Hi, it's Robin Sharma, author of the Leader, who Had no Title. And this video is all about how to think like a superhero. So you make this year the year that you change the game, the year that you transcend your doubts and do your dreams. Well, I'm here on a rest day on this Latin American tour, and I want to take you to what the scene actually looks like. I'm here in Costa Rica. They've got a term here called pura vida, which means pure Life. They've got 4% of the world's rainforest here, just a place of magical beauty. And I've sort of tucked myself away with my CEO for two days. We're planning and thinking and strategizing, but we're also renewing. And so the first point, I want to take you right into again, the idea is how to think like a superhero, because you know that your performance broadcasts your beliefs. And so you really want to get your thinking right, you want to get your core beliefs right so that you win and you dominate your industry this year, and you outperform what you did last year. And you make this year the year that you truly change the game and shift from any form of just talking about your dreams and your goals and your aspirations to executing flawlessly on them. And the first idea I want to share with you this year, make a commitment inside, so this becomes a core value. Adore mastery. Abhor mediocrity. Just make mastery your way of being. And don't let any form of mediocrity, whether it's in your language or your work performance or your influences or the people you surround yourself with or your thoughts. Just don't let any form of mediocrity infuse any one of your days. Steve Jobs is a great example of excellence. When he was a young boy, he was painting a fence with his father, and he learned a lesson that really changed the way that he lived. He was painting this fence, and he painted the outside of the fence. And he said to his dad, what do you think of it? And his dad said, you did a great job on the outside, but you didn't do a masterful job on the inside. And so Steve Jobs said, well, no one will see. See the inside of the fence, dad. And Steve Jobs father said, yes, Steve, but we will. Okay. So years later, Steve Jobs is working with his team on the Apple Macintosh mid-80s. And he says to his team, he says, you know, I want the inside of the computer to look so beautiful, people are literally left breathless. And the design team said, well, Steve, no one will see the inside. Why does it have to look like a piece of art? And Steve Jobs said, well, we'll see the inside. And the Apple team on the first Mac, I hope you can still hear me because of these beautiful waves are crashing in the background. But the Apple team on the first Mac made the interior of this Macintosh so stunningly beautiful. It was like a masterpiece. And Steve Jobs saw it and he said, you know, fantastic. Now I want you to sign the circuit board. And they said, why? And Steve Jobs said, because all artists sign their work. So your standards and your commitments.
Determine the way that you live. And I just want you to raise your standards to a point where literally you see yourself as someone who just plays at mastery this year in terms of every single thing you touch. And don't let any form of mediocrity infect your thinking. I mean, there are a lot of mind viruses out there. Like I am average or genius is the realm of genetics, not practice or. The world is a difficult place. No, the world is a fantastic place. People are essentially good. And this is the best time in the history of business to be world class in your business. While other people are frightened about the recession, don't participate in it. Make this the year that you make your fortune. Make this the year that you take your business to a whole new level of wealth. Make this the year that you become iconic. Make this the year that you make history. So again, lesson number one. Adore mastery, abhor mediocrity. Well, welcome to my hotel room.
I'm in Asuncion, Paraguay.
This is a remarkable place.
The second fastest growing country in the world or Qatar. Stunning progress here, fantastic people, fantastic agriculture.
A very special place.
I'm going to get right into point number two to think like a superhero. So this year really becomes your absolute best year yet. The year that you clean out the doubts and disbeliefs from here. So you go out and you outperform.
Everything that you did last year. And that's actually a great way to look at every year. You want every year to become better than last year. You don't want to be stuck in 1987.
So point number two is really do the things that frighten you.
