A short YouTube career-advice video by Madeline Mann offering a resume tip for entrepreneurs transitioning to corporate roles: replace generic founder/CEO titles with specific job titles that match the role you're targeting (e.g., Marketing Director, Product Manager) and frame your bullet accomplishments using language from the job description. The video includes a concrete example (labeling founder work as Product Manager when pursuing product roles) and clarifies that you can still disclose you were a founder elsewhere but should present role-focused titles on the resume to help recruiters picture you in that position.

Hey everyone, this is self made Millennial. I'm Madeline Mann. Today I'm giving all of you entrepreneurs out there a hot resume tip to give you the edge. For all of you who are transitioning from working for yourself to now applying to go work at other companies, you've done it all. Being an entrepreneur is some serious business boot camp and you feel like you could actually do the work of a lot of different departments. But yet, as you're applying to roles, you are not getting those calls back. What's the deal? Well, but this sounds like the creature in your head. Then here is a quick fix for your resume that will help you to get more interviews. When running a business, people tend to give themselves the title of Founder or CEO or something in that vein. And while that completely makes sense for the job you're doing before, it most likely doesn't match the roles that you are now pursuing. You need to use the language of the companies and positions you are targeting. So that means switch out CEO and founder and replace it with titles cliche closer to the role you're pursuing, such as Marketing Director or Lead engineer. And then write your accomplishments on your resume as reflecting and referencing some of the language used in the job description. Make sense? Let me give you an example. So while you did many things when you were founder, let's say that you were deeply involved in the product and you want your next role to be in product management. Great. So make your title for your company Product manager in the bullets. For that role only. List achievements related to product management. I know as founder you did a lot of other stuff. You were employee of the month every month at your own gig. But do not talk about the business development deals you did or you balancing the budget. Focus strictly on product. Don't get it twisted. This is not about being secretive that you were a founder. No, you could totally say that in one of your bullets or explain it in an interview. It's that by labeling yourself as a specific role, it helps the hiring manager and recruiter to better picture you in that role at their company instead of being distracted by all this talk of other things you did as a founder and CEO. Well, all you beautiful people, that is all. Please hit a like on this video as well as subscribe for new videos every week just for you. Thanks so much everyone. Wi Fi high five.
