You know, one of the most triggering experiences for my clients in the beginning of our work together is when they travel alone, of course, and especially when returning home from a trip. Many men will even get in the Uber at the airport and go straight to the chemsex party. There is something about returning home from a trip that makes men want to use meth right away. This is why I have this simple travel safety plan tool I utilize with my clients. We begin with visualization, practicing laying the phone down or practicing saying no, adopting a mantra to take with them, to put it on their mirror, put it on their phone screen, whatever. We will schedule check-ins with me and their support group, go over their schedule to pinpoint any danger zones while they're there on the trip, and of course create a transition plan back home, etc., etc. This sets them up for a successful trip if their goal is abstinence.
