I want to share this again. This is a way that I stopped the pattern of relapse in my life. It's when I acknowledged and met my alter ego. He's sitting right here beside me on the bench. A lot of us grew up being good boys and girls so we wouldn't upset our parents. So by suppressing the other part of ourselves, an alter ego was created— the bad boy. My bad boy loved to dress up in black and go to a drug deal. He loved to steal from Target and Walmart. He loved forging checks. He also loved taking sexual risks in public. I'm so glad I never got arrested for any of that. The point is, I started being addicted to crystal meth not as much for the sex as for the alter ego to be able to come out because it felt so freeing. I felt like I could be myself. So what I had to do was name him, get to know him, understand what it is he needs, and give him that in a different way. By acknowledging that part, getting to know it, you are no longer allowing it to control you. If you want to talk more about this, just schedule a free session with me.
