Major contractors hand subcontractors deliberately unfavorable contracts expecting negotiation. If you sign without pushing back, you expose your personal assets to massive risk. Negotiating earns respect and gets you a safer deal.
Chapters
Main contractors actually expect you to negotiate the contract. They're not looking for some guy that they can steamroll over. They give you a contract, you sign it, you put your own house on the line, and then you go away and deposit. They feel more comfortable, they respect you more if you know the game. The game is they give you their worst contract. It's crazy bad. Some of the stuff that they're asking there is terrible. You come back and then you negotiate. It goes over and back. It's a dance, and then you negotiate a contract. That's what they're expecting to see. That's what all the big companies do. So you need to do that too, because if you do, They respect you, you'll sign the lower risk contract. If you don't, you're gonna sign a terrible contract that puts your own assets potentially at risk, and it's just not good for staying in business over the long period of time. Subcontractors Edge talks about this in detail.
