Being the parent of an addict must be very difficult, and I— but I wouldn't know about that. What I do know is that being an addict parent is a unique kind of shame. If you are a parent and feeling guilt around the decisions you made while in active addiction, here's my invitation for you to let that you-know-what go. Can't say it on social media. First, you're not alone. I exposed my kids to unspeakable dangers. People and situations. I put my kids second to my addiction repeatedly. Second, I want to say, stop allowing the past to steal your present. Maybe they're not talking to you. Maybe they've disowned you. Maybe you're not even allowed to see them. Your job in this current moment is to be the best and highest version of you. Investing in yourself will cause the universe to conspire in your favor. It will all line up. It's not your job to put the puzzle together.
