In the 1980s and 90s, HIV was a death sentence. Today's antiretroviral drugs are a "fairy-tale" transformation: people with HIV live normal lifespans, have children, and build full lives. Sex is about intimacy and connection, not just making babies, and people with multiple partners can form real, meaningful bonds.
Where we are today with HIV treatment and management is a fairy tale compared to the '80s and '90s. No one was able to see how far the medications could go. And now people can live to full life expectancy, have their own kids. So huge jumps forward. And so what we need to do is come to terms that sex is a very human thing. We— it's not just for procreation. We do it for fun. We do it for intimacy. connecting with people, and I do feel that people who have multiple partners do have a genuine connection with someone.
