During the coronavirus pandemic, you should be following up with companies and staying top of mind. I've said it a million times, persistence gets jobs. But how do you do this without being insensitive, desperate or a pest?
In this video, you'll learn how to follow up and I will give you three email templates. That's right, how to follow up three times and do it once the right way. I am a human resources professional with my ear to the ground of everything that is happening in the job market so that I can bring you the most timely strategies during this COVID 19 job search. So make sure you subscribe to this channel and hit the bell to get a new video every Thursday. So here's the situation. So many of you got an interview and maybe even got close to the offer stage and then companies slammed on the brakes and they say they're having a hiring freeze or reevaluating during this uncertain time. Here's what you need to know. First, this has nothing to do with you. This is happening all over. So do not let this dim your sparkle. Second, other candidates are going to hear that and completely back off and fade into the background because they don't know what to do next. They aren't watching this video. You are. You can use this as an opportunity to get ahead. Following up shows that you're highly passionate and interested in the company. Companies want go getters, not passive people. So following up shows that as long as of course, you're not being obnoxious, which I promise I won't let you be, how often should you follow up? Follow up right after the elapsed time that they give you. Such as if they say we will talk to you in a couple of weeks or in a few weeks, wait two weeks and then send them an email. If they give you a specific date, follow up the day after that date. If you're in the interview process with them, follow up every five to eight business days. Now usually my advice is every three to five business days, but given the current climate, make sure that you are distancing a little bit more and they're hearing from you a few times a month. Unless of course, like I said, they've already given you a timeline to work under. For more information on the five insights I am seeing right now in the job market due to the coronavirus, I will link my video where I go over all these insights and reveal which jobs are hiring and what to say to seal the deal to land a job offer. During this time, I will link that video on the screen and in the comments and in the description. Now here is what to say and stay to the end because I will also give you the subject lines that you can use for for these emails. My strategy is to follow up in a way that does not require a response if they don't choose to. This approach shows a level of understanding and confidence because you're not sounding desperate like come on, tell me right now I deserve this information. Hello, you're just saying, I'm here, I care, I'm interested. Now you know. Here's the first follow up email template of three. But first, if you like this step by step help in your job search. I did put together a free resume revamp Masterclass. We are going to go in depth on how to stand out from the rest of your competition. On your resume. You can go to standoutresume.com or follow the link in the comments and in the description. Here is the template. Hi Name Given the uncertainty of everything going on, I completely understand any delays or hesitations your team may have during the interview process. I am wishing you and your families health and wellness during this time. Do let me know if you need anything else additional from me as you determine next steps. I continue to be enthusiastic about potentially joining the team. Best no reply needed. Just an ambitious professional saying hey, put me in coach when you're ready. Now some of you will get really quivery in the knees when it comes to sending a second and then a third follow up. But you have to keep first following up and instead of me reading two more email templates out to you all, I'm just going to give it to you over email into free easy digital download so you can have all three of them copy and paste them into your emails. I am very proud of those next two templates because they will help you show your worth and keep the conversation going and you will never come off as desperate or insensitive. I will link that freebie in the comments and and in the description. Okay, so what should I put as the subject line? Well I found that simple subject lines are great so I like to use checking in and update. Know that you don't need to create a new email every time you follow up. You can simply reply to the emails you've sent before. Make sure to grab your digital download of those three follow up email templates in the comments and in the description like this video and subscribe to this channel. Thanks so much everyone. Wi Fi High five.
