Dallas Bragg argues that quitting meth won't make you happy if unhappiness came before the addiction. He says the real work is building a vision of who you want to become, facing hard emotions, and choosing that future over old patterns. Abstinence follows naturally when you have something worth staying sober for.

You think if you could only leave meth behind, you'll be happy. Listen, you weren't happy before meth came, or you wouldn't have become addicted to it. Removing the substance does not magically erase your mental and emotional issues. I've seen too many people white-knuckle their way to sobriety, only to ask, now what? Why do I still feel like shit? The goal isn't to stop using, It's to create a life so fulfilling that substances become irrelevant. Ask yourself every day, am I choosing my future self or my past self? Do I even know who this future self is? What difficult and uncomfortable emotions am I ready to endure? When you have a compelling vision of who you are becoming, abstinence becomes a byproduct, not the mission. So stop focusing on what you don't want and start obsessing over what you do want.
