Payday Someday-Myron Golden Finally Got Caught

A first-person YouTube talk by Myron Golden recounting being pulled over for speeding and the anxiety of the stop (owning fast cars, carrying a concealed weapon, deputy recognition). He draws six practical/theological lessons from the incident—chiefly that nobody truly "gets away" with sin, the duty to yield to authority, honesty, and the availability of mercy—supporting each point with explicit Bible citations (Ecclesiastes, Romans, Proverbs, Colossians, Hosea, Psalm 23). The tone is personal, didactic, and pastoral-ethical.

Well, folks, I finally got caught. I mean, I literally got busted. Have, you know that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when you know you're going fast, but you haven't even looked at your speedometer in quite some time, in quite a few miles, but you know you're going fast because everybody who was in front of you is now behind you. And then you look up and you see these flashing lights in the rear view mirror. That was my experience. I was driving on my way home to change clothes because I had a tee time, and I got pulled over, and I looked up and I saw those, and I thought, oh, my goodness, I've got. I'm going way too fast. I don't know how fast, but I'm sure it was way too fast. Probably 30 or more miles over the speed limit. So I'm driving way too fast. I look up, and you know what happens? You use Waze, and it tells you when there are police in front of you, but it don't tell you when there are police behind you. Right, okay. And some people use radar detectors. I don't use a radar detector. But, you know, I wasn't even consciously speeding at this point. I was earlier, but I wasn't at this point. I was just getting home so I could change. Okay. So I get pulled over, and the cop says, do you have a Rolls Royce? Well, I wasn't driving the Rolls Royce. I was driving the Mercedes.
And he says to you.
Yeah, I was behind you the other day.
When you were in your Rolls Royce, but I couldn't catch you. And I'm like, oh, no.
This is getting worse by the minute now. When I saw the flashing lights, I was in my Mercedes. I get pulled over, and I've got my gun on the front seat, and it's just getting worse by the minute. And then he tells me he was behind me the other day. So when I got pulled over, I had my driver's. I put. Put the windows down. I put my driver's license in one hand. I put my concealed carry permit in the other hand. My hands are on 10 and 2. The guy comes up to the window and he says, yeah, you were going really fast. Yes, sir, I was going way too fast. You won't believe how this story ends, by the way, because you know, when you are allegedly. When you're a black man and you get pulled over by the police, it doesn't end well. And for some people, that's really true. And so that I don't know this guy, and he don't Know me, right? I wasn't concerned about. I wasn't nervous about that, but I realized that that's a real possibility in some parts of the world. And so I'm sitting here, I've got my gun, I've got my concealed carry permit. I'm driving way too fast. Like, way, way too fast. And I get it. Some of you are gonna say, well, you shouldn't be driving way too fast. Thank you for sharing. I get that already. Clearly I shouldn't have been driving that fast or I wouldn't have gotten pulled over. Okay? He says, do you have a Rolls Royce? I said, I do. He said, yeah, I was behind you the other day, but I couldn't catch you. So I outran him in the Rolls Royce, but I couldn't get away in the Mercedes. And I wasn't even trying to get away in the Rolls Royce. I didn't even know he was behind me. I was just on my way somewhere and Rolls Royces happened to be very fast. So.
I said, sir, I was going way too fast. So he takes my driver's license, looks at my concealed carry permit, gives it back, goes back to his car. He comes back and I said, sir, I am not gonna lie to you. I'm gonna tell you right now, this is why I was going so fast.
I have a tee time.
And I'm getting rushing home to change clothes so I can make it to the golf course in time for my tee time. So I'm going to tell you before I tell you what he did.
I want to share with you the lessons, Bible lessons I learned from this. Okay, so they start with Ecclesiastes, chapter 8, verse number 11. So Ecclesiastes chapter 8, verse 11 says, because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the hearts of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. So what's the first lesson? Nobody ever gets away with anything. Not it doesn't matter if you're Myron Golden. It doesn't matter if you have a Rolls Royce. It doesn't matter if you have a Mercedes. It doesn't matter if you have pockets full of money. Nobody ever gets away with anything. I was talking to a friend of mine about this the other day. Eventually it's going to catch up with you.
And here's what my friend said. Eventually is undefeated.
And I'm telling you, you might think you can get away with it. Do you realize this was the lie that Satan told Eve? The serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field, which The Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat every tree of the garden. The woman said, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the tree that's in the midst of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. Here's what the serpent said. Ye shall not surely die.
What does that mean? You can get away with it. Anybody who believes the lie that you can get away with it, present company included, is setting themselves up for disaster.
So nobody gets away with anything. Achan thought he got away with it, didn't he? When the children of Israel went into the promised land and the walls of Jericho knocked down, God said, don't take anything.
It'S all mine. God gets the first fruits, Achan said, but nobody will ever know. So he took 250shekels of silver, he took a wedge of gold, and he took a goodly Babylonian garment, and he buried it in his tent. And then they went out to fight AI this little itty bitty army that they should have crushed. But the favor of God was not with them. And tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers lost their lives that day.
And Achan thought he got away with it. But here's what happened. Not only did he have to pay for his sin, but his family had to pay for his sin. Cause the scripture says that he was that they were commanded to take. God told them, take. They started praying. That's what we do, right? We do something wrong and then we start, oh, dear God, what you praying about?
There's sin in the camp. This ain't pray time. This ain't praying time. This is repenting time. There's sin in the camp. And so they cast lots. The lot fell on Achan. They found the wedge of gold, 250shekels of silver, a goodly garment, Babylonish garment, in his tent. And guess what his judgment was. He and his family were taken outside the camp and they were stoned with stones until they died. Nobody ever gets away with anything. It doesn't matter if it's David with Bathsheba, the man has done this thing, he shall restore fourfold. Well, David pronounced his own judgment.
He had a son that rebelled against him. That son later was killed by his general. He had another son who raped his half sister. So he had a son rape a daughter. Judgment number two. The baby that Bathsheba had died. Judgment number three.
And his son rebelling against him was judgment number the baby Dying was judgment number one. The son rebelling against him was judgment number two. The other son raping the daughter was judgment number three. The other son killing that son. That was judgment number four. Like nobody ever gets away with anything. Do not think for a second that you will be the first person in world history to get away with something. Because if you get away with something, and you won't, you would be the first person in world history to get away with it. So here's what it says. I'm gonna read the verse to you again. Lesson number one, I learned from this when I got pulled over for driving way too fast is nobody ever gets away with anything.
Because here's what it says. Ecclesiastes 8, 11. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily. What does that mean? That means because I did it before and nothing happened. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily. Therefore, the hearts of the sons of men is fully set in them to. To do evil. So we think we got away with it last time, so we do it again this time. But eventually, chickens come home to roost. That's the first thing. Second thing. I'm the Myron Golden. How dare you pull me over. Who do you think you are? Just because you got some lights on your truck and it was in a pickup. I got pulled over by a pickup truck.
You got some lights on your truck and you got a badge and a gun, you just think you can pull me over because you are a sheriff's deputy. A deputy sheriff, whatever it's called.
Yes.
And one of the things that God commands us to do is God commands us to yield to authority.
Here's what Romans chapter 13 says. This is lesson number two. Like, I didn't give the guy a hard time. Why? I was wrong.
I was wrong. I'm the one that was driving way too fast for no reason other than to get to the golf course in time for my tee time. Okay, y' all picking up what I'm putting down? Here's what it says. Romans, chapter 13, starting with verse one, Let every soul be subject to the higher powers, for there's no power but of God. The powers that be ordained of God. By the way, this is hard for us to wrap our minds around. Even evil powers are ordained by God. It's hard for us to wrap our mind. Well, why would God ordain evil powers? God ordains evil powers for the judgment of his people when they stray from him. We see it over and over in scripture. So the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God. That's talking about. That's talking about people to the government, that's talking about children, to parents, that's talking about yield to authority.
Because if you resist authority, you think you're resisting the person. You're not resisting the person, you're resisting God. Because God's the one who set it up that way.
Here's what it says. Whosoever, therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God. And they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation or condemnation, judgment. For the rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same.
See, here's the problem. We think we've lived long enough to know what's good and what's bad, but the reality is we haven't lived long enough. We would have to be as eternal as God to know good from evil. Apart from God telling us whether something's good or evil. Y' all picking up what I'm putting down? See, because everything that feels good ain't good, and everything that's good don't feel good. In fact, one of the things I've. One of the principles I've discovered in life is some of the worst things that ever happened to us in our lives are some of the best things that ever happened to us in our lives. And everything that happens to us happens for us if our attitude is right. Mm. How do I know this? Well, y' all remember a man in the Bible named Joseph. Don't you remember? Joseph was hated of his brothers. They hated him so much, they threw him in the pit. He was rescued because his brothers hated him for his dreams and for his words. But his father's name was Israel or Jacob.
When Pharaoh asked Jacob.
How old he was, which, by the way, he was asking for a number. I like what Jim Rohn used to say. The reason we make the space so small is so a story won't fit. We need a number.
He asked him, so how old are you? And Jacob goes into a story. He says, few and evil have been the days of the life of my pilgrimage.
And he's 130. I think he was 138 years old when he asked him that question. Few and evil have been the days of the life of my pilgrimage, Joseph. When his sons were born in Egypt.
He named one of them. God hath made me to forget my toil in my father's house. And he named the other one a name that means, God hath made me fruitful in the land of my affliction. Same scenario, two totally different perspectives. One of them thought it happened to him. The other one realized it happened for him.
And then it says, talking about the ruler, for he is the minister of God. This is anybody in authority. He's the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth them, that doeth evil. Wherefore he must needs be subject not only for wrath. In other words, wherefore you must needs be subject not only for wrath. In other words, you don't yield to authority just because of the judgment.
But yield to authority for conscience sake. And when this. When this deputy sheriff pulled me over, I knew I was wrong. I was driving too fast.
I wasn't driving too fast for my skill level. I was driving too fast for the road I was on.
Okay, I'm just helping you understand what I'm saying. I was driving too fast for the road I was on because the road that I'm on says the speed limit is something other than the speed I was going to. And I don't know what the speed it says, and I don't know the speed I was going. So that's why I left those as vague as they were. Okay, so here's the next lesson I learned. Honesty is the best policy. I didn't make up a story about my wife being in an accident and me rushing to the hospital.
I didn't make up a story about. Oh, my goodness, I'm feeling so sick right now. I feel like I'm gonna projectile vomit. No, I didn't do any of that. You know, I said, officer. Is it officer? He said, no, it's deputy sheriff. Deputy sheriff. I'm not gonna lie to you, sir. The reason I was going so fast is I'm late for my tee time.
I'm on my way to the golf course, and I didn't wanna be late for my tee time. Well, it just goes to show that I was gonna be late anyway. Now here I am sitting here talking to this deputy sheriff. I might. Hey, I might end up a couple days late.
Right? Couple days later, a few dollars shorter. Okay? So I told him the truth. And you know what he said? He said, thank you for not lying to me. People tell me all kinds of stories. That are so ridiculous. He's thanking me. I'm driving.
You're welcome.
It's the least I could do. But here's. But here's what happens. People will tell convenient lies to get themselves out of sticky situations. It's always a bad idea. If you're going to lie, you better have a good memory or some very, very, very clear notes on what you lied about. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said. It's just the truth. So, Proverbs 12:22. Lying lips are an abomination unto the Lord. That means God hates lying lips, but they that deal truly are his delight. Truly when it hurts, truly when it helps, deal truly. Truly. If it costs money, truly if it makes money, tell the truth truly. When you get pulled over and you might go to jail.
Truly, just tell the truth. Honesty is the best policy. What does it tell us in Colossians, chapter 3, verse 9, 10. Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds and have put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge and after the image of him that created him. I'm supposed to tell the truth because I'm made in the image of God, and God cannot lie. And I'm not only made in the image of God, but I'm renewed into that image when I was redeemed by Christ. So now I'm doubly in the image of God. And if I'm lying, I'm misrepresenting God in the marketplace. Honesty's the best policy. These are lessons I learned when I got pulled over, driving way Too fast, probably 30 or more miles over the speed limit.
I'm. I shouldn't drive that fast. I shouldn't have been driving that fast. I really was not even paying attention to how fast I was driving. So I don't. I know what he told me, how fast I was going almost a number. And I'm not going to say that number, but it was a big number. He said you were almost going a number. Okay, I'm not going to say the number, okay? It was a big number, okay? And I just told him the truth.
But here's another lesson. For those of you who feel like you've already messed up so bad or so badly, that's the proper adverb. To those of you who feel like you've already messed up so badly that there's no recovering.
You can find mercy in the field of truth, righteousness. What does that mean? Well, Proverbs 28:13 says this. He that covereth his sin shall not prosper. But whoso confesseth and forsaketh his sin shall have mercy. Now, I told this deputy, I said, here's what I'm gonna tell you, sir. I am gonna use my cruise control on the interstate from now on so this doesn't happen again. And I've been using my cruise control ever since. Cause my cruise control doesn't have a lead foot.
It's just gonna go whatever I set it at. And I'm not gonna set it anywhere near that number I got pulled over at. Because now they know what both of my cars look like. And can I get a witness? They gonna be like, I'm waiting. I know this brother gonna be coming back this way today. Yeah. But he gonna be coming at a speed that is acceptable. Can I get a witness? I learned my lesson. Shoot, you don't have to tell me 16 times.
Here's what it says in Hosea, chapter 10. Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy. Break up your fallow ground. It's time to seek the Lord. The Bible teaches a principle that even if we've sown bad seed in the past, bad seed in the form of bad deeds, if we will sow in righteousness, the righteous seeds we sow today can create crop failure on some of the bad seeds we've sown in the past. Now that's exciting. Sow in righteousness and reap in mercy.
Okay, understand the difference between grace and mercy.
Grace.
Is when I receive a gift that I do not deserve. That's grace.
You know, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor. That you, through his poverty, might be rich. The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God. The gift of God, not the gift of man. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We don't receive salvation by giving our life to Jesus like these modern day pastors say.
We receive salvation by receiving the gift of salvation, by trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now, am I supposed to give my life back to him? Yes. But that's what I do in response to the fact that he gave his life. That's not what I do for salvation. Salvation is not me giving my life to Christ. Me giving my life to Christ is my reasonable service. Are y' all tracking? That's the difference anyway. So.
Grace is when I receive a gift I do not deserve. Mercy, on the other hand, is something different. Do you remember what it says in Psalms chapter 23.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil.
My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me. Hmm, that's so good. What is mercy? Mercy is when I don't receive judgment that I do deserve.
That's mercy. And I love the fact that Psalm 23 says that surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. Goodness. Mr. Goodness is following me to make sure I don't fall. Mr. Mercy's following me to help me up when I do.
And by the way, we all mess up. I am not even here to begin to pretend that I am perfect.
Because y' all would already know that's a lie. Hopefully you would know that's a lie. I ain't fixing to believe you perfect because I would know that's a lie. But we all mess up. And I'm telling you on this day, when you are driving almost a very big number and you get pulled over by a sheriff's deputy in a pickup truck, and he runs your tag, and he realizes that you own another car that he could not catch in the past.
How many y' all know you in trouble? Like this is what we call bad trouble.
But I didn't resist because I knew I was wrong. So I knew I was gonna have to pay. I didn't know if I was gonna have to pay just with money. I didn't know if I was gonna have to pay by going to jail. I didn't know if I was gonna have to pay by getting my car impounded. All those good possibility that day. I'd already gotten away once because. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily. Therefore, the hearts of the sons of men is fully sending them to do evil. I got away with it last time. It's gonna be all right till I look up and see these flashing lights.
And I've got my gun on the passenger seat. So really quickly I took, because I didn't feel like putting it on. And I put it under the drive, the passenger seat instead of on the passenger seat. And I showed him, because I'm a concealed carry permit, I want to let them know that I'm a concealed carry. So. And he can ask me if I have a firearm in the car and I can tell him, yes, I do, and where it's at, et cetera, et cetera. So I did all of that stuff. Cool.
And when he told. When I told him the truth, here's what he said. I'm not going to give you a ticket. I'm going to give you a warning. And I said, I wouldn't blame you if you gave me a ticket. I was going too fast. He said, I'm going to give you a warning, but you need to slow down. Yes, sir. From now on, I'm on the interstate. I got cruise control set on my car.
Because just because this black man.
Outran the cops and my Rolls Royce and got away with it and got pulled over in my Mercedes when I was speeding again and they let me off the hook.
I ain't even going to tempt lightning to see if it's going to strike three times. I'm done.
Here's what this is called. This is called God's announcement to Myron, do the right thing when you are in your car.
So that's what happened to me last Friday on my way home. It will not happen today and it will not happen tomorrow. You know why? Cruise control. I hope this message blesses you. In the meantime, in between time, we'll see you in the next video. Stay blessed by the best.
