My entire filming setup for Ads & YouTube videos (with links)

Daniel Fazio walks through his permanent filming setup for YouTube and ads, including a Sony ZV-E10 camera, Shure microphone, Elgato Cam Link, and multi-light rig. He shows his OBS configuration for recording MKV files with hardware encoding, and his standing desk with an under-desk treadmill so he can walk while filming.

I want to walk you guys through my entire filming setup for YouTube videos, ads, and how I'm able to get so many of these out. I think a premise you need to understand as to why I'm able to produce a pretty high quantity of stuff is that it's easy for me to do it right. I have the filming set up already. It's there. It's easy for me to sit down. All the stuff is there. So, like, you're going to see my whole setup. I don't move this setup. All the lighting stays where it is, the camera stays where it is, the microphone stays where it is. I don't have to screw with a bunch of tech stuff to do this continuously. It's just always there, there. If I need to film, I just turn it on and I start filming. I think one of the problems that people have if they're intending on filming ads for themselves or they're intending on making content is that they make it difficult to set up the stuff. They're using their phone and they just set up some tripod or some external mic. It's a whole project to do it. My entire point of my life is I'm trying to make. Nothing is like a giant project. It's super easy to do this, and that's why I do it. All of it's set up. I don't move it. That's specifically why I'm able to do this. So let's walk through my full set up and then I'm going to leave a link in the description with affiliate links for all of the stuff that I bought, every single thing I bought, so you can go buy it. So if you want to help me make some money, you can go through those links. All right, cool, let's go. So this is my desk, computer, external monitor. So what we have over here, this is the camera, Sony ZV E10. And it has an Elgato teleprompter on top of it. So it literally like, there's like a ring that goes around the lens and you like slide it on top. And then this wire, it's not plugged in right now, but I put that behind here and it goes to this little docking station over here. Now with lighting, what you need to understand about lighting is that because this is my background, this is a huge problem because there's a lot of light now when you're filming yourself, it has to be brighter in front of you than is behind you. So for instance, I have OBS open right now and this kind of Looks okay on the camera, but it doesn't look okay on the actual screen. Like this is super dark. So what I would have to do is over here I have this thing that powers this giant light. This is a light box. And a light box attaches onto the actual light. So for instance, I was filming last night, so it's at like 1%. I have to like put this all the way up and it takes a while, but I'll just leave it like that. Now this, this light is on and then this looks substantially different over here now. So if I go back, turn this off, it's significantly less bright. And now for instance, we have this light over here. This is a little thing I've got set up. And now you can look at the difference and it lights up. It's a key light. Now I use this one over here just for additional lighting. And then this one over here. Sometimes I bring over and I put that on top of my head. Now we've got this mic. This is a road stand and a sure mic. So what this does is this road stand like attaches to this desk right here. And then this wire goes along this and attaches into this little hub here. Quick note, on this camera, Sony ZV E10, I have a micro HDMI that's coming out of that camera over to here to a regular HDMI that plugs into an Elgato Cam Link 4K that plugs into the hub. This hub plugs into my MacBook. This is for the external monitor over here. This is the charger. That's how that works. Okay, so the way that obs works is you have scenes and then scenes have sources. So for instance, I have only face right here. And then the source of this is cam link. You'd literally like click this and then it would be video capture device. I have a video capture device device. Sometimes it'll have the source and then it won't like work properly. So then you'll have to add the source back. But I'll say create new. Then you have all the available inputs. Camlink 4K, you have the MacBook Pro camera. So if I do the MacBook Pro camera, it's literally me staring back at you just like that now that these sources are in the scene. So like I'm actually going to delete that source now because that doesn't need to be there. And then we have sure. So sure is this sure mic right here. And then you have other different kinds of stuff. So like I have a side by side of over here. So like for instance, there's a side by side Gamma Doc. So what will happen is if I move this up here, for instance, now it's a side by side of me on the left, on the left over here. And then on the right side would be the display of this Mac. So like I'll pull up a document on this screen and then the filming is just me side by side with it. Now you can resize these windows, you can go into it and then you can adjust the properties of it. I think it's transform. Or on your Mac you can hold down, I believe it's the option or control. And then you drag it, it'll like crop it for you. And then I have like a loom style recording of the big screen and the loom star recording, just the Mac camera. You can just adjust this. You can adjust the sizing of all the different sources. You can add different sources to scenes as you're actively recording. You can go from one scene to another. So I can start like this and then I go like this still in one recording. Now a couple other things with obs, I'm not going to go too deep into it, but one thing I found was that you need to make it so that when you record it's going to make an MP4 file. It's always going to be like that. That's what I believe it defaults to. I have found huge problems with that because what happens is sometimes the file will get corrupted and you can't recover it. And then you just film for 30 minutes and you're like, you want to off yourself. You know what I mean? So what I do is record the files to dot MKV files. Now what MKV files are, is you need to do what's called remuxing them in order to turn the mkv file into an mp4 file or dot mov file. You remux it. Now there's also a setting somewhere buried in obs, I don't know where. You just go look it up online. You'll be able to find it where you change the file recording the default file type to MKV and you auto remax it. So like what happens is, for instance, I'm going to start recording over here. All right, it's recording. Yada yada yada. Hello, hello, hello. And now what you'll see over here is on my desktop because I set my default destination to be the desktop. It's an MKV file. Now what I'm going to go over here, I'm going to Click stop recording. And then it auto remux the mkv file into an mp4 file. So then now I use that mp4 file. It auto remixes it. Now a couple other things is let me open this up real quick. I go to my settings. I believe it's in output and then recording, you have encoding. So, so I use Apple Vth264 hardware encoder. And then you'll have bitrate right here. If your bitrate is like really, really high when you start recording, you might get like a war over here that says like encoder overloaded. When your encoder is overloaded, the file is just going to be corrupted when you stop. So you have to change this bit rate down. This is going to depend on your computer. I have an M4 MacBook Pro. So I'm at 12,000 kilobytes per second. If I change this to like 20,000 kilobytes per second, the file size of each file is going to be like 80% larger. The higher the bit rate, the clearer the picture looks. So like kind of like screw with it a little bit. OBS is free software. You just connect all your sources to that. That's how this works. So the Google Doc and the link in the description has not only just links to everything, like the actual of everything I bought, but a considerable amount more directions and like how things actually work together. So you also could just download the full dock and feed it into an LLM and it will give you full setup instructions for you. Now also another thing I have is a walking treadmill. Like I just put this under my desk. This is probably one of the best purchases I've ever bought. If you sit at your desk a lot and like you probably find that if you sit here and you work all the time, maybe you work too much and you don't go outside or you don't hit the gym as much and you start packing on pounds. Like this is one of the best things I've ever bought. I average like 17,000 steps a day now with this, so might be another thing that you consider buying. And then this standing desk right here, it has these like little, little things. So I have one of them is set to my sitting down position and another is set up to my sitting up position. Now what I need to figure out is how to get the camera to adjust with that so I could film my also walking. That would be awesome. I'll figure that out at some point. But yeah, the link in the description will have a bunch more context and the exact links to everything that I bought and have on this setup. So go check that out. And if you want to see other videos I have about scaling your business, getting clients, I'll leave that in, like, a video, a playlist, or a link to a video over here, so you can go watch that, like, subscribe to the video, whatever. All right, Peace. Love you. Bye.
