Everyone wants nice things, everyone wants to have more. But very few people are willing to do the things differently to achieve that. And all I'm asking is you to start taking life a little bit more seriously. Own your future. Stop letting the world dictate what's happening to you in the day to day. In last week's video, we explored four journal prompts. The power of journaling lies in the self discovery. By writing you can uncover areas in your life that you didn't realize that needed attention. This process is a powerful tool for personal growth and self development. And like I said last week, it's like freaking magic. Please try it. So for example, last week in journal prompt number two, we asked what were your self limiting beliefs? We asked you to dream big and to think whatever that big dream was. But what was the self limiting belief? When you start thinking about that dream of why you can't have it, because therein lies the power of that you can get over and achieve more when you start recognizing what are those excuses and the lies that we tell ourselves. There's a quote by Harvard professor William James and that quote says in most of us by the age of 30, the character has set like plaster and will never soften again. This means by the age of 30, we're so set in our ways that it's tough for us to learn new things by 30. That's insane to me. That's frightening. And we know that most older people don't engage in new things. Now when you think about life expectancy now it's in the mid-70s, but when our country was founded, life expectancy was 39. So people weren't dreaming big back then, they were looking for survival. So when you think about that 200 plus years ago, the life expectancy being 39. But how do we explain that? Members of the founding fathers lived on average 20 years longer than the rest of the population. And there were three founding fathers that actually lived into their 80s, twice the age of the rest of the population. And they live longer because they dreamed bigger. They had hopes of developing a future of making hundreds of thousands and now millions of lives better. Life slowed down for them. Now you guys have heard me say this before. We are the average of the five people that we spend the most time with. But pay close attention to the environment that you surround yourself with. Pay close attention to the people that you surround yourself with. Pay attention to the people in the teams inside the organizations where you work and who are those people that you're surrounding yourself with. Are you picking up great things of how you can become better or are you living down to lesser expectations of those folks Now? I always give the example of my mom. She was a single mom. You know, she cleaned houses for extra cash. And my mom loved decorating homes. Okay, she was awesome and still is to this day. She didn't struggle to find new cleaning clients because those clients knew that when my mom came along to clean the house that she would also be open to redecorating their homes. But she would do that at her hourly cleaning rate, not the rate that 5x or 10x of what an interior designer would charge. That I'd always say to my mom, mom, you can charge 5x10x. And she would say the same thing all the time. Her response was identical. Michael, no one's going to pay me that I don't have a high school diploma, I don't have a college degree or certificate. People aren't going to pay me to do something that I haven't done. Now think about that. Those aren't the things that are really preventing my mom from being an interior designer. Even at the age of 71, she had a birthday yesterday. The things that were limiting her were those beliefs that she couldn't be that, that people wouldn't pay that. But in reality people would and she would have had to done less because she would charge more and more. And how many things are preventing you from doing the things that you're great at, the talents that you have? But it's like Harvard professor William James said, adults stop surrounding themselves with new types of people, engaging in new roles in new environments, taking on new challenges, experiencing new emotions. And as a result, the personalities become fixed and their lives become highly routine and predictable. Like in last week's video. Where are you living a default future? Where are you living in the day to day? What self limiting beliefs and lies are you telling yourself preventing you from being more in life? Who you are is determined by the relationships that you have and the ideas that you surround yourself with. If you don't like where you are in life, there's a pretty good chance that you're not in the best of environments. It's not helping you become the better version of yourself. It's not helping you become your future self. Living that way will require you to age quickly and mostly unsatisfied as well. I hate saying it that way. I really truly do. But it's a real thing. We need a future to believe in. We need something to look forward to. We need to have hope in our lives. It's an important part of becoming your future self. Remember that quote from the Top five Regrets of the Dying? The Australian nurse Brawny Ware said, the number one regret for patients that were dying is that they regret not living life true to themselves, but instead at the expectation of others. Don't have those regrets on your deathbed today, I want you to take action. Do something differently. Please try. If you didn't last week, work on journal prompts, go back to last week's, watch it again and then come back and watch this one. Maybe you have to choose to give somebody up in your life that's not serving your purpose. Maybe there's a habit or something that you do routinely. That's something you have to give up if it's going to make you better. Give them or it up now there are three journal prompts today. The first journal prompt I want you to revisit last week's number two journal prompt and ask yourself what are your self limiting beliefs? What are those lies that you're telling yourself? And spend time on this. Really think deeply on where you are fooling yourself. What's holding you back? And number two, what's one step that you can take this week that moves you forward towards a new goal? And number three, when was the last time you had a moment where you were proud of yourself? You know, where you pat yourself on the back? What were you doing and what was taking place Now I hope you enjoyed these videos. It's gonna come fast and furious every week on Monday mornings. Please. I'd love your feedback and comments and we'll talk soon. Have a great week.
