Dallas Bragg says people get stuck in recovery because they haven't grieved the version of themselves from active addiction. On crystal meth, he embodied a dangerous persona he misses. To move forward, you have to consciously let that person go and discover what needs it was meeting, then find healthier ways to meet them.

Sometimes your recovery is stalled because you haven't grieved who you were in active addiction. Some of you feel like it's not right to like who you were, to enjoy who you were, to miss who you were. Listen, on crystal meth in active addiction, I was dangerous. I was risky. I was out there. I was channeling my Walter White every single day. Yes, I do miss that person. I had to grieve him. I had to lose him as someone in my life. I had to put him to death. The work in recovery is to give yourself what that person was giving you in other ways. But you're not going to know until you put him to death and go through the grieving process, because that's where you're going to learn what it was you were getting from that version of yourself. If you want to know more about the grieving process, I have a newsletter on it, but I also talk about it in my one-on-one coaching called Recovery Alchemy. Just shoot me a DM.
