Don't The Don'ts & Do The Do's - Bible Success Secrets

Myron Golden teaches James 1 on enduring trials and resisting temptation by knowing your identity in Christ. He distinguishes external temptations (world, flesh, devil) and emphasizes spiritual disciplines like meditating on Scripture. Golden argues you must stop the don'ts before you can do the do's.

Father, thank you for your word. Thank you. That it is truth. We pray that you'd open our eyes, that we would behold wonderful things out of your word. In the name of Yeshua, Amen. All right, we're live on YouTube.
Welcome, YouTube.
We're glad to see you guys out there and glad to see all my peeps live on YouTube for the first time. I think this is my first time ever going live on YouTube. I may have done it once before with somebody else, but I'm pretty sure this is my. My first time ever going live on YouTube, but it will not be my last, I assure you. So I.
Want to welcome you to Bible Success Secrets. A couple weeks ago, when we had our Bible study, we were talking about. We were talking about from James Chapter one, every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. And cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there's no variableness, neither shadow of turning, which I think is.
Or actually verse 12. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation, for when he is tried, he shall receive a crown of life, which the Lord hath prepared for them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, that I am tempted of God. For God cannot be tempted with evil. Neither tempted he any man. But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin and Simone is finished, bringeth forth death. And then it says, do not err, my beloved brother. In other words, do not get off track. Do not get off the path. Do not get off of the way, right? Because wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction. And many there be that go in there at narrow is the way and straight is the path that leadeth to life. And few there be in that go into that, few there be that go in there unto. So what we want to do is we want to make sure we stay on the way. It says, do not err.
So when we talked about.
When we talked about blessed is the man that endureth temptation, it's interesting that the Bible in James chapter one, it's talking about enduring temptations, right? It's talking about temptation. It's talking about. It's talking about trials. In the beginning, the first part of James is talking about trials. We get down to verse number 12, it starts talking about temptations. And then we get down to verse number 21, it's talking about the transformation of the Word. And so that's what we want to make sure we have happen. We want to go. We want to go through our trials victoriously. We want to. We want to have victory over temptation victoriously. And then we want to have transformation from the word. And so we talked about how the fact that there are two types of temptation. I'm going to give you a quick review since this is the first time on YouTube, there are two types of temptation, two categories. There's external temptation and internal temptation. External temptation means somebody tempted you with something. They offered you something that was. Or. Or an opportunity to do something that you should not have done has presented itself either from some person or something. Well, the reality is external temptation is just that, it's external temptation. But the problem is not the external temptations. The problem is the internal temptations that we have that match the external temptations that are presented to us. So if somebody, for instance, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. So for me, somebody offering me a cigarette is an external temptation, but there's no internal temptation, right? Because I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. I hate the smell of alcohol. So somebody offers me a you. When I go out for a drink, I drink some water, I'll drink some apple juice. But I don't like. Alcohol is not a temptation for me. I quit drinking when I was 11, right? So alcohol is not a temptation for me. And so with that regard, it's an external temptation, but not an internal temptation. Now somebody pushes me. Somebody, like. Like, jumps in front of me if somebody, like, is threatening me. And now there's an internal temp.
I got a little bit of those.
Kind of internal tempt all up in here, you know what I'm saying? So I just pray that the Lord will lead me not into that temptation, but deliver me from that evil. Can I get a witness? And so we understand that with regard to internal temptations, there are three types of internal temptations that come from three different places. Inside of us, we have three different internal enemies. They are the world, the flesh, and the devil. Right? The world tempts us in our ambitions. And when I say our ambitions, the reason we have a lot of the ambitions that we have is because we want people to think a certain thing about us. And I submit to you that it is always a dangerous thing to need people to believe something about you. Like when you understand that you are who you are and who God knows you are, and therefore who people think you are should be of no consequence. Just own your identity and let that be that, right? So the world tempts you in your ambitions. The flesh tempts us in our appetites. Appetites mean anything that we do that are going to satisfy the flesh. It could be food, it could be drugs, it could be alcohol, it could be sex, it could be pornography, it can be anger, anything that's a fleshly appetite, when we feed it, it satiates us temporarily, right?
That's the internal temptation of. Or it's an external temptation also. External temptation of the flesh. But if an external temptation of the flesh tempts me and I have no internal match for that, then it's just an external temptation. And then the last one is the temptation of the devil that tempts us in our attitudes. And the primary attitude that that is a temptation of the devil is a temptation of the attitude of pride. Because Satan wanted to usurp his authority over God. He wanted to rise up and take over the throne of the Most High. The very first temptation that Satan tempted man with, yes, it was a temptation to focus on lack. But he told man the thing that I believe that he. He told Eve that really deceived her. He said, if you will do this thing, you will be more like God, right? And because we are made in the image of God and we are an Aleph dalad mem, Aleph that spells Adam in Hebrew, Aleph dal. So Aleph is the letter that represents God. Dalef mem spells the word blood. So we are a godlike creation with flesh and blood. That's who we are as human beings. That's men and women. The word God called their name Adam. Adam later called her name Even I know I'm giving a lot of foundational stuff, but we're going somewhere with this. So for people who are new, I'm giving a little background. So understand that Aleph dalad mem is the letter that represents God. In the Hebrew, Aleph beit daled mem is the word for blood. We know the life of the flesh is in the blood. So as an aleph dalad mem, we godlike creature with flesh and blood. But our objective as a man, as a woman, our objective is to make sure that the Dalit mem part of us, that the flesh and blood part of us is yielded to the spirit part of us. And that the spirit part of us is in control and that we don't attempt, we don't allow our spirit to try to elevate itself above God's spirit, right? These seven things that the Lord. Six things that the Lord hate, yea, seven are abomination to him. The first one it names is A proud look, right? And the reason God hates pride is because you have nothing to be proud of. People say, are you really proud of your children? I'm thankful for my children, but I'm not proud of them. And I know they don't mean any harm by that, but we have to be very intentional with our words. Are you really proud of your business? I'm thankful for my business, but I'm not proud of it. Because the reality is, even though I know that I've done the work to build this business, the ability to do the work was a gift that I received that had nothing to do with me. It was a gift that I received.
Like the fact that I have cognitive.
Reasoning sometimes in my brain. That is a gift.
Right?
The fact that my eyes can see and my mouth can speak and my ears can hear, those are all gifts. And I know how to open my eyes, but I don't know how to make them see. So blessed is a man that endure temptation, for he shall receive a crown of life which God, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Now, let no man say when he's tempted, I'm tempted of God. We already talked about that. Here's what's amazing about Christ about Yeshua Hamashiach. He was tempted in all points, as we are yet without sin. What does that mean? That means he had all of the external temptations, the temptation of the world, the flesh and the devil. If you go back and read in Matthew chapter four and Luke chapter four, you will see that Satan tempted Christ in the arenas of the world. The flesh and the devil. Right? You say you're God. Prove it. Like, jump off of the pinnacle of the temple, and if you don't die, then we'll know you're the Messiah. Christ was not interested in proving that he was the Messiah to anyone. See, a big part of our temptation, like.
As human beings, we want to prove to people that we're the man. I want to prove to you that I'm the woman. I want to prove to you that I'm the one. Like, get over your need. You are not free. You are in the bondage of what you think somebody else thinks about you. As long as you need somebody to believe something about you, you are not truly free until you have nothing to prove, nothing to lose, nothing to gain, and nothing to hide. Then and only then are you free. And so what happens is, Christ was tempted in the world. But he said, take these stones, turn these stones to bread. Well, that's the temptation of the Flesh. Right. And then what's the temptation of the devil? Bow down and worship me, and I'll give you all the kingdoms of the world. That's the temptation of the devil. Worship the devil. Satan again. Trying to usurp his authority over God. But see, here's what it says in Philippians, chapter two. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Allow this mind to be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God. What does that mean? That means Christ knew who he was. He understood his identity and owned it fully. Who, being in the form of God, he thought it not robbery to be equal with God. In other words, he didn't think he was doing something evil because he thought himself to be equal with God. But even. Even though he was equal with God, he made himself of no reputation. What does that mean? He didn't need people to think anything about him. But he was made in the likeness of men. He was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, what did he do? He humbled himself. How did he humble himself? He became obedient unto death. He became obedient? How? Obedient. Obedient unto death.
That's pretty obedient.
Even the death of the cross, wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that if the name of Yeshua, every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. So what's my point? My point is resist those temptations. Okay. Then it says. Then it says.
Do not err, my beloved brothers.
Don't get off track.
Here's why. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Now, I love what it says after this.
So, first of all, every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, right? So every good thing that you have in your life.
Every good thing that I have in.
My life is a gift that God has given me.
Do you understand that depression is a form of ingratitude? Do you understand that bitterness is a form of ingratitude?
It's not that I'm not saying the.
Things that you're bitter about didn't happen.
I'm not saying the things you're depressed about aren't real. I'm just saying you're more focused on the things that are making you depressed than you are on the one who is the prince of peace. Who can help you eliminate that depression. You are. You have a choice.
You don't have a choice in what happens to you if a loved one of yours. I got a call from a friend of mine from many decades. This past week I messaged on Facebook that her niece was murdered in her.
Front yard in front of her father.
Murdered. Right. He. That's not. She didn't have any control over that. My friend wasn't even there. Now, she didn't have any control over that. But here's what she has control over. She has control over what she's gonna focus on.
I had polio as an infant. I didn't have any control over that. So I could focus on the fact that my left leg doesn't work that good, or I can focus on the fact that my right leg does. I have a choice. The choice of focus is mine.
The choice of focus is always yours. You can decide what you are going to focus on.
I got bad news from the doctor.
Well, you didn't get bad news from.
The doctor last year.
You got bad news this year.
So you had all last year to be thankful for.
You got bad news and one day.
Like that wipes out the whole year.
A whole 20 years. A whole 40 years of good news.
One bad news from a doctor.
I'm not saying it's not real and.
I'm not minimizing your problems. I'm just saying thou wilt keep him.
In perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee. We need to be focused on the Lord. That is greater than any problem we face. And if we do, if we're more aware of the presence of the Lord than we are the presence of whatever the threatening thing is, we will be able to build an ark in the desert, even though we've never seen a raindrop. We will be able to. We will be able to run towards a giant when everybody else is running from them. We will be able. We will be able to. To. To stand in the presence of a sea of humanity who are all bowing.
Down to a false God and worshiping irregardless of what happens to us when the king says, turn up the fire seven times higher than it needs to be heated. I'm going to kill you seven times.
Dead than anybody's ever been killed. Like, if we are more aware of.
The presence of the Lord when. When the Nebuchadnezzar's of our lives say, I'm going to throw you into that fiery furnace. And who is that God that shall deliver you out of My hand. Like we don't have to answer them with our mouth, but our testimony can let them know that I am willing to sacrifice my life because my God whom I serve. This is exactly what they said. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us. But if not, see, here's the problem with modern day Christianity.
The modern day.
The problem of modern day Christianity, modern.
Day churchianity is unfortunately, most pastors think they're motivational speakers.
Most preachers are giving you motivational talks.
Instead of giving you the word of God.
And I am not motivated.
I'm not motivational enough to help you.
If I don't give you the word.
Of God, I am leading you astray. And I am here to let you know that your best chance of achieving anything in this world is for you to put into practice the practical application.
Of the Word of God. And I'm talking about walking it out. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego said, we serve a God who's able, but if he's not willing, we still gonna serve him.
He's able. And they said, and he will deliver us.
But if he doesn't, if you burn us like crispier than last week's pancakes. We are not bowing down to your idol. And they threw him in the fire in the Bible. I love the Bible because so like you have to have a God given.
Faith to even believe it. There's no, there's no human that's smart enough to believe the Bible because if you're, all you're using is your intelligentsia, right? You ain't gonna believe the Bible because.
The Bible talks about three different kinds of fire.
Y' all know there's three types of fire in the Bible, right? Okay, there's, there's called fire that burns. Where's where we see that fire? We see it all over. We see God sent down fire and brimstone from heaven to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. We see that Elijah called down fire from heaven to consume the captain of his 50.
That's called fire that burns. But we also see another fire.
We see the fire in Exodus when.
God called Moses and when God called Moses, the Bible says the bush was on fire, but it was not consumed. Now called fire that doesn't burn. So we got fire that burns and we got fire that don't burn. But the most amazing fire in the.
Entire canon of scripture we find in.
Daniel chapter three when it says that the king had his most mighty men, like the most mighty men in his arm.
I mean, they were stronger than me. Okay, that was a joke. Some of y' all get that on the way home, okay?
So the most. The most mighty men in his army, the scripture says he had him throw them into the fire. It says the fire was so hot that it consumed the most mighty men in Nebuchadnezzar's army. And then it says, and Shadmac, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell down bound in the midst of the furnace. It killed the men that threw him in.
But Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego fell down bound. And then Nebuchadnezzar, in his haste, stood up and said to his kings, and I mean, to his princes and his.
Counselors, did we not throw three men into the fire?
They answered him, true, O king.
He said, lo, I see four men loosed in the fire. And the form of the fourth is like unto the Son of God. What do we learn from that? We learn that more is caught than taught. Nebuchadnezzar couldn't hear Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they were telling him about their God. But when they demonstrated who their God was by allowing him to throw his best, his strongest men, his hottest heat, his greatest fire at them, they fell down, bound in the fire. But then they were loosed in the fire. So either it burned off their ropes or Jesus untied them.
I'm not sure which one happened.
But they were loose in the fire.
They're walking around in the fire now. They showing off.
Y' all don't see. They're saying, here's what their life is saying to Nebuchadnezzar. You don't know who I'm with. You don't know who's with me. You don't understand whose presence I'm aware of. And I'm more aware of his presence than I am of your persecution. I'm more aware of his presence than I am your problems. I'm more aware of his presence than I am your peril.
You don't understand.
Your fire can't stand scare me. The one who created fire is in the fire with me. And I know about the fire that burns because I read about it. And I know about the fire that doesn't burn because I read about that in the Torah. But now we got a new kind of fire. What's it called? It's called the fire to burn some.
Folk and don't burn other folk and see the very same trials that people in the world go through that don't Have Yeshua.
Those very same trials that break them build us.
Because we are aware of the presence of the Lord.
I think it's time for me to say, oh, wish I had some help in here. Okay, I got. Wish I was in a praying church.
Okay, so anyway, so. So what happens? So what happens? He said, it's a gift.
Now here's what it says.
It says, let no man say when.
He said.
Do not err, my beloved brother.
And then it says, every good gift, every perfect gift is from above. Comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there's no variables. Need a shadow of turning.
What it says next, of his own.
Will, not his will and my will.
Not my will, not his will, of his own will begat he us.
What does that mean?
That means I am not.
Okay.
There's a modern day like satanic false doctrine that's going around a lot of churches.
And what they'll do is they'll give an invitation. They'll say, if you want to give.
Your life to Jesus, come down to.
The altar and we'll let you. Then you can give your life to. To Jesus. Salvation is not a gift you give Jesus. Salvation is a gift he gives you.
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Salvation is not a gift we give Christ.
So stop giving your life to Jesus.
You give your life to Jesus.
If that's what you think salvation is.
You are going to end up in a very hot place and it's not going to be fun. And you're going to be amongst those people.
He said, many will say unto me in that day, lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in Thy name cast out demons, and in Thy name done many wonderful things, wonderful works. Then shall I say unto them, I.
Depart from me, you workers of iniquity.
I never knew you. Not I knew you.
And I don't know you anymore. I never knew you. Why. Of his own will be got. He us. You.
You don't.
You don't receive Christ because you're smart enough to get it. You receive Christ because he of his own will begat you. When you were born again, you were born again of the will of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. You are the passive recipient, not the active particip. It's Bible and don't get it confused. Your religion didn't help you. Your baptism didn't help you. Your church attendants ain't helping you. You're helping old little ladies across the street ain't helping you. The only. The only hope you have for eternity is the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua Hamashiach. Jesus the Christ.
And if you ain't got that, you.
Stuck like Chuck in a pickup truck.
So of his own will be got. He us. By the way, are you going to be more proud or more thankful if the salvation that you have you received because you had faith, but God, one that gave you the faith to receive it, are you going to have. Are you going to have more. You're going to have more gratitude if you just conjured it up? I didn't conjure up enough faith. I was. I was just looking for God, and.
All of a sudden I found.
I wasn't looking for him. And I didn't find him. He was looking for me. And he found me. The Son of man cometh to seek and save that which was lost. Let's don't get it twisted. Of his own will be got. He us.
Of his own will be got. He us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. So he begat us by the word of his truth.
What is the word of his truth? Well, let's say if we go to John 14, here's what Yeshua said. I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No man cometh to the Father but by me. In other words, Yeshua said I'm it. I'm not one of the ways, some of the truth and part of the light. He said, I'm the way. By the way. That word, the means the one and only. The truth. Not a part of the truth. The life. No man. I love the words in Hebrew.
I am the way.
I am the Derek from which we get the word direction right or direct. It's a path. Right. Derek is the Hebrew word for the way, the road. I'm the Derek. I'm the truth. I am the amethyst from which we get our word. Amen. Aleph mem tav. God's mighty covenant. Covenant is a promise that is backed.
Up by the life of the one.
Who gave the promise. That's why the scripture says God cannot lie, because his word is his covenant. It's his word that he's giving on his very life. And if he does not keep his word, he has to die the death of a mutilated animal.
Wish I had more time for that. But don't. Don't right now. So that's amet. And then chai.
Chai is life.
All high comes from God. All high life comes from God. Right? So he is the Derek, he is the Ahmed, he is the Chai. Right. I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh to the Abba, to the Father, to the Av. But by me, what is Abba? Abba Aleph Beit, God of the house. But by Me, of His own word begot he us of his own will be God. He us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. Then it says.
In verse number.
19, wherefore, my beloved brethren, now understand this. It just. I mean, a real simple Bible interpretation process. Okay? Is this if you ever see the word therefore, or if you ever see the word wherefore, it is referring to what came before. So when you see therefore or wherefore, it's referring to what came before. So because he begat us of his own will by the word of truth, Wherefore, my beloved brethren, since that's what happened, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, slow to boil over in anger. Let every man be swift to hear. Why? Because faith is created in the ears. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We need to be swift to hear, especially swift to hear the Word of God. It's so imperative for us to read the Word of God, to listen to the audible word of God, to read the Word of God out loud. It's important for us to talk about the Word of God. What does it say In Deuteronomy, chapter 6, before the children of Israel. Deuteronomy is the second giving of the law. In the book of Deuteronomy it says that. In chapter six, it says.
This book of the law shall not depart from out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein when day and night. Why, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. Now these words which I command this day shall be in thine heart. So the word of God is supposed to be in our heart. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children. And thou shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house. So when you're in your house, talk about the word of God. When you walkest, by the way, when you're traveling, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hands. And they should be as frontlets between thine eyes. Frontlets are the things they put on the eyes of horses so they can't see the stuff off to the side. That would cause them to buck up. They should be as frontlets between thine eyes, and thou shalt write them upon the post of thine house and on thy gates. Sounds like to me, the word of God is supposed to be our everything. Maybe that's why the word of God is referred to as the light. When we wake up in the morning, the sun is to remind us of the light. We go downstairs and we make a piece of toast that's supposed to remind us of the Word of God, because the Word of God is the bread of life. And when we take a shower, it's supposed to remind us of the Word. Because the word of God is the washing of the water by the word. So the word of God is our everything. It's our path, it's our way, it's our derech.
And it says, so let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
How fast should we hear?
Well, we should hear twice as fast as we talk. I'm going to tell you something. If you fancy yourself a teacher, make sure you're twice as much a learner as you are a teacher. Make sure you spend at least twice as much time studying as you do teaching. In the words of my brother Jeff, you cannot draw water from an empty well. If you fancy yourself a professional, make sure you spend more time preparing than you do performing. It's the stuff you do when nobody can see you that makes you shine when everybody sees you. Abraham Lincoln said, I will prepare myself and perhaps my time will come. Myron golden says, your time's gonna come whether you prepare yourself or not. If you're prepared, when your time comes, it will reveal you. If you're not prepared, it will expose you.
So verse 19, Wherefore, beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. We should be slow to wrath. Why? Because the wrath of man work of not the righteousness of God. In other words, you are not going to do God's work from a place of anger.
We got way too many angry Christians. They want to fight everybody. They want to prove it. We want to prove there. And one of the reasons they want to fight everybody is because. Because they've got ambitions. They need people to know their right. Right.
And we got a lot. So a lot of times people ask me questions about, well, what do you.
Think about so and so? What do you think about this person? What do you think about that person? I'm going to tell you something right now. It doesn't matter what I think about them. Why doesn't it matter what I think about them?
Because the scripture says, who art thou that judge thy brother? Why does thou judge thy brother?
Who art thou that judges another man's servant to his own master? He standeth or falleth. Yea, God is able to hold him up. And he shall make him stand for.
Every one of us.
Oh, we're all together. Shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
It is not like I have no.
Problem pointing out false doctrine. But I'm not going to tell you.
This person is evil.
That person is evil. That person is evil. This person's evil because they don't believe what I believe. Sometimes they just have a different assignment. Sometimes they're not evil. They just have a different assignment.
My assignment is not Billy Graham's assignment. My assignment is not Joel Osteen's assignment. My assignment is not TD Jakes assignment. My assignment is not any of your assignment. My assignment is my assignment. And Peter asked Jesus about John. When Jesus told Peter the death he.
Should die, Peter to Jesus, he pointed to John, said, well, what shall this man do?
Jesus asked him one of the greatest questions of all times. He said, what is that to thee? Follow that mean? What business is that of yours? You follow me?
It ain't my job to make you.
Do the right thing.
It ain't my job to point out.
To you all the evildoers in the world.
The disciples said to Jesus one time, those dudes are over there preaching you. They're preaching salvation, but they ain't with us. Well, you want us to go stop them? No, don't go stop them.
Ain't my job to stop everybody who ain't doing things according to the dictates of my assignment. It's hard enough for me to make myself fulfill my assignment.
I'm gonna try to make you fulfill my assignment.
Now, I ain't never gonna get my work done.
So.
Verse number 19, Wherefore, my beloved brethren, lay man, be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. And then it says, wherefore lay apart all filthiness, superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls. I'm going to say something about this, but then we're going to pick up on that one next Wednesday. We're going to pick up on that verse next Wednesday. The only thing I want to say about that, it says, wherefore My beloved brethren, let's lay aside all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness. And then it says, receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls. Why does it say that? Why does it say, lay apart all filthy filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and then receive with meekness the engrafted word? For the same reason you don't take an old dirty plate and put your supper on it. For the same reason you don't take an old dirty glass and put your water in it. Restaurant brings you a glass and it's all dirty. It's got fingerprints all over. It's got black stuff floating in there. And it looks like you're not going to say, oh, okay, cool. Or they bring you old glass to put your water in. The water's dirty. The glass is dirty. No, bring me a clean glass. God says, if you're going to fill up a vessel with the word of God, you clean that vessel first. Lay apart all filthiness. And I used to wonder, why does God oftentimes tell us to don't the don'ts before he tells us to do the do's? Do you ever notice that God tells us to don't the don'ts and then he tells us to do the do's? Why? Same reason you don't put your food on a dirty plate. Blessed is the man. It didn't say, blessed is the man that walketh. It says, blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the sea of scorn. Blessed is the man that doesn't do these three things, but instead his delight is in the law of the Lord and his law. Doth he meditate day and night. He should be like a tree planted by the rivers of waters and bringeth forth his fruit in the season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he should do, it shall prosper. So don't you make the mistake of thinking there's nothing in the Bible that teaches that our good works have to outweigh our bad works, because our good works can outweigh our bad works. Because the scripture says that a man born of a woman is here a few days and full of trouble. We are born sinners. Sin is in our nature. It's in the blood.
And so what we have to do, what we have to do is we have to make sure. We have to make sure that we are receiving the word of God into a clean vessel. We confess our sins, he's faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So we have to get to the place in our lives.
That we like, get rid of the filth before we start trying to fill it up with the Word. Like don't be clubbing on Saturday night and going to church on Sunday talking about praise the Lord. Right? Yeah. You go into the club wobble baby, wobble on Saturday night and then you want to come to the club worshiping. I come to church worshiping the Lord. It don't work like that. I'm just saying it's the word of God. It's not me. He said don'ts and don'ts. Make sure you put intention and attention on don'ting the don'ts and then start doing the do's. And so if we will do that, then we can receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save our souls. We're going to talk more about that later.
I just saw a parallel that I've never even seen before when I said that. So we'll talk about some of that stuff next week and we'll pick up on, I think it's verse number two, 21, verse number 21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness, superfluity of naughtiness, Receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls. We'll pick up on that next week.
