No Doubt - Only Belief

Myron Golden argues that failure comes from lack of belief, not lack of effort. He uses Mark 9:17-29 to show how prayer and fasting tune you to the spiritual realm, and urges you to replace limiting identities with a divine "I AM" identity so you can act boldly. The core claim: if you can believe, all things are possible.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? Or better yet, what would you attempt to do that you've been avoiding? If you knew you could not fail? Would you write the book or would you write the song? Would you start the business or would you travel around the world? What thing has been in you for a long time but you've been resisting it because you just weren't quite sure if you could pull it off? I'm going to read a story to you that is one of the most mind blowing stories. It has one of the most mind blowing questions and one of the most mind blowing answers I've ever read in scripture. It's found in, it's found in Mark, chapter nine, starting with verse 17. That's where I'm going to start. And it says, and one of the multitude answered and said, master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit.
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him, he foameth and gnashes with his teeth and pineth away. And I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out. And they could not. He answered, he answereth him and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall the difficult situation that you are in do the work on you that it was sent to do on you? Until it is done. But if any of you lack wisdom on how to do that, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. But what does it say after that? It says, but let him ask how? In faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and is tossed. A double minded man I believe, Lord, help thou mine unbelief. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. So what if your real problem was not an inability.
To execute?
What if your real problem is an inability to expect?
What if your real problem were not an inability to behave, but your real problem were an inability to believe?
Question number one. Would you be willing to do what it takes to change that? Because when I do, you understand that our words and our actions display our beliefs.
People say, I believe this and I believe that. You don't have to tell anybody what you believe.
All you gotta do is keep on living. And people who are looking at you can see what you believe by the things that you do and the things that you Say.
And so I'm gonna keep reading here so I can get to. So y' all can know what happened in the story. Then we're gonna see what we can learn from the story for our own everyday life. And Jesus saw.
That the people came running together. He rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him and enter into him no more. And the Spirit cried, I love the specificity with which Christ spoke. He didn't say, come out. He didn't say, leave today and you can come back tomorrow. He said, leave, and don't you ever come back anyway.
And the Spirit cried and rent him sore and came out of him. And he was as one dead in so much that many said, he is dead. And Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
And when he was coming to the house, his disciples asked him privately, why could we not cast him out? And he said unto them, this kind cometh not out, cometh forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. So let me give you the interpretation before I give you the application. Why did Jesus say, this kind cometh not forth, but by prayer and fasting?
When we understand.
That heaven gives earth meaning and earth gives heaven expression, when we understand that, that's like physicality is an expression of reality. Physicality is not reality. Spirit is reality, then physicality is an expression of that reality. It's one of the expressions.
And when we pray, we're tuning out the voices that come into our ears. We close our eyes when we pray so we can tune out the images that come into our eyes. We're turning off our sensory mechanisms to become more in tune with spirit and less in tune with physicality. The same thing is true with fasting. When we fast, we are, well, at first, when we say, okay, I'm not going to eat, or I'm not going to. I'm not going to eat food. I'm not going to drink water. The first thing that happens is our flesh starts screaming at us because it wants to be in control. Can I get a witness? Some of us, our flesh is screaming at us even when we ain't fast.
Just saying, right.
And it wants to be in control. But when we. When we stop taking in food over a period of time, what happens is we become less in tune with the flesh and more in tune with the spirit.
And it heightens our awareness of God and his powerfulness. And I know it's his power, but powerfulness sounds bigger.
And so Jesus said the Reason you couldn't cast out this demon is because you were so in tune with how things seemed that you could not see how things are.
And I am here to tell you that this story, when he said to this man, if you can believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And here's the problem. We think that declaring is a belief is the same thing as having one.
Can I get a witness? We think that. Well, I said I believe. Okay.
But is what you believe leaking out of your actions? Is it overflowing.
Out of your daily activity into your daily activities what you believe? Well, the reality is it is. But is what you say you believe overflowing? Only if you actually believe it.
Like, people will do affirmations, right? They'll do positive affirmations about things they don't believe. And they think that the positive affirmation in itself is some kind of magic incantation that's going to produce some result for a person who doesn't even believe what's coming out of their mouth. And all it's going to do is produce in that person the feeling of I know I'm lying.
How many are picking up what I'm putting down? And I believe we should have positive affirmations. But I believe that a positive affirmation without a positive awareness is a farce.
It's not real.
And a person who has a positive awareness and no positive affirmation is going to out produce somebody with a positive affirmation and no positive awareness.
Because the reality is we're already believing something. But here's the question I have for you about your beliefs before I.
Get into what I'm going to talk to you about.
The beliefs that you're carrying around with you and nurturing and have been for years. Are they beliefs that serve you and give you the ability to serve other people? Are they beliefs that don't?
That's the real question. Like when I coach a salesperson, like I coach people in sales, you know, the biggest thing that makes sales hard for salespeople for whom it's hard.
They'Re thinking about themselves.
Man, I hope that presentation came across okay. Man, I hope I didn't sound like. Man, I hope they buy because I really need the commission.
None of that matters. Like, when you can get to the place in your life and in your business where that is not what matters most to you, but serving the people who are in front of you is what matters most to you. It'll change the game for you forever. For the rest of your natural life.
What if every human being on earth became obsessed with the kingdom of God like Christ said in Matthew, in Matthew, chapter 6, verse 33, but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. What if everybody. What if everybody on earth. What if just all the believers on earth became obsessed with that? Wouldn't that be fascinating? Well, it would be, but most believers can't do it. And the reason most believers can't seek first the kingdom of God is because they don't even tune with physicality. The same thing is true with fasting. When we fast, we are, well, at first when we say, okay, I'm not going to eat, or I'm not going to eat food, I'm not going to drink water, the first thing that happens is our flesh starts screaming at us because it wants to be in control. Can I get a witness? Some of us, our flesh is screaming at us even when we ain't fast. I'm just saying, right?
And it wants to be in control. But when we. When we stop taking in food over a period of time, what happens is we become less in tune with the flesh and more in tune with the spirit.
And it heightens our awareness of God and his powerfulness. And I know it's his power, but powerfulness sounds bigger.
And so Jesus said the reason you couldn't cast out this demon is because you were so in tune with how things seemed that you could not see how things are.
Just can't do it. And the reason most believers can't seek first the kingdom of God is because they don't even know what the kingdom of God is in the first place. If you don't know what it is and you're seeking for it, even if you find it, you won't know you found it, so you're going to keep on looking for it anyway if you're actually looking for it in the first place. Am I telling the truth? So we have this mistaken understanding of the Bible that it's a bunch of magical incantations. It's not magical incantations. It is instructions that produce outcomes in those who live them out.
Be ye doers of the Word and not hearers, only doing what? Deceiving your own selves? If any man be a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he's like unto a man beholding his natural face in the glass. For he beholdeth himself and goeth his way, and straightway forget what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein. He being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work. This man shall be blessed in his deeds.
See, we read something in the Bible and it tells us we're supposed to do something. And then we ignore it.
And then we wonder why our life ain't working. Your life ain't working because you ain't working it the way it works.
By the way, when it says, seek ye first the kingdom of God, and as righteousness, all these things shall be added unto you. The kingdom of God. I believe this is the best definition I've ever discovered. If you find a better one. This is not.
Cast in stone, but it's what I've seemed to discover. If you find a better one, please share it with me. Because I'm just seeking the kingdom of God, right? I believe that the kingdom of God, the word kingdom is a compound word which comes from king's dominion. Okay, so the kingdom of God is not a place, it is a realm. It's a realm of jurisdiction.
That's why Christ said, when you pray after this manner, pray ye, Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy. Hallowed be thy name. What does it say next? Thy kingdom come. And I know we've been taught that that means we're supposed to pray for Jesus to come back as if that has something to do with when he's coming back. But that's not what it means. We're asking God for his kingdom to come into my life.
Come and rule over my life as the sovereign king.
What it's saying is, lord, I yield my life to you as the sovereign king of my life. Amazingly enough, because God is a king who desires to make you a king or he desires to make you a queen.
When you yield yourself to God as the sovereign king of your life, he makes you the king or the queen of an assignment that you get to rule over. And now because you're yielded to God, your assignment has to yield to you. That is so cool. I don't have to make my assignment yield to me. It's already programmed to do that as long as I'm yielded to God.
So I yield my life to God as the sovereign king of my life. I rule over my assignment as the sovereign king of my assignment. Which means now I don't even have to try. I don't have to hustle and grind. All I have to do is rule according to the principles of God's kingdom and then use the assignment that I rule over to Serve the people I come in contact with. And here's the amazing thing. In the kingdom of God, the person who's ruling over an assignment is king when they're ruling over their assignment. God didn't make us rulers over each other. He made us rulers over assignments for the purpose of serving each other. So I use the assignment that I rule over to serve every human being I come in contact with. What if that was every human being's objective? If every human being on earth had that as their objective? All of the social ills in the world would go away in one day, in one hour. If that was everybody's objective. But I can't make that everybody's objective and neither can you. But all of us can make it our objective.
But unfortunately we're so busy.
We're so busy seeking to serve ourselves and seeking other people to serve us.
That we don't take time to serve other people. We don't take time to serve them. A smile, a hello, how are you today?
A bit of joy, a bit of encouragement, a word of prayer, a kind word.
We can all do that in our businesses. We're not seeking to serve the greatest possible value that people could get for the money. We're hustling and grinding, hoping to rake it in and stack it up and pack it up.
What if we really cared about serving people at the highest level? Yielding to God, serving people at the highest level? What if that was our.
All consuming passion? It would change everything.
So I'm going to ask a question again.
What would you attempt that you've been avoiding if you really believed you could not fail?
You don't have to raise your hand or answer. Just think about it. Think about it out there in the YouTube sphere.
Is it something different.
Than you've been.
Endeavoring to do heretofore? Is it different like the thing that if you believed you could not fail, you would do? Is it something different than what you've been doing?
Or is it the same? Is it basically the same thing?
You talk about putting your faith to the test. So here are some thoughts that I have around this whole concept.
In every area of our lives.
An inability to execute is the fruit, it is not the root.
So if there's some area of my life that's not working, it's not not working. I mean, it's not. Yeah, it's not not working just because it's not working. It's not working because there's something.
That you're doing as a root cause that's producing the fruit. Of that outcome in your life.
So the failure to execute is the fruit. And you can paint the fruit and you can motivate the fruit, and you can encourage the fruit and you can hype up the fruit, but at the end of the day, it's still the fruit. And the fruit on the tree is going to match the root of the tree every time.
So instead of painting. Well, before I get to that, the inability to expect is the root.
Now why can't we expect? Why do we have a hard time believing that we can do things like believing that we can do whatever the thing is? I really believe it's because we don't understand who we are based on whose we are. Like if I see a common human fault in us humans, it is that we do not understand who we are based on whose we are. And so we live well below our potential because we don't understand that potential is the difference between who we are and who we could be. And we do that perpetually because of our lack of belief in what God said about us.
That's a bold statement, ain't it? No, I believe what God said about me. Oh, is that a fact?
Have you been following the first command?
I didn't say the first command meant. Because the first commandment, the ten commandments, came thousands of years after the first command. The first thing God ever said to a human being was be fruitful.
What's fruit? Fruit is a living organism whose seed is in itself. So when God said be fruitful, what's he saying? Produce on the outside based on what I put on the inside of you. God put an aspect of his creativity inside of all of us.
And we're supposed to make it show up outside of us. And when we do and it shows up outside of us, it will serve people at a very high level.
Be fruitful, multiply. Why? Because fruit does not grow by addition.
It grows by multiplication. What did Warren Wiersbe say? Any fool can count the number of seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.
Multiply. You know what multiply means? It means to increase. So God said, produce on the outside based on what I put on the inside and increase. Is that how we live? Not generally. We get to a point that society told us that we should be at by a certain age and we stack seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed. Multiply. Meat.
Yeah, but you already have enough. Okay, now that you have enough for you, go get some more so you can Help somebody else.
Be fruitful. Multiply, replenish the earth. The word replenish means to fill up. So God. The first thing God told the man to do, he said, produce on the outside based on what I put on the inside.
Multiply and increase. Fill up the earth. And then he says, and subdue it. Subdue means to trample down, stomp everything that attempts to stop you. What does that mean? That means you are going to have opposition because disruption always follows intention.
Okay? And then he said, and have dominion. If God is telling us to have dominion, that means we have the ability to have dominion. Because God never commands us to do something he didn't give us the ability to do before he gave us the assignment. He never tells us to do something and gives us a command to do something before he gives us the capacity. So if he's telling me to do it, that means by the very virtue of the fact that he's telling me to do it, that means I can do it.
And so I bought more into my li identity. All of the things that all the people around me my whole life told me I am not. Not tall enough, not pretty enough, not athletic enough, not strong enough, not smart enough, not mathematically inclined enough.
You don't get good enough grades. And you are. You are so intimately aware of what you are not that you are completely, almost completely unaware of who you are.
That's the identity. And by the way, here's what's going to happen when you get. When you break. It's so interesting to watch people attempt to overcome the li identity because everybody's more than they think they are. Everybody. There's not a single solitary person listening to me. Me, Myron Golden. I'm talking right now. I am more than I think I am. I have more ability than I believe I have. I'm working on believing I have more. I ain't perfect at this. I ain't. I. Hey, I ain't preaching at y'. All. I preach it at us.
But this is something that I've been practicing for a long time. And I am telling you there are things that I do right now I could have done in my 20s, but I didn't have the belief in my 20s. I have right now.
And I'm telling you, if you shift the belief. And I'll tell you how to do that in a minute. Yes, I will.
So stop painting old fruit. Start planting new roots.
How do you do that?
Oh, if I could just introduce you to you.
If I could just introduce you to you.
And help you begin to become even a little more aware.
Of what it means when it says, we're made in the image and the likeness of God.
How can you believe that you're weak or that you're too tired or not smart enough, or not young enough or not old enough? How can you possibly believe that when you're made in the image of a great God? How can you believe you're less than anything but great?
I can't believe. I don't have the ability to believe that you're less than something great. And I know I get on people's nerves believing in their greatness sometimes. I get it.
But I can't stop because it's an awareness that I've become more aware of. And I can't stop believing in your ability to become more than you've been being. But how do I do it? Well, here's how you do it. You plug into the ultimate identity. What does that mean? So when people have a lidentality, you've been told your whole life, you're not this enough. You're not bad enough, you're not good enough. You're not strong enough. You're not all of that your whole life. Well, guess what? We begin to resent it. We know it's like in our heart of hearts, we know it's not true.
And so we attempt to prove it's not true by creating what I call a mydentity. What's a mydentity? That's another fake identity that you create while you're faking it to make it till you make it to prove to other people that you're more than they thought you weren't. But it's still not the real you. Because it's a reaction to people's misperceptions of you instead of a response to who God told you you are.
I mean, there are people in this room right now who are in their 30s, 40s, 50s, maybe 60s. Maybe I'm the only one here in my 60s. You're in your 60s too, Ed. This year. Okay. Yeah. So 30s, 40s, 5060s, and 60s. Who we're still trying to prove something to our third grade teacher.
Still trying to. Still trying to get Daddy's approval when you don't realize you already have your heavenly father's approval.
Still trying to. Still trying to like. Still trying to get Mama to notice you, baby, get over it. Let that ship sail.
Until you get your identity from the ultimate identity. Moses asked God when he got ready to go to Pharaoh, who shall. Still trying to. Still trying to like still trying to get Mama to notice you? Baby, get over it. Let that ship sail.
Until you get your identity. For lyse has sent me. God's answer confused me for decades. Tell him that the I am that I am has sent thee.
We doing tongue twisters now? I'm already stuttering. Now I gotta go do a tongue twister.
Right? But see, we don't. We don't understand the significance of that. When God said, I am that I am, he is the essence of everything. I am that I am what I am the I am that created everything out of nothing. I am that I am the I am that sent the flood. I am that I am the I am that sent fire and brimstone from heaven to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. I am that I am the God that called Abram away from his country, away from his kindred, and away from his father's house. I am that I am to go to a land that he couldn't even know where it was until he got there. I am that I am the God that spoke to Moses, the God who gave Moses the commandments on the tablet. I am that I am the one that part of the Red Sea. I am that I am. And you think your problem's too big for me?
You are the one that's confused.
If you can believe. I mean, if you can, will you have compassion on us and help us?
If you can believe.
All things are possible to him that believes. Believe it or not. Thanks for watching.
