Dallas Bragg breaks methamphetamine recovery into three parts: the physical sensation of a craving, your awareness of it without judgment, and the story you tell yourself about it. Reframe that story from "I'm failing" to "This teaches me what drives my cravings," and you change your whole relationship with triggers.

Alright, so here's the key to successful meth recovery broken down into 3 elements. Number 1, direct experience. That's what's actually happening in your body right now. Number 2, awareness. Your ability to witness that experience without judgment. Number 3, the story. The meaning you assign to what's happening. So, for instance, when a craving comes along, the experience is real. You may feel it in your body. Then you observe what's happening in your body with awareness. And at that point, you have the opportunity to create the story or give it meaning, right? You can place a disempowering story around the craving, like, I must be doing something wrong, or an empowering story around the meaning, like, here's an opportunity to learn more about what is initiating my cravings, making my recovery stronger. The same goes for triggers. The same goes for relapse. Recovery is about transforming your relationship with the world around you by taking agency of the meaning.
