Dallas Bragg, a chemsex recovery coach, argues that lasting recovery comes from building daily systems and routines, not willpower or goals. He recommends James Clear's Atomic Habits and emphasizes proactive planning for high-risk periods like weekends. Once your system is solid, momentum builds and emotions lose their grip.

If you're in chemsex recovery and you want a book recommendation, look at— listen up. My name is Dallas. I'm a chemsex recovery coach helping men who have sex with men. So the best recovery book out there is not a recovery book, and it's called Atomic Habits. I'm sure you've heard of it, by James Clear. To me, if you read that book, it's above any of these books on shame or being gay or anything else. This is how to do chemsex recovery, and one of the main quotes that is most powerful is that you will not rise to the level of your goals, you will fall to the level of your systems. This is the key here. Are you living a systematic life, or is life living you? Do you have a morning routine? Do you have a noon routine? Do you have an evening routine? Are you locked in to waking yourself up all day long, getting out of old patterns of Old patterns of emotion, old patterns of behavior. Are you asking yourself all day long? Am I being somebody who doesn't use meth? Am I being my best and highest self? Or am I living as somebody? Am I thinking as somebody? Am I speaking as somebody? Am I acting as somebody who uses? Am I being a reflection of the life that got me to? To where I am now? Because if you keep doing the things you've always done, you're going to keep getting the things you've always got. What is my system? Do I have a routine? Have I built infrastructure? Do I plan ahead? Do I look at the weekends that I'll probably use? Do I look at the days off when I'll probably use? Am I looking at my danger zones? And am I prepared in the best way through a system To live my life. Because once you build the infrastructure, once you build the system, then you get momentum. Then you just let go. You let go because you're inside the boundaries. You're not letting outside circumstances dictate your emotions. You're not letting outside circumstances dictate your life at all because you're in control. You've built a system. You have to take control here. You have to do this work because if you don't have a system in place, then any kind of steps work or any kind of other program or coaching or therapy is not going to be effective because you're at the whim of everything on the outside of your life. If you use— there's a system in place that extracts the positives from it. There's a system in place where I learn from it. There's a system in place where it is not a failure. It is a stepping stone on the way to build a system. And if you want help with that, just comment the word group below. We'll get you a free session with me or my team.
