Bless Me And Leave Me Alone

A recorded monologue by Myron Golden (YouTube video "Bless Me And Leave Me Alone") that interprets the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15) to critique an entitlement mindset summarized as "bless me and leave me alone." Golden draws practical lessons about the need for boundaries, the timing and cost of wasteful living, repentance (moving from a "give me" to a "make me" attitude), and the proper use of wealth (love people, use money). He interweaves personal financial testimony, theological points (salvation vs. religion; correct reading of scripture about wealth), and pastoral exhortation toward gratitude and responsibility.
Chapters
Have you ever met somebody who. It seemed like good stuff happened to them all the time, but somehow or.
Another, they were always in crisis anyhow.
Have you ever met somebody who had all the reasons in the world to win, but somehow they found a way to lose? Have you ever seen somebody who. It seems like everything was given to.
Them, but they never had anything?
That's what we're going to look at.
In this story today.
We're going to look at people who've.
Been broken by a blessing.
Here's what it says in Luke 15, verse number 11. And he said, he being Jesus, a certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. We know this is the story about the prodigal Son. And because we know this is a story about the prodigal son. When I first started studying this, I'm.
Like, why do we call it the story of the Prodigal Son? Because the word prodigal, Prodigal means wasteful.
So he wasted what he had when.
He didn't need it.
So he didn't have what he needed when he needed it. And it says.
And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine.
In the land, verse 14.
And he began to be in want or in lack.
And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country. And he sent him into his fields to speed into his field to feed swine.
Swine are hogs.
And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat, and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, how many hired servants of my father's have bread enough to spare? And I perish with hunger. I will arise and go to my father, and I will say unto him, father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee. And of no one more worthy to be called thy son, make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and he came to his father. But when he was yet a great.
Way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
And the son said unto his father, father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the Father said to his servants, bring forth the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet, and bring hither the fatty cap and kill it. And let us eat and be merry. For this my son was dead and is alive again. He was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.
Now his elder brother.
I'm sorry. His elder son was in the field. And as he drew nigh unto the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of his servants and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted calf. Because he has received him safe and sound. And he was angry and would not go in. Therefore came his father out and entreated him. And he, answering his father, said, lo, these many years do I serve thee.
Neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment.
And yet thou hast never. Thou never gavest me a kid that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
And he said unto him, son, thou art ever with me, and all that.
I have is thine. It is meet that we should make merry and be glad for this.
Thy brother was dead and is alive and was lost and is found.
This story is so interesting.
It's an attitude of ingratitude, the level of which seems abnormal until we look in the mirror.
It seems abnormal until we look into every crack and crevice of our society. This young man came to his father. Here's what he said. He said, bless me and leave me alone.
How many people have a bless me and leave me alone attitude? How many husbands have a bless me and leave me alone attitude to their wives? How many wives have a bless me and leave me alone attitude to their husbands? How many children have blessed me and leave me alone attitudes to their parents? How many employees have blessed me and leave me alone attitudes to their employers? How many employers have blessed me and leave me alone attitudes to their employees? We don't even have to talk about the government, right? They say, bless me with taxation, but leave me alone about representation. And our whole world seems to be permeated with people who have this ideology, this philosophy, this way of being that says, bless me and leave me alone? This story is such an amazing, beautiful picture parable parallel to the lives of almost everyone you've ever met in one.
Way, shape or form.
The first part we see in verse 12, here's what he says. It says, the younger said unto his father, give me the portion of goods.
That falleth to me.
And he divided unto him his living. And not many days after, the son gathered all that he had and took.
His journey into a far country and wasted his substance with riotous living.
The first thing we see in this story is the request for the blessing.
And the rejection for the boundaries.
Isn't that how people live? Give me the blessings, but don't give me the boundaries. Like, give me all the good stuff, but don't tell me what to do with that good stuff. Like.
Children grow up in a house where they're with loving parents. Is like, bless me with a house to live in, but leave me alone about cleaning up my room.
Can I get a witness?
It's like everywhere. Bless me and leave me alone. It's such an odd request, but it's so prevalent. He wanted the rights without the responsibilities. He wanted the blessing without the boundaries. He wanted to play without the pay. But life is a pay to play game. If you don't pay, you don't get to play. Because if you play before you pay, you're going to have to pay after. And if you pay after, it's always going to cost you more than if you pay before.
The request for the blessing and the rejection of the boundaries. See, people think they want ultimate freedom. Like, I just want absolute freedom. There's no such thing as absolute freedom. Absolute freedom does not exist for human beings. Freedom from one thing is bondage to its opposite. We learn this if we go read Romans, chapter 7. We learn that freedom from sin is.
To be bound by righteousness.
But freedom from freedom from righteousness is to be bound by sin. You just got to pick what you're going to be free to do and what you're going to be bound by, because everybody's going to be free and bound at the same time. Freedom denotes boundaries. You can't have freedom without boundaries. The reason, like, can you imagine.
Me going home and I walk in my house and my next door neighbor is sitting at my kitchen table eating my food, bruh. That's why we got walls and doors and stuff. I won't talk about some of the other stuff we got, but if you don't get up out of here, we gonna have a problem.
Like, do you understand? The only reason we can drive down the road is because of boundaries. They got yellow lines to keep us off the median. And then they got, unless you're a Florida man. And then we got, then we got.
Then we got the dotted lines to keep us in our lane. Again, unless you are a Florida man, he was on our side of the road. But if we didn't have lines, it'd be total mayhem. It'd be absolute chaos. The only reason we can have freedom is because we have boundaries. Now it seems like a lot of people in our country have forgotten that you can't have a nation if you don't have national boundaries. And I know a lot of people don't. Like, like, like talking about that. And then that's so political. It's not political. It's just logical. It's just life. There's a reason your house has a doe on it.
And you the only one with the key. There's a reason.
Freedom can only exist inside boundaries. And if you get rid of the.
Boundaries, you get rid of the freedom. Well.
The second thing we see, we see.
Verse 13. Not many. Verse 14. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in the land, and he began to be in want. We see.
Riotous behavior and the ruin.
Of bad times when you waste your substance.
It's so amazing how the recompense of.
Waste has perfect timing.
It comes when you least expect it and when it can do you the most harm.
I'm going to tell you something. That's why I live a very simple life.
I mean, I've got a couple of extravagant things, but compared to the extravagant things I could have, I don't have them.
You know why?
Because I lived really close to the edge before, and I fell off a cliff, and it took me seven years to climb back up with broken bones.
I said in the video we just recorded a little while ago, people who have financial problems, they think they have.
Financial problems because they don't make enough money.
But they have financial problems because they don't manage their money well. And oftentimes they don't make more money because they don't manage the money they have well.
I literally, I was making 70,000, 100,000, $150,000 a month. I thought I was a baller. And because I had been doing it so long, I thought it would last forever. Let me tell you something about stuff in this life, none of it lasts forever.
Here's what the scripture tells us about wealth. Certainly riches make themselves wings and fly away as a bird toward heaven. That's why the Bible tells us not to trust in wealth.
Bible doesn't tell us don't create wealth.
It just tells us don't trust it.
Don't lean on wealth, don't love wealth. How many of y' all are tracking?
But it doesn't tell us not to leverage.
Says, don't lay it up for yourself.
But Myron, the Bible says, like.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth where moth and rust are corrupt and thieves do break through. And steal is not a license to.
Be broke and lazy.
And not all broke people, not all.
Lazy people are broke, but all broke people are or will be. All lazy people are or will be broken.
Part of it just, it goes hand in hand like wisdom and wealth go hand in hand.
Anyway.
The recompense of waste has perfect timing. And as soon as I had my.
$350,000 worth of cars.
On notes that.
Were not a problem to pay for and as soon as I had my million dollar house with an $8,500 a month house payment.
They created the great recession.
And I refused to participate in it.
I participated in a great recession if only my clients had refused.
And I found myself living in a.
House that I couldn't pay the note and driving cars that I couldn't pay the note. And I said, I will never do this again.
It's not that I'll never borrow money again.
I borrow money right now. We're looking to anyway, that's a different conversation for a different day. I don't have time to go into it. We're looking to use a whole lot of debt this year. The more the merrier. But we ain't gonna have it use us.
And it ain't gonna be to accumulate a whole bunch of things. It's gonna be for everything's gonna have a purpose anyway. Y' all get it. The recompense of waste has perfect timing. The recompense of waste has painful timing. I am going to tell you something that I have found out firsthand. When you go from being the richest person you know to being the poorest person you know. Because now not only do you not have the money, but you got the debts that go with the money you.
Used to have and you don't have the income that goes with it.
That is not fun. I will not subject myself nor my family to that ever again.
I'm going to play as far away.
From the edge as possible. And Myron, are you going to buy a mansion?
Are you going to buy a jet?
Probably one day, but it ain't going.
To be two day.
And when I do, I will never.
Borrow money to buy anything that I couldn't pay cash for unless it's an income producing asset. Anyway.
The recompense of waste has very penetrating timing. It knocked me out. Went from having Good credit and the ability to buy anything with a signature to.
Having to pay first month and last month's rent and a security deposit because my credit was so bad. I couldn't rent a house otherwise.
I know what that feels like. Went from, like, finally getting my car paid off and then going to one of those payday loan places, one of those quick and easy loan places. Now I understand. He said, I'm gonna go back because.
The way I behaved before I left and the way I've acted out here.
I don't even deserve to be my father's son anymore.
He said, I'm just gonna go to my dad. I'm gonna say, dad, I'm not worthy to be your son. Just make me one of your hired servants. He remembered the bounty. And then he resolved to better his circumstances. Where he was, was not who he was.
You bought into the idea that your.
Surroundings and your environment.
Is what makes your identity. Don't buy the lie. It costs too much. You are so much more than the environment you are in. So much more than the experiences you're having right now.
He said. You know what he said? Where I am ain't who I am. And somebody like me don't have any business being in a place like this.
I'm out of here.
He realized where he was, was not.
Who.
Feeding hogs, wishing he could eat their food.
That's cray cray.
Ryan, can you close that door for me, bro? Those kids are having fun over there.
Thanks.
Thank you, sir.
Riotous behavior in the ruin of bad.
Times.
We see the rejection of bad.
Company and the reality of boundlessness. A life without limits is a life without luxury.
Like you have to. God made it so that as adults, we're supposed to put restrictions on ourselves. As children, our parents put restrictions on us. Why? So we can learn to put those restrictions on ourselves. So that way you don't end up a child in an adult's body who reacts to everything and can respond to nothing.
A life without limits is a life without luxury.
A life without virtues is a life without virtue.
Like, if you're not doing good things, you are not going to have a good life. You can't go through life and do bad things and have a good life. You know what? I just want to do all kinds of crazy junk and have a good life. Good luck with that.
A life without morals is a life without morale.
But as he sat there thinking, what am I doing?
See? He remembered who he was. He remembered the family he came from. He remembered how good he had it in his father's house when he thought he had it so bad. Do you understand?
When we are ungrateful for the good that we have, that is the thing.
More than any other thing that causes us to waste what we have. And as soon as it's all gone, we'll wish we had it back. But it's too late.
What? Too late for him. He's like. He's sitting there. You know what he said? You know what? He started remembering the bounty.
And he remembered how good the people.
Who worked for his dad had it. He's like, what am I doing?
I'm out here starving. And he said, my father's servants have leftovers. My father's servants have savings accounts. And I'm out here starving in a foreign country wishing I could eat hog's food.
I know what I'm going to do.
I will arise. By the way.
How many times in.
The Bible, the Bible talks about, rise.
Get up, rise up and walk. I will arise and go to my father.
Do you understand that? The natural progression of a child of God is upward.
The natural progression of a child of God is upward.
But when we resist growing upward, we're at the same time resisting going upward. See, we want to go upward without growing upward. It don't work, y'.
All.
It's never worked for anybody who's ever lived. It ain't gonna start working for you. It ain't gonna start working. Cause I got here. Well, I tell you what, why don't you just make some new rules now that I'm here? Good luck with that.
He remembered his father's servants. He remembered his father's supply. He's like, my father is rich. He said, you know what?
Now I get it. Now I understand. He said, I'm going to go back.
Because the way I behaved before I left and the way I've acted out.
Here, I don't even deserve to be my father's son anymore.
He said, I'm just going to go to my dad. I'm going to say, dad, I'm not worthy to be your son. Just make me one of your hired servants. He remembered the bounty. And then he resolved to better his circumstances.
He realized where he was was not who he was.
He realized that what he was going.
Through was not where he was going to see.
Sometimes what happens, we get ourselves in a tight situation. We get ourselves in an uncomfortable, negative, painful, uncomfortable situation.
And we think we're going to be there forever because it feels like we've been here forever.
This ain't that.
He said, this is a place I had to go through.
So I could become a person who.
Don'T have to go through this no more.
I know. I know that what happened in my.
Life between 2007 and 2014, I had to go through that to never go through it again.
But I'm telling you, some of you.
Are in like financial pain right now. Some of you are in relationship pain right now.
I am telling you that where you.
Are is not who you are.
And the thing that you are in.
Right now is what you're going through.
God sent you to go through. David didn't say, yea, though I go into the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. I didn't know what he said. He said, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
I will fear no evil.
Who people say you aren't doesn't define who you are. I'm going to tell you something. I know my jacket fell on the floor.
It'll be alright.
It's just a jacket and it's just a floor.
I had polio as an infant. I couldn't run. It was easy for people to see what I can't do.
It was easy for me to see.
What I can't do and everybody else could do it.
And it seems so simple when they do it.
I couldn't run, so I got picked last.
But you know what? That was really good for me. Didn't feel good. It was kind of hurtful. People called me names. I remember when I got my leg stretch operation When I was 13, I was in seventh grade and I was in a cast for six months and I was at school on crutches and I'm coming down the steps and I was very good on crutches. I could walk on crutches without even using my feet, just my hands. Like I was the skill master on some crutches.
Anyway.
Some kid pushed me down the steps on crutches.
Oh, kids can be cruel.
It is what it is.
Don't feel bad for me. I needed to grow through that.
I needed to grow through not being like everybody else ever.
Maybe that's why it was so much.
Easier for me to discover who I am.
I never fit in anyway. So attempting to was a waste of time. Like I saved so much time that other people waste because it wasn't going to work anyway.
By the way, every disadvantage has its advantages.
When he left home, he had a give me attitude.
He said, give me the portion of goods that fall to me when he.
Came back, he didn't have me give me attitude anymore. You know what he had? He had a make me attitude.
He left home. He said, give me the portion of.
Goods that cometh to me, that fall to me. When he came back home, you know what he said?
He said, father, I am not worthy be your son. Make me as one of your hired servants. You want to live a good life? Stop focusing on what you're going to get and start focusing on who you're going to become.
It'll make your life exponentially better.
I discovered a long time ago.
In the world, there are basically two classifications of people.
There are makers and there are takers. And takers hate to make.
They even hate makers. Takers hate makers. They just love all the stuff that the makers make.
And they resent makers for being makers.
And it's amazing to me how other people. Well, and they say stuff like, well, if I had your money, I would.
Yeah, but that means you're pretending to.
Care about the cause you're pretending to care about. I actually care about the ones I care about.
Even if the ones I care about.
Are just having a nice car and a nice house.
At least I really care. Because you say, if I had your money. But you don't care about the things you're pretending to care about. Enough to go get enough money to give what you say you would give if you had it. But you know what I should do with my money?
Okay, let me know how that turns out for you.
Instead of seeking to get all we.
Can get, let's start seeking to become all we can become.
He remembered the bounty. And then we see the repentance of a broken life. He said, I will arise and go to my father. I'll say to him, father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee. This young man came to an awareness. He realized that all sin was against God and just in front of people.
Wow. That's an amazing awareness.
That amazing awareness. And he said, I'm going to go tell my dad I got the speech prepared.
Dad, look, I am not worthy to be called your son.
Make me as one of your hired servants. But when he was on his way back, his dad saw him while he.
Was a long way off.
And his dad, he was walking home to his dad, getting his speech ready. His dad saw him. He said, boy, that boy that looked like my boy.
He got up and he ran to his son. He fell on his neck and he started kissing him.
I'm so glad you're back.
And guess what?
If that were me, I might have changed my story. Right there.
He's this happy to see me.
Maybe I don't need, you know, that speech.
Maybe I just need to. We'll use that for a different campaign. That campaign speech. We don't need that one no more. But you know what?
Even though his father was glad to see him, he still said the same thing. Father, I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants. You know what that means. He really repented. He wasn't repenting to get something. He was repenting to become someone.
God will not make excuses for the man who makes excuses for his own sin.
God will not make allowances for the man or woman who makes allowances for their own sin.
I believe man is basically good.
Well, then you believe God is basically a liar.
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There's none righteous. No, not one. There's not a just man upon the earth that doeth good and sinneth not. The Bible is clear. Man is not basically good.
Man is basically a fallen, sinful creature.
Who needs a redeemer. That's not fallen and sinful.
We see.
The reception of a beloved Son, the Father, when he saw him, he said, take the best robe and put it on him. He suited him up, put the ring on his finger. He sealed him up, put some shoes on his feet. He shot him up. Shod S h o d, not S h O t. Okay. Just want to make sure. Feet shod, okay? That's what we do to our feet. We shod them. Okay. I guess it's past tense of shooed, anyway.
And then he said, kill the fatted calf.
He satiated him.
That's the reception of a benevolent Father. This is a.
This is such a beautiful picture. When we repent and we realize that.
We can only be covered by the.
Robe that God gives us. And that's Christ righteousness.
When we realize we can only be.
Sealed by the seal that God gives us, that's the spirit of God.
When we realize that we can't do it ourselves. Religion is going to end a lot of people up in hell.
I mean, a lot of religious folk in hell talk about, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name cast out demons, and in your name we've done many wonderful works. And then here's what he said. Then will I profess unto them, I never knew you not. I don't know you anymore. I never knew you.
Depart from me, you workers of iniquity.
God is not impressed with your religion. Mine, your next door neighbors, my next door neighbors, the man down the street, the people down the road. God is not impressed by anybody's religion.
Anyway, just thought I'd share that.
By religion, I mean you believe there's.
Something you can do to appease God for your sin. That's what I mean when I say religion. In case you're wondering. Okay.
And then we see the regrets of a bitter brother. He said, dad, what you doing?
What you doing?
I don't no, I ain't coming to my brother's party. Why you having a party for him? All these years I've served you, I didn't transgress one time your commandments.
You never gave me a kid so I could have a party with my friends. But as soon as your precious son came. Did you notice that he said that as soon as this thy son has come.
He didn't say, this is my brother. He said, this thy son. You killed for him the fatted calf. Okay.
Did you notice that he said that as soon as this thy son has come.
He didn't say, this is my brother. He said, this is thy son. You killed for him the fatted calf.
The regrets of a bitter brother. He regretted his service these many years.
Do I serve thee? I'm working like a slave. He's out there wasting your money and this is what you do for him. What are you going to do for me? He regretted his standards.
Neither transgressed I at any time, thy commandments. I've been faithful to all the things you've taught me.
And he regretted his siblings return.
I mean, boy, don't that remind you a lot of church folk? You know.
What you doing?
What are they doing here?
See, the reason y' all laugh is because, you know, that's how. That's what church. I don't know what they think they doing up in here. I just saw them at the club last. Okay, you saw them at the club? What you doing here?
Okay, I'm just checking. Just checking.
But we see the reassurance of a benevolent father. He wasn't angry with his son for feeling that. You know why? Because he got it like he's like I used to be, a son. Let me help you understand something, son. He gave his son reassurance of his security. He said, thou art ever with me.
Like.
He said, you're forever with me. You've been my constant companion. I love the fact that when God.
Saves us.
By repenting of thinking that.
We'Re good enough and Trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ when we receive the gift of salvation that only God gives us. Salvation is not a gift we give God. Salvation does not come by you giving your life to Christ. Giving your life to Christ is something you do in response to salvation, but it's not something you do for salvation.
I know preachers say it all the.
Time, but it's heresy. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It's a gift God gave us, not a gift we give him.
And it's eternal.
It's not temporal.
It's not temporal life. It's eternal. It lasts forever.
But you can lose your salvation when it wasn't salvation.
I know a lot of people don't like talking about those Bible doctrines.
John, chapter 10.
My sheep hear my voice.
I know them.
They follow me. And I give unto them eternal life. And they shall never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them to me is greater than all. And no man is able to pluck.
Them out of my Father's hand.
I don't know. That sounds pretty eternal to me. I give unto them eternal life. Well, if they could lose it, it wasn't eternal. It's just Bible that's just in the Bible.
I didn't put it in there. It was in my Bible when I.
Got up this morning.
The reassurance of security, Thou art ever with me. The reassurance of substance, he said, she.
Said, thou art ever with me. And all that I have is thine.
I got nothing to worry about. God said, like the Father said all that.
Do you understand? Okay.
There are a lot of people who.
Believe a lot of wonky stuff about the Bible because unfortunately, most pastors and preachers today are proof texters. They don't teach the Bible in context of itself.
God's not going to be right about.
Heaven and wrong about everything else.
If the Bible is true, then it's.
True all the way through.
So we conclude that money is evil because the scripture says the love of money is the root of all evil. The love of money is the root of all evil. But it doesn't mean when it says.
That, it does not mean that the.
Love of money is the root of every single solitary evil in the world.
The key word in that verse is.
Not.
Love, and it's not money. The key word is the word all.
And the word all does not mean every single solitary does not mean that.
The love of money is the root of every single solitary evil in the World. It means all kinds, all types, all manner. It means people will do all kinds, all types, all manner of evil when they love money. They will sell drugs to kids. They will traffic children for sexual. They will sell cigarettes. By the billions of dollars, pharmaceutical companies will treat diseases that they know how to cure because there's more money in the treating of the disease than there is the curing of the disease. The love of money is the root of all evil. Doesn't mean the love of money is the root of every single solitary evil in the world. It just means men will do all types of things, all manner of things, all kinds of evil, because they love money. That's what the verse means. It doesn't mean that the love of money is the root of every single solitary evil in the world. But if we don't know that, right?
The scripture says, labor not to be rich. Okay, but the same passage that says that in context says, put a knife to thy throat if thou be a.
Man given to appetite.
So what does that mean? Every time you eat too much, you should cut your throat? Well, clearly it doesn't mean that. But you have to start at the beginning where it says, consider this. When you sit in the presence of a ruler, the same passage that says, labor not be to be rich. It's telling you how to behave in the presence of a man of means or a woman of means. All he's saying is, don't try to get your hands in their pocket and don't think you're there for the food.
But we take stuff and lift it out of context, and then we want to make a whole doctrine out of this little isolated time. The Bible says this one thing, but, Myron, the Bible says that a rich man can't entertain. Go do. I already did a whole Bible study on that. I don't have time to do it right now. Just go watch my video on the camel and the eye of the needle. You'll see exactly what it's talking about in its context. We got to stop proof texting the Bible. It means what it means, and it can never mean what it's never meant. It can never say what it's never said. And there are no isolated doctrines in Scripture.
Okay, I got a little rantish.
He said, all that I have is thine. I'm going to rant again because.
We have this idea that God wants his people to be broke as a joke and ready to choke, confused. How could that be possible when the scripture tells us clearly that the sidekicks of wisdom are wealth and Abundance and a good life and joy. The scripture says that we can have durable riches and righteousness if we have wisdom. It's in the Bible. I didn't put it there. It's the result. It's not the objective, but it is the outcome. The objective is the wisdom, but the benefit is durable riches and righteousness.
If God wants me to be broke, then he also wants me to be lazy. And he also wants me to be a glutton. And he also wants me to be a drunkard. Because the glutton and the drunkard shall lie down together, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty. Open thine eyes and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. Like if God wants me to be broke, he wants me to be drunk, he wants me to be lazy, and he wants me to be a glutton. If I'm going to read it, let's read the whole thing.
The first time the Bible mentions the word rich, you say, why are you talking about this? Because the Father said in the story, all that I have is thine. He's giving you the reassurance of substance. A lot of people, because Christ has been so misrepresented by churchianity, a lot of people don't want to have anything to do with God because they think God wants them to be broke as a joke and ready to choke.
That's not in the Bible. The very first person the Bible tells us was rich was the was Abraham.
When his name was Abram. The first time the word rich is used in the Bible, it wasn't talking about Nimrod.
Wasn'T talking about Ahab, wasn't talking about Jezebel. It was talking about Abram. It says, and Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, in gold. It didn't just tell us he was rich. It told us how rich he was. He was very rich. And it told us how he was rich. He wasn't just rich in righteousness, he was rich in cattle and silver and gold. The blessing of the Lord that maketh rich and he addeth no sorrow. What do all these verses mean?
They have to mean something.
And we have to look at them in the context of the entire canon of Scripture, not some little isolated verse that some preacher took out of context and made up three points and philosophical ideas around and screamed about it for 40 minutes.
He said, all that I have is thine.
David said, I have been young and now I am old. I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.
He gave him the reassurance of security. He gave him the reassurance of substance. But he also gave him the reassurance.
Of the significance of receiving his lost brother.
He said, it is meet that when this thy brother has come, the son calling your son, the father calling your brother.
It is meet that when he has come that we should kill for him. The fatty calf. What did it say? It said, all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry and be glad. For this thy brother was dead and is alive again and was lost and is found. He said, you missed the point. You thought it was about the stuff, but it's not about the stuff. It's about your sibling. It's about the people. I've said this before. I'll say it again.
Don't love the money and use the people.
Love the people and use the money. Take it to its ultimate extreme and use the money to love the people. It'll make your life better. I remember Jim Rohn used to say, he's like, man, if a man came.
To me on the street, he asked me for.
He asked me for some money, and I think, should I give him the dime or should I give him the quarter?
He said, I realized a long time ago that I should give him the quarter.
And not the dime because of how it makes me feel. And then he said, you can't believe the good feelings you can buy for a quarter. Well, that quarter today would be $10. But still, the point is the same. Use the money to love the people.
After church on Sunday, when you go.
To a restaurant and you boss the server around like they're.
An indentured servant.
If you're not going to leave them.
The big tip, please don't leave them a check. Please don't leave them a gospel tract you are misrepresenting.
Go through life with a better attitude than bless me and leave me alone.
Let's go through life with an attitude.
Of gratitude instead of an attitude of ingratitude. And I'm sure we will be glad we did. Thanks for watching. Have a blessed day, and we'll see you on the next video.
