my coach. He asked me a thing I'd like to ask right away. Am I safe when I take this project? Because I know it's extremely important, but there's also extremely high stakes. There's a— there is a huge chance we don't deliver. Am I safe? And the CEO, really short temper, but could be Dutch, said Of course you're safe, otherwise I wouldn't have asked you, dumbass. And click down the phone. What do you think that happened with my coachee? He felt totally relieved. All the issues of his gut brain were disappeared. He still had to work with his colleagues and that fear, but he took on the project. Because the CEO called him 2 minutes later and said, by the way, I forgot one thing. I can take the— did your coach say to take the project or should I fire that guy? On the speakerphone. Made me a little bit nervous, I have to say. He said, of course I take it. When I'm safe, I take it. And it was all done. It's a little example and an easy change. I thought we had also food in there, but I don't have the food example here. That is boring. Of course, there's a beautiful example also for people who love food and how our 3 brains work on that. Probably I hide the slides as an extra depending on time, but I cannot see my hidden slides now. So when we work, we work also in declarative memory above the iceberg as coaches. Where the changes happen is actually non-declarative memory underneath the iceberg, and that's where we have to work as the things. If you'd like to know more, please connect with me. Can I— I can also show you the examples of the food story, but it's in the hidden slides. I don't know how to show it in this moment. Questions and answers. And before we go there, a gift to you. I do a training, 3 Brain Code certification training, 4 days or 8 half days. I would say freaking amazing, awesome. That's not because I say it, because I do it, because that's the response of everybody who followed it. Recently, or half a year ago, an MCC with massive amount of experience who I felt really from— she's in my training, actually introduced me to Fiverr for clients. In Spain to say you need this guy. That was the best result from UK. It works. It's a 250 in total, 250 discount. So it only makes it something like 1,400 or 1,500 US dollars to talk in dollars if you also use this code. 3 brain coach. Why I show it here? Because you get the slide pack, but it's also in the video recording, so at least you see it. Now that's the sales pitch, and as being Dutch, I don't like to do a lot of sales pitches because that doesn't fit in our system. If you'd like to know more, these are readings I can say to you. The Second Brain, Michael Gershon. Trauma Memory for Peter Levine, he's a trauma expert. Science of the Heart, HeartMath Institute, of course my book. That gives you some insights, some extra meat on the bones. Now to the most important thing, and I can do a stop share if I know how this works. Yeah, there we are. Q&A, your questions. We still have, say, 25 minutes. I hope I inspired you. I hope I provoked you. I hope I gave you insights. I hope I also created a lot of questions of you, so just shoot in a gentle way, please. What would you like to know? Don't tell me I silenced 2, 4, 6, 10, 12, 13, and 14 amazing coaches, because then really— can I have recording? Can I have recording? You will. I silence 14 coaches.
No, we're ready to go.
We're ready to go. Can I ask a question? Yeah. Yes, please.
So when you're working with a client and you see that one of their brains, it's, or 2 of them are not on board, and you see it, let's say it's the gut in some kind of like fear, or it's the heart, do you break down the concept for them? Or do you just focus on, you know, coaching to that part? You know, like, what is your strategy when you notice that, you know, like, they're having a hard time making a choice and you can see that, you know, they're struggling?
It's an extremely good question, and I didn't put in the slide pack because I thought then I really run out of time. There are 2 ways to approach it. So in that example I showed, is it the situation, is it the issue that is just situational? So can we solve it in the situation per se? We don't have to come to all the kind of things where it's coming from, so we don't have to change the belief. Can we change the situation? That's what actually happened with that CEO. We just changed the situation. We didn't change his belief systems that he was a frightened person because he had so many issues actually with failure, because he failed his final exam in school. He failed his final exam on university and he failed another kind of exam. So he had a fear of failure when really the stakes were high. He didn't work on that at all. So first of that, I'm going, where is the situation resolved in the situation, or is it really the belief systems or events that happened in your life that actually make it worse? If you think as a general dominator, a lot of people think I'm not good enough. Now, if you think I'm not good enough, it will affect a lot of parts of your life. Now, we can work on the topic I'm not good enough, as everybody knows that's a huge topic to change, or we can work in a situation. Now, if it's needed, we work, say, on the other things. As being also a therapist, I can sometimes do a sidestep, and that's why they also hire me. Say, Chris, you're a coach, my mentor, my therapist, whatever you like, just fix me. Don't ask me 20 questions, do something, even if I have to close my eyes. Now, most of my clients don't say that last one, but they're happy with that. In the coaching, also as I do in the training, we do it in the coaching way because you can also work on belief systems and high impact belief in a coaching way, and that ICF approves, that EMCC approves, For me, the question is the situation, or should we tackle really what's causing it? And I always ask the client because it's not for me to make a choice. I hope that answers your question as good as I can.
Yes. First of all, just wanted to point out the chat. There's a couple of folks looking for your email, looking for Or a link to your offer. Are you able to throw that in the chat?
Yes, of course. Yeah, I love my famous last words. I love my famous last words, of course.
Let's just get in there before, you know, we're running out of time or something. But I also have a question too.
Yeah, just shoot, in a gentle way of saying.
So as I mentioned, I do a lot of NLP and timeline therapy work. And so I talk a lot about the unconscious mind.
Yes.
And I just wonder how this work relates to unconscious thoughts and the unconscious mind. If I had to guess, the unconscious mind would be located in the heart and the gut. And I'm just curious what your thoughts are on that and if I'm guessing correctly or where you take this.
You could not be more spot on, Bill, because in my search, I just did do the same. I also did NLP master and all the things, just like Reiki masters like you. So we have a lot of similarities. I've been teaching 20, about 15 years, conscious mind, subconscious mind, the little iceberg I showed you.
Yes.
But I came aware actually our subconscious is from 19— now, okay. for at least 90%, your heart and your gut brain. Why I say 90%? Because it is influenced by the spiritual, by quantum physics, by your gut bacteria and other things. And so, but in normal life, your gut brain and heart brain are actually your subconscious, because our subconscious are our feelings, our emotions, our belief systems. And that's actually all of that. And that's also what I came aware of Van hey, that's where we have to find the solution. And I say, and it makes sense because if you think about the iceberg theory, do I have an? The iceberg when you look it up in Google, they say ten percent is in charge above the water. That's your conscious awareness, what you know, what neuroscience calls declarative memory. I can declare it. I know it. They say the subconscience is beliefs, emotions, values, experiences, painful events, and that are actually all things that are stored in your 3 brains or in your heart and gut brain. So when I came aware of that, based on trauma work I did with Peter Levine and others, I came aware, wow, now And now it becomes easy because your connection emotions, your relationship emotions are actually centered in your heart. Your survival emotions and everything that connects with it are centered in your gut brain. And if you know that, you can talk or connect with them in a different kind of layers.
Yeah.
And actually, you don't have to talk about survival if it's the heart. So, so for me, the subconscious does not exist anymore. So as being just like Montserrat, a hypnotherapist, I don't talk about we're going to talk to your subconscious. I say I'm going to talk to your heart or and on your gut.
Okay.
Because you feel that pain in your heart, isn't it? And you say, oh yeah, I feel the pain in my heart. Okay, so We don't have to talk to your little toe. No, we don't have to talk to my little toe. So almost like, who did parts therapy in NLP? You know parts therapy? Oh yeah, parts therapy. Parts therapy. Now it has, if you talk about the heart and the gut brain, it's almost like doing parts therapy in NLP. Hey, let's put your heart brain and your gut brain there. Let's just have discussion with those 2. That's actually almost how you could play with it. In part therapy, we say, who is supporting the idea? Who's actually sabotaging the idea? And we let them talk.
Cool.
Really cool.
Does it make sense, Will?
Yeah, it totally makes sense.
I see the light bulb coming up.
Well, this is exciting because it really layers on this other work that I do that I've been really excited about. And then what I hear is possible there too is Being more specific. So I often work with my clients' unconscious minds or their subconscious, and I speak to them. And in this, in this new knowing, I could potentially speak more directly to that part of their unconscious.
That's true, because if you ask clients, is this issue more in your heart or your gut? 9 out of 10 gives you an answer without even knowing that you have a heart or gut brain. And the same in NLP, we ask, where's it located in your body? You know, they give you an answer. Everybody who's nervous feels it in their gut. Everybody who has a broken heart feels it in their heart. And so, and it's almost sometimes puzzling for me, it's not new science because open your Spotify or iTunes, half of the songs are going over broken hearts or that you fall Love again with your heart. The Bible shares about it. The Egyptians shares about it. There is no new wisdom in it. Only science proved it. And for for some strange odd reason, I'm one of the only persons who talks about it. What makes sense because neuroscience always focused here. More people. What a question.
More people will talk about it.
What are the questions you have?
Hi, Christoffel.
Hey, Liliana.
2 questions actually. So the first one, very interesting, you— our coaching, you know, efficacy or efficiency work. You said at the beginning that actually the rate, the success rate of change is kind of low. Do you have some some kind of data on when you actually talk to the 3 brains, how does it move the needle in the success rate?
I don't have data, only my personal data, because not a lot of people work with this. But for me, say, and then I have to split hypnotherapy, I put it aside. If I go to coaching, I will tell you a story of a client, Of a client who actually hired me in Madrid. He has been working with a coach, and that coach also followed my training. And she actually said, "Go to Chris for your team in Madrid." And he said to me, "He said, 'Chris, she's an amazing coach.'" I said, "But I would have loved that she had known the three brains sooner. We worked one year for some topics; we couldn't get through it." She comes back. I said, "I learned something strange and new. Would you like to explain?" Experience it, and he said, "Yeah, why not?" It's about three brains. Where's your issue located? Your heart or your gut or your head? And the guy, my God! She worked it, and he says to me, "Well, we have that coffee." That was actually a wine, but I like to say coffee because we're in Madrid, so that's most times wine. He said, "My issue was solved in two sessions with her. We worked one year on that." Now, in those stories I heard many, many times from my own coachees the same. So, but I will say that's not fair because the observer— I'm the observer and doing it, so how objective can I be about my own work? But if I listen to other people also when they follow the training and we have supervision session to talk about it, you always talk about massive things that happens with the coachees. Listen, one of the coachees, MCC, massive experience, he said When I cannot get through a client nowadays, I just use the 3 brains. She says it works amazingly. I just say, the issue you're talking about, is it in your heart, your gut, or your head? I said, and all my clients, high-paid executives, they look at her. Sometimes I ask, what did you say? Is it in your head, your heart, or your gut, your issue? She said, and then the whole story breaks up and it gets a totally different shift because coaching, we talk about more deeper things, other things. I said almost all my coachees are jumping off the roof and are referring me. So that's not data, but there are more examples. I'm still trying to do my best to get data, but it's still extremely limited. So it doesn't fit actually for official research. It's hard to do official research because they should do a blind test.
So my second question We'll say, so that makes a lot of sense. And it's kind of obvious, and especially obvious to how do you engage the head.
Yeah.
But then when you see, okay, and so what, you realize that the problem is in the gut brain or is in the heart brain. How do you help your clients? Really, how do you work so that the heart and the gut are engaged With the head?
Extremely good question. Uh, say it goes a little bit too far to say everything here. That's not because I don't want to, but also based on time. One of the first things is actually that you get your client in the state that you can access it. Probably as you know, and we're all men except Walter, Bill, and myself, most men are really up here, or say underneath the belly button. To make it extremely simple, they're thinking with two parts of their body, not so much Mr. Heart. So the first thing you actually have to do is to get your client really aligned that they can feel actually. A lot of clients, if you ask, can you feel really your body? A lot of clients say no. They're just been in the business world to learn to be here. And so most first step is actually that they start almost doing somatic work. Getting aware that they have a body. And when I ask, hey, if you put your feet on the floor, can you feel the floor? A lot of my clients still say the first time I meet them, they look at me and say, my feet on the floor, can I feel my feet on the floor? Yes, that's what I ask. What's the answer? And a lot of my clients said, I know my feet are on the floor. I know my feet are on the floor. Yeah, but can you feel The connection between your feet, maybe your shoes and the floor. And a lot of them really have to take a couple of minutes to come aware of that because they're totally not used to doing that anymore. And that's step one. The second step is then based on this, based on other things, yeah, I say start communicating with the heart and the gut in the way we did here or in different ways. So they start accessing that wisdom, ideas, problems. Sometimes a heart, one of the brain spots in the heart or gut are blocked, and it can be based on belief systems. And as an example, if you're extremely religious, your system is not open to think in different ways. If you're believing another kind of things and have extremely strong belief, your heart or your gut brain can actually be closed off. that cannot be accessed. If you had a highly impactful event, sometimes called trauma, but even can be upbringing or just school period bullying, then your gut brain or your heart brain can be closed off. Everyone who has been bullied or has been sexually abused or has been in another kind of abuse knows their heart is actually closed off to really trust people. And so that heart cannot be open on that part. So if they then ask, hey, you work with your team, how much can you really rely on them? Their heart does not dare to give an answer anymore because it's closed off. The gut brain actually takes over and says, no, no, we don't go there, we don't trust anybody anymore. So then you have to work actually to unblock those brains and say, I mean, the training we We do some coaching exercises. How can you actually do that? How can you let the heart, the gut, or the parasympathetic sympathetic nerve system start communicating or activating again? There are some little exercises how you can activate the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nerves so they can actually turn off and become normal organized again. One of them, of course, is breathing. Let your client just breathe in and breathe out 10 times. Massive experience they have, but there are also other ones that are more profound. I hope I answered your question without going in all the details because look at the time. I think before I know, I'm going to in a training mode in the next 2 hours. You're busy, Lydia. Love to do that, but I think everybody else says, hey, look at my time, I have a client. But that's the thing.
Okay.
Get them in feeling, get them communicating, and come aware if they really can communicate. If not, we have to do something about that. And it can also be done with somatic work. People who did timeline, that's what we did. If you did constellation work, you come over here, then you can work with it partly. If you did somatic work, you can work with it partly. Only in those situations, they're not focused on heart and gut. They can alterate it to heart and gut exercises if you know how. all the questions in the time we still have. And of course, you have my email, and I just checked it— there's my glasses on— if I typed it correctly. Do it again. christoffel@peelacademy.com. If you have any questions or something else, please text me. My passion is to share this. My passion is to get you excited. My passion is not to get you in the training, because I only like to have people there who really like to learn it. My passion is to get you excited and make you think every time you see a client that life is different for you. And why is that? Because if you make your clients amazing, you make this world a better place. And we don't have recall anymore in California. I know it's not allowed to talk about politics, but Dutch people who know that love to talk about politics.
Chris, I just wanted to say, just aside, I don't know exactly your methodology, but somebody who has been working for many years, many, many years, with this idea of the 3 brains. It makes any— for me as a therapist, I mean, I didn't know it when I was a therapist, but once I learned this, it has made a tremendous amount of difference in everything I do. Because when you understand this schematic, it helps in everything. It's helped in my coaching. It's helped in my teaching. You know, I teach leadership development.
Yeah.
It's helped. everything I do. It's a— I'm just shocked that more people don't know it. I don't understand that. It's beyond me.
It's the same for me, but I still remember I was discussing this with a brother-in-law of mine, and he's an engineer. And he said to me, really serious, Chris, you have to stop talking about this, during dinner, but really in a tone that was like, oh, what did I do now? He said, if this was right, what you said, everybody would know I don't know it, it's not out there, so it's not true.
Right, yeah.
I said, hey, I said, I said, they said a couple of hundred years, they said the same about the Earth is flat and the Earth is round and the solar system. People got on the— got, got burned for that.
Yeah.
He said, it's not true. I said, he loves wine. I said, give me your most expensive wine you love. And he said, brand I don't know, '82 whatevers. I said, I buy you the bottle of wine Next week you're going on Google and come aware about this. You Google it. If I lose, you get that bottle of wine of €150, almost $200. I said, but if I win, you buy it for me and we drink it together. Long story short, 2 weeks later, we had a beautiful bottle of wine bought by him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No. And, and you know what else? This is another thing that's kind of hurt this theory of the 3 brains. is this whole people, people being in love with neuroscience and neuroleadership. They focus back up on the brain. So everything is back up on the brain. Every leadership program has a picture of the brain. They don't talk about the heart. They don't talk about the gut. So this, this whole fad or the whole research on fMRIs and this has actually taken us back.
Hmm.
in this idea that there are several scientists have been trying to put it forward and it's just not getting through.
Thank you so much. I'm happy you said mantra because if I said, I'm the priest who's saying God exists, so that is not always reliable. But I'm happy you say it. And I always go to people, you know, I went to Stephen Gilligan in San Diego. Go to a trauma therapist. That's why I also have the book of Peter Levine or read the bookie The Body Keeps the Score from Bessel van Kolk. Oh yeah, Bessel van Kolk is a psychologist, psychiatrist. The Body Keeps the Score is one of the best-selling, uh, therapeutic books. It's about his life, but also he is teaching at Harvard Medical University. Yeah, he says actually the body keeps the score.
Yeah.
And if you like to do something else, go to Gabor Maté, When the Body Says No. Actually, he doesn't talk about 3 brains, but he says when we don't keep our boundaries, your body will say no. Actually, what he says, your body makes a decision, not your head anymore, to get chronic diseases. There's massive science out there, but as you said, it's there.
Right.
That's hence my passion to go to every ICF chapter and do my chat.
Well, thank you, Christoffel, so much. Your passion shines through, and what incredible information you shared with us today. I know I feel fired up and inspired to learn more and to start incorporating some of these learnings into my work. I want to just give you a round of applause for really—
