Dallas Bragg, a chemsex recovery coach, uses leaving one dish unwashed as a metaphor for how people cling to a final reminder of their substance use—a phone number, contact, or bong—to pause recovery. Washing that last dish means accepting the transformation and moving forward without shame.

All right, what does washing your dishes and recovery from crystal meth misuse have in common? Hi, my name is Dallas. I'm a chemsex recovery coach helping men who have sex with men. So I had a client just casually mention one day that he tended to leave one dish left unwashed, something small like a glass or a fork. When we explored that, we discovered that by leaving one piece unwashed, He could basically pause that job and you didn't have to face what's next because once the dishes were done, that meant he had to do the next chore. This type of behavior is really common in men who are on the last legs of a chemsex misuse and can't seem to completely stop using. And once I dig deeper, I find that they are hanging on to that one last phone number, that one last Telegram contact. That one last bong in their closet, that one last using video in their phone. Subconsciously, they know that once they take that step and wash all the dishes, they will have to face what's next. If this is you, if this is you, please understand that recovery is at your own pace. Try not to shame yourself or allow others to pressure you. This is a step that takes courage and finality. And finally, hammering the last nail in the coffin of the man you used to be. This ain't an easy step, but you'll get there. And if this resonates with you, I want you to follow me for more.
