A gay man in recovery from methamphetamine use describes how meth fuses drug effects with sexual behavior, making them nearly impossible to separate. Real recovery means removing meth entirely, then deliberately rebuilding who you are as a sober gay or bi man and what sex means to you.

And I think we have to look at the nature of chemsex as well. You know, in my experience, there's 2 sides of the camp. There's those that would use meth to facilitate the sex, and there's those that would use meth to just get wasted, right? Yeah. But regardless of why they're using it, because of the way meth works, it creates hypersexuality in most people. I almost kind of imagine the drug and the sex like 2 copper wires that are being fused together. Mm-hmm. And then we have to kind of untangle that. So we're going to put the drugs out of the equation. They just have to go, right? But the sex, it's just really about developing a healthier relationship with, with your sex and kind of reducing any negative consequences that might be left over from your using days and really looking at who am I now as a sober, sexual, gay man or bi man?
