Dallas Bragg explains narration, a recovery tool where you speak your cravings or difficult emotions aloud to weaken their grip. By externalizing the feeling through words, you can dialogue with it instead of letting it control you from inside your head.

I've been talking about this powerful but very simple technique that my clients have been using in their recovery journey, and I just wanted to share it with you. And that is what I call narration, or audibly chronicling what you're feeling. So by speaking it out loud, the power is taken away from whatever it is— cravings or difficult emotions. When my clients are feeling cravings, I suggest they send me a voice memo, or send one to themselves or someone else, or just say it out loud wherever they are. Parts of me are having cravings, or part of me is sad. You know, once that energy is taken from the internal to the external through the words, its potency is dulled tremendously. Then you can actually have a conversation with it, right? Why are you here? Where do I feel you? What can I do next? Etc. By the time you have spoken through the experience, often it goes away. Try it yourself and let me know in the comments.
