A person adopted and raised by a single mother describes growing up around heavy drinking, retrieving beer from the fridge at three and sipping it by five. They frame their early exposure to alcohol and cigarettes as evidence of inherited addiction passed down through generations of family trauma.

So I was like born into trauma, you know, I was up for adoption and like, you know, all of this drama before I was even breathing air into this world. Right. Um, and so, yeah, you know, was raised by, you know, single mom and her parents, my grandparents, um, raised around alcoholism. My grandfather was an alcoholic, God bless him and may he rest in peace. But, you know, I knew how to get a can of beer out of the refrigerator every 15 minutes. For him by the time I was 3. So I was already like curious-minded with alcohol from as far back as I can remember, you know. And then eventually I got clever with it and I would open the fridge door and crack it open and take a couple of sips. I mean, I was like, like a baby doing this. Um, and same thing with like, you know, like I'm an addict through and through, right? Mm-hmm. So like, man, if I saw a half-smoked cigarette in an ashtray when I was 5 years old, you better believe I'm taking that puppy got back, and I'm gonna burn her down.
