Amy Christensen and Brian Bowen wrap up their four-part series on Traditional Chinese Medicine by connecting the 12 primary meridians to emotions like grief and joy, plus lifestyle factors like sleep and diet. They explain how imbalances show up as digestive problems, insomnia, and fatigue, and why acupuncture works best paired with tai chi, qigong, and real changes to how you live.

I like them just create these little art pieces and it's just very fun to be creative.
It is fun to be creative. Is an expression of the liver meridian, Amy. Oh, yeah. Creativity.
Really? Creativity is the liver meridian.
Yeah. So the live. The liver is the component that helps with insights and creativity and that kind of visceral feel of things. And then the gallbladder is the part of it that takes it to the next step. So it's the part that actually puts the plan together and how to execute.
Oh, but does that mean that if you are living out of congruence with your creative side, if you are meant to be creative in a way and you're not living that way, could that cause other issues that fall within your delivery?
Yeah, that could definitely create. Create like in simplicity, like liver cheese stagnation because it's not flowing and it's not that. So to invoke to that. So when people don't have creativity or they. They don't have insights and they can't. Or maybe they have some insights and some creativity, but they can't ever take it to the next level to express it. So it's oh, I love an artist, but I just can't seem to break out the paints. I can't seem to seem to get myself to that art class. So that's more working with the gallbladder to help like that courage. Maybe. Maybe it's around. I'm afraid I've lost all my skills and I'm afraid to get back into it or whatever. So sometimes that's working. More gallbladder stuff versus stoking and trying to get the liver chi flowing to help create the vision to create the insights.
Oh, my goodness.
And same thing. Even like with a business plan, it doesn't have to be all art. It can be like, think about somebody who has all these great business ideas and this creativity, but they can't seem to take the steps forward to actually pull the trigger to launch or pull the trigger to do whatever. Right. That's gonna be more gallbladder. Some people just feel lost and they're like, I just feel like there's something there. I just don't, I don't know what I wanna do. I just feel like I'm meant to do more or whatever that can be. That can be a liver.
Hey friends, thank you for listening to the All Things Good for your podcast. Join us as we explore ancient traditions, modern tools and practices in the world of health, wellness and personal development. I'm Amy Christensen, your host and your curated mind coach.
And I'm your co host, Brian Bowen, founder of Integrative Health Inc. And Better Human Company High Performance Coaching. Are you ready to take control of your life and start feeling enthusiastic, empowered and limitless each day and every day for a life well lived? Let your curiosity flow with all things good for you. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, Amy. How you doing?
Good morning it is. I'm doing very well. I just got up early this morning, which I love doing, and I got to go out and see the sunrise, which I love doing and get my circadian rhythm going. And then I came in and I did a little bit of artistic expression. So I did some artwork this morning and that makes me feel very happy. So I already feel hugely successful with my day.
Good job. Waking up is always a good start to your day, so good job on that. That's important. And then yeah, to be able to do something you love first thing in the morning to set your day off right is amazing. So I commend you for that versus sitting there and going through your emails first thing in the morning, which creates nothing but stress and anxiety.
I avoid the stress and anxiety as much as I can personally. It certainly is a better day and it makes me feel very much in in flow of life rather than fighting with life.
So you got your wu wei on.
Got my wu wei. Oh my gosh, I love that word. How about you? How was your day? How's your morning?
It's off to a rock and start. First of all, I get to spend this time here. Had my little kind of nice quiet time in the morning. I did not do any artistic expression though.
But you just jumped up and down on the trampoline.
I did just jump up and down on the trampoline. So that's always a good start. So no, I have a beautiful day lined up of productivity and kind of calm groundedness throughout the day. I'm trying to be productive but stay calm and grounded. So I've been spending my have a new little thing added to my personal morning routine of a series of kind of questions I ask myself and have and talk with and it's really helped set the stage for the day. Not that we need to digress into that. We can talk about that some other day.
Yes, but all of this leads up to just working in flow and recognizing our maybe areas anyway of weakness or and how that may overlap. I just feel good. I know, I know. I'm literally doing things that are good for me, like getting out in the morning and seeing the sunrise and getting those early UV lights into my eyes and watching Tavi run and play and getting nice cool breathing in the morning. And that's. That physically is good, but it's also emotionally good. And I feel like we're touching on a lot of things and that all just carries over into our energetic pattern, our wellness, our organ system, our disease process or lack thereof by doing these little things. And we're going to. It ties into how we're going to wrap up our four part series on traditional Chinese medicine. Last week we touched on the meridians and today we're going to wrap it up by working into maybe some typical, not always 100%, but some signs and symptoms and areas of the body that may be affected. If you aren't having flow throughout all the meridians or you're getting stagnation in one in particular, that maybe there may be some things that could be popping up for us there.
Yeah, no, I think that paying attention and looking at how we're moving through life to help prevent these energetic blocks from occurring and the flow of Qi is, is critical. So I think to be on the offensive side of stuff and to be able to have that awareness, just as our podcast is always about trying to bring awareness to health and wellness and get people curious and get people to hear and understand and listen to their body in a new way to be on that offensive side to where you are avoiding these imbalances and this blocks of energy moving freely helps us understand what kind of input we're putting into the body and what kind of things that affects. And so for those of you who are just joining us and have not listened to the previous three podcasts about the fundamentals of traditional Chinese medicine and the understanding of the body's energy, also known as chi, and how it flows and some of the different systems theories, please go back and listen to those. As Amy said today, wrapping it up specifically quickly talking about how those blocks of energy can affect the different systems and some of the signs and symptoms that could present because of those blockages and that stagnation.
And it just coincides with we, how we touch on the idea of Being aware what's happening with you internally, emotionally, physically, how that's expressing and working through life. And then how is that showing up in your body? And it, you know, just goes back to that whole analogy that you're very good at making about the warning signs in your car, you paying attention. You don't want to just wait for the warning signs to go off, but at least watch and pay attention when those little lights start flashing in your vehicle. Think about that in, in your inner life. And we can think about that a little bit like some warning signs that maybe there's some stagnation in one of the meridians. And that's a good starting place with acupuncture in Chinese medicine, right? Is if there's. It's not always 100%, but if there's an area or a symptom that's showing up regularly, that would lead somebody doing traditional Chinese medicine to work along that meridian line 100%.
Eddie, it's amazing too, just to pay attention with those warning signs. Those are triggered and compounded by our internal and external environment and influence. So I think sometimes we don't focus as much on both, as much as we should. The things around us, the people around us, all those external things that we. Environments and situations that we put ourselves in can influence us as well as things that we're not doing or things that we're doing as far as movement and exercise and diet and the nutritional stuff, for sure. But then something you and I love because we do coaching is the mindset and our perspective and the way we interpret things and the way, again, the input that's coming into our mind from news sources, social media, from friends, family member, all these things and how we receive and what we do with that information also creates and leads to some of these disharmonies and stagnations throughout the body. It's so important just to really know that every little thing that is happening does have a cause and an effect. And by paying attention and understanding that every little symptom we have, whether it is a loose stool to a sigh, means more than what you think it does or it has much more meaning and we don't have to. I don't want to lead to people overthinking this stuff because overthinking is a very common thing, especially in our Western society. And that is a lot. Creates a lot of imbalance in the earth element, in the spleen, stomach meridian, which overthinking that over mentally chewing over, worrying over fogs that system down and creates A lot of stagnation and that that itself can lead to digestive distress and loose stools. But it can lead to some cognitive stuff as far as memory and fatigue. And so there's all these little symptoms with that. So we don't want to. We're not trying to teach you something to make you worry or over consume you with more information that way you just take the information. You're like huh, that's interesting. Is there something that I'm doing? Is there something that around that is fueling that system to create that imbalance and how can I improve that? When we talk about the spleen being deficient because it can be overwhelmed by overthinking and worry, some of that means that we have to put barriers around the time we overthink and worry and give ourselves permission. But I think we talked about this previously. But then we need to start avoiding maybe some foods that are. That cause a lot of dampness and that can injure the spleen. Qi in Chinese medicine. So it's okay. Let's make this small dietary change. Let's put some boundaries around overthinking and over worrying. All of a sudden that diarrhea clears up or some of that fatigue and mental cloudiness and cloudiness in the mind can start to clear up. And so that's just an example of how it can affect your meridian systems and some signs and symptoms as it relates to the spleen chi.
So if you've got hiccups or whatever, indigestion or it doesn't mean you have to run out and think that you've got something physically wrong. You need to go see a doctor about your spleen or your stomach.

In Chinese medicine, they have names like spleen, stomach, liver, gallbladder, kidney, lung, large intestine, small intestine, triple heater, pericardium and heart are the meridian system. So you have these 12 primary meridian systems. They do have an organ name associated to them. There's a Chinese pinyin name that is used here. We use these, the liver. The primary names in English, more. But the reason they're called that is the meridian system. The energy flow that goes potentially, obviously sometimes it depends on the meridian. It can go from your foot all the way to your head. It can go from your arm to your chest or whatever. So they have these different paths, but it's because it passes through that organ system that its name is derived from. So you can have an issue in the meridian. So let's say, let's use an example of I had some sort of trauma on my foot, right? And it happens to be on the liver meridian. So there could be some trauma. Now. Yes, that can create some stagnation and issue. Anytime there's trauma, it creates chi and blood stagnation. And over a period of time, if that trauma and that chi and blood stagnation isn't cleared up in the meridian, yes, it can start to travel and we can start to have more problems throughout that line of the meridian, anywhere it's connected. And it's interesting even looking at this from the postural perspective or things like that. Sometimes we can have these deviations in one area and all of a sudden it's, oh, now I have this hip pain and oh, that happens to be on the same meridian line. So you can almost see this kinetic chain in the meridian from a musculoskeletal perspective start to occur. But it can certainly start to occur throughout that meridian system as a whole. But then you can start to have other signs and symptoms that are deeper show up. And then eventually it could end up actually showing up in an organ system as well. Usually not usually always before there is a Western medical disease occurring that is a diagnosed. So let's say you have gallstones, for instance, and gallbladder disease. There is always an energetic imbalance or influence that begins before it ever shows up in that way, before it actually manifests into a physical symptom. And that's where this can be a great preventative medicine is because you can determine and start to identify these blockages by signs and symptoms that might not mean much. For instance, if you catch yourself sighing, if you catch yourself being a Little irritable, right? That's an agitated that often is associated to the liver gallbladder system, the wood element in Chinese medicine. Long term stagnation, maybe that irritability builds and all of a sudden you're just not the best pleasant person to be around. And you start to have maybe some side, right length, side pain, and that's another sign. And again, maybe you do start to have more digestive stuff because of that. And so eventually, sure, it starts to show up as a disharmony in the organ systems. And maybe you develop gallstones or maybe you develop some other stuff around liver gallbladder. But energetically then balances usually start first. The lung, for instance, just to jump into that one. That's another pretty common one you can see. And the lung, large intestine are paired systems in Chinese medicine. And the metal element. And let's just say internally you had something happen and you had a loss and therefore you're grieving and you have a loss and you're just having a really hard time coming out of that. And over a long period of time that suppresses that system. And yeah, physically you can start manifesting other things. Maybe all of a sudden you start, not only do you have some grief and sadness, maybe all of a sudden you start to have some respiratory stuff, all of a sudden you develop a little type of asthma. Or maybe you start to have some stuff happening in the colon where you are having some digestive stuff. Maybe you start to have some skin stuff show up. You've never had eczema before. A lot of times asthma. And so skin conditions show up at the same time. Those are all associated to the metal stuff. And oftentimes, you know, in that situation too, especially if it's a kid who has asthma and eczema, a lot of times there were preemies and their lungs didn't develop. They're the last to develop and they were preemies. So their lungs weren't fully developed. So energetically from an early age, there already is an imbalance that kind of occurred there. And you start to have those physical symptoms show show up right away. I know that was a lot. I just did a dump there.
Yeah, no, that's great. So it is helpful to recognize some of the signs of stagnation or over both with the lung and large intestine. It can go from constipation and then go to loose stools. Is that stagnation? One stagnation and one like an overflow of that meridian, like too much much energy or too Much of it's running through if you're going to that extreme. Or is that.
Yeah, yeah, no, that's a good point. This, and this is where things get really complicated. Because if you haven't listened to the previous COD podcast, this is where we get into. This is where we talked about all the other things that can play a role. We had the different. The five elements and six stages, eight principles, all these different things that we talked about, these different systems theories. So to keep it, really, to try to keep it as simplistic as possible, you can have excessive and deficient type syndromes, okay? And some things can occur because there's not enough of something. And some things can occur because there's too much of something. And those elements and those aspects of too little of something or too much of something. For instance, in the aspect of the spleen, if you have spleen QI deficiency, that is a deficiency. There's not enough of something. But the spleen's job is to help transform, transport, and it has to do with. If it's bogged down with dampness and it's. Think about it like a pump, and it's not able to transform and transport and move this energy around and share with everybody else, it becomes bogged down. And so all of a sudden, now you have an excess of dampness that occurs in the body. And then too much dampness drains downward. So you're most likely going to have loose stools, you might have undigested food in your stool. And the more. The longer it's been stagnant excess, then it can develop a heat. So then you can have a damp heat. And it does get very complex. And so you can try to put as much as we can, some symptoms into these different categories, and very few of them are what I call hallelujah symptoms. And hallelujah symptoms are symptoms that pretty much, if you have this, it's associated 100% to the meridian, and there's very few of those hallelujah symptoms. So the instance of sighing or irritability is always has some sort of relationship with the liver. Meridian insomnia has other components to it, but there's usually always a heart element component to it. But it can have other things. Right? It can still have components of how the liver interacts with the heart and how the. If there's heat in the system and heat rising, that can agitate the systems. But then that's when you start to differentiate. Is it insomnia with dream, disturbed sleep? Is it insomnia with blank? Is it Insomnia. So when you're talking to somebody, it's amazing. If all practitioners ask these amount of questions, it would be a much more thorough job of understanding where a patient's at. And I know I probably just confused a lot of things there.
Oh, I think it's good because again, it's not directly related. It isn't 100% in most cases. And that's again why it's a treatment process. It's not like you're going to go in and go, oh, you have this and this happened. Oh, we're going to give you this pill. And even in Western medicine it's a bit of a guess sometimes, it's just not always accurate. But that's why going to see a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner or an acupuncturist, it is a process over time and it can be subtle, but then building up over time, it's very impactful. And I think it's important like something that is being lost in Western medicine that hopefully is making a comeback with functional medicine becoming more utilized in the time of a doctor practitioner getting to know the client or the patient, like just really understanding what's really going on and taking the time to understand that there's, there can be a lot of different aspects going on in a person's life that's affecting their, the disease that's coming up in their body. And for instance, irritable bowel is, can be under spleen and stomach. Right. Loose stools can be under spleen and stomach. Loose stools can be under lung and large intestine. You can have an irritable bowel under the liver and gallbladder meridian. So that's why again it's, I'm sure each one of those there's more information about why it might be heavily leaning toward the liver gallbladder meridian imbalance as opposed to just a spleen and stomach meridian imbalance. But if you go into an acupuncturist, they're probably going to treat all of those.
Yeah. And that's why it's better to always get ahead of things like to, to be proactive and the earlier you get to stuff it's not in a chronic state when things, when you start to, when and unfortunately a large majority of people when they start seeing, seeking especially alternative health, they're usually sometimes often sorry in a chronic state. So meaning they've already been. They waited a long period of time, things didn't clear up. So then eventually they made their way to a primary care physician and then unfortunately, that process takes forever because it's dictated by insurance companies and it's hard to get into doctors. And then if you get a referral from your primary to your gastroenterologist or whoever, whatever specialist, that can take forever. And so I'm being dramatic, but it's so true. And then maybe then they're like, oh, we need some imaging. And then that takes forever. And so all of a sudden you're nine months down the road and you still haven't gotten proper treatment. Or they started experimenting and giving you some medications to see if this might work or this might work. And then all of a sudden it's over a year and you're in a chronic state. And then often then they come in. People come in and you know it's their last hope. They, they're like, we were referred by a friend. I don't know if I believe in it or whatever it is. So oftentimes you have people come in when the layers have been compounding on each other. Maybe it was more one system that was really affected and it was clear and cut at the very beginning. But over a period of time the imbalances and that kind of blockage starts to build up and then everything starts to get affected around it. It's the same thing. And in your communities and at your workplace, one thing gets thrown off a little bit. And over a period of time, all of a sudden you're like what the hell's going on here? So we. It takes more time.

So that's where it's often that you're at least treating maybe three systems at once because it's like how did which the root? What's the branch? Sometimes we Stop to treat the spleen. As far as maybe it was a spleen chi deficiency, but really it was the liver element that was more activated and maybe more. It was the kidney. So you have to sort through all that. So always encouraging people, hey, if something's off and if it hasn't cleared up by itself in a couple of weeks, like jump on it. And that's being generous. If you start having something, just start looking at it right away.
But do you think too just like what we were when we jumped in the call this morning? I mentioned, I got up this morning and did some artwork and you're like, that's liver expression or creative expression is the liver gallbladder and like meridian. Don't you think if maybe, I don't know, I like the way it becomes like it truly is a whole body, whole person process. And do you think if people understood a little bit of things like that, like this meridian is the kind of tied to this. And if you maybe if you're feeling these types of symptoms and you did more of this on top of acupuncture or outside of acupuncture, would you think that would create a healthier environment? Like, if I can look at liver gallbladder symptoms and there may be an imbalancer, I can go, I have a lot of them. And I know that when I was really little, I had significant spleen stomach issues. I had significant stomach issues for most of my childhood. I can look at that and go, oh, I think I actually, yes, I had this. And I just look at that and go, are there little things that we can be doing in day to day life? And recognizing that there's a. There could be a tie to it. Like me getting up and doing a creative expressive process and taking action towards it felt very rewarding and freeing. And I wasn't really particularly angry or irritable, but I could certainly see where I was or even like leaning in towards just depression. Can it be that influential? If we are understanding how to let our bodies be a full expression of these and help meridian lines and our body systems be healthier 100%.
And again, that can come externally or internally. So for instance, externally, like when people do Tai chi or qigong or certain exercises or movements, they're physically opening up the flow of the meridians throughout the whole system. So I think movement can externally influence and massage and things like that, the flow throughout those meridian systems as well as acupuncture. So there's a variety of things you can do externally. Now, just to go back to an internal aspect and look at it from that place. The kidney meridian is the big foundation in all of the systems. That's where the foundation of yin and yang come from. An earlier conversation that we had. And you can look at so many studies, the blue zones and the happiest people in the world and all of these things. And if you're living, if you have purpose, if you've identified purpose and you're living congruent and you are operating and participating and having, receiving and being grateful and you're working in your place of purpose, that is huge for that kidney system because don't forget it again, is that foundation. And we talked early on about prenatal and postnatal qi and the kidney essence is that prenatal qi that you can't replenish, right? So if you are operating and you're moving into your purpose and you're not being held back by fear and you're honoring that and stepping into that, that really is great and super healthy and keeps things moving in that kidney, urinary bladder, the water element system. And when things are out of balance and you don't have that, obviously not having purpose, you can feel lost, you can have a lot of fear and be fearful of things. But then you can start to have imbalance in that, the yin and yang aspect and that can lead to some weaknesses. You can have lower libido, you can have issues with short term memory, you can start having problems, hearing problems and problems with loss of hair. There can be all kinds of bone stuff, decrease in bone. Every system manifests and show up and it shows up in a different organ, different tissue, things like that. But again, I just wanted to bring up the kidney one because that is super, super important to stay on top of. But you can see that people who operate internally and are congruent and have identified and they have purpose in their life and they don't have this fear that's overwhelming them and they're moving. They live to be really long, healthy lives and they tend to, people tend to look younger when they're older. And every client I've had that is like 70 or 80 and they look like they're like 60. They've lived a life of purpose, right? They've had so many things that they're passionate about and that they contribute to and it's Jesus. I have this one lady that has been all over the world and she was an ambassador in Cairo and she's just so passionate about so many things and she's kicking butt and that's not uncommon. That's more common than not. And then you see people that don't have that and they're not aging as gracefully and they are having hearing problems and they are having a lot of other things associated that kettle meridian show up in that kind of loss of essence, if you will.
And so sorry to interrupt you because.
Oh yeah, we're gonna. Then you did. I went down a rabbit hole.
Well, and we can. And I'm just curious though, hey, liver you had mentioned is liver. Gallbladder can be ex. Creative expression and processing it. And you've mentioned kidney, bladder with purpose. Are there other. Can you do heart and small intestines, stomach, long and large intestine. Are there some overlapping things that connect to those. Those other meridians like that?
Yeah, absolutely. So. And again, when we get into like kind of the emotional piece and stuff, that does get into a little bit more of the five element model. And that's not taken into account like the dampness and the heat and all these other things that can be contributing factors. But I think it does give it a good general understanding. And again, I like to bridge the aspect of the internal influences, how that can affect us physically and how it can start showing up. The fire element really is about passion and joy, desires. Right. And. And out of balance, it can be reckless. So you have to be careful with this one because we want to have that joy. There's a thing called the firewater access where that joy and passion is coming from. Purpose of the water element. And that's the best kind of place to be in operating from with desires and joys from the fire element. But out of balance it can be reckless. We can have false joys and desires that aren't good for us, that aren't bringing us the right kind of joy and healthy things into our lives. Right. We can. We don't. It's not about following your desire of going to a rave and doing drugs all the time or. You know what I mean? It's more about like that good heartfelt. That good heartfelt energy and living from purpose that brings that kind of in super rich joy. And your heart feels so yummy and you feel so nourished inside. Right. And so out of balance. If you aren't having that, of course you have lack of joy. And when the heart meridian is out of balance and especially if there's deficiencies or excess, I guess you can have different types of sleeping problems, insomnia, things like that, heart palpitations, chest pain, you can be a little More restless and agitated. In Chinese medicine, it gets. It sounds funny. The heart houses the mind and so mind related stuff, agitation, mental restlessness and uneasiness, things like that can be heart related issues. And if we're not following our heart, if you're not following your heart's desire and you're not listening to that, that can create a lot of stagnation, right? If you're in relationships that are toxic and you're just, you're struggling at a heart level, that can create a lot of stagnation, that can lead to those heart palpitations, that can lead to mental agitation and restlessness and all those things. It's important. Do you, are you, do you have joy in your life? Is that joy from a place that's in line with your purpose? Are you being congruent there? Are you in healthy relationships, heartfelt relationships, or are you in places where people are taking advantage of you at that level? Are you finding things in your life that are fulfilling your bucket of joy? And it can be playful stuff like going to a tango lesson, right? But finding joy and finding things that inspire you. If you're living a life where you are constantly putting yourself in places, in environments, whether it's work or whether it's friends or whether it's home and it is not bringing you joy and it is creating a lot of stagnation there, it's going to lead to some other things for sure. And the sleep one is a big issue that, that we see on a.
Regular basis and we even know that on the physical side side of things, disrupted sleep, it does lead to poor, poor heart health. Very interesting the overlap there. Now do spleen, do spleen and stomach. What is that one?
And I know that one. We've already talked about a little bit more. And the spleen and stomach earth element is very nurturing and nourishing. So it's important to have healthy nourishment in your line and these all play a role in each other, right? So if you have good joy, good relationships, that's very nurturing and nourishing. If you're doing creative things from the liver gallbladder, that's very nurturing. So it likes to receive.

Think of nurturing, like things that kind of just feed your soul and feed your mind and it's that you may need to rest, but it's also a growth, comfort, encouragement.
Yeah. Yep. And it's really about integrity too. It's really important for Earth element to have that integrity. But it doesn't, it does not like that overthinking, it doesn't like that over worrying. So it needs. The earth element is about keeping us grounded. Right. It's about keeping us nourished. And again, it doesn't want to be, you know, overwhelmed because it nourishes all the other systems. That's one of its jobs. So if you're screwing it up there, whether it's from a nutritional perspective or whether it's from a mind level perspective, then you're depriving every one of those other elements. Right? So that's how it can, that's how impactful it is. Right. So it's a really important one. And if you look at the spleen and stomach, it's in the middle jowl, which is our center. So it's the center of everything. Right. So you can think about spleen, stomach, it's your center, it's your sphere that is in the middle of everything that nourishes and helps everybody else. And that's why I think when you have people with western medical stuff around spleen stomach, maybe even again, spleen stomach, we put the pancreas in that same area. So like diabetes and stuff like that, you start to see some of the, a lot of other symptoms show up with some of these other systems. And so that's why it, of course nutritional stuff is a huge impact on the system as well. But it manifests itself in the muscle tissue. And so a lot of times when we are deficient in this area, we do start to have some fatigue and what we call lassitude, which is I just got to sit down. Sometimes it's brain fatigue. Right. Your brain's just that cloudy and fatigued and can't focus and stuff like that. So it can show up in the mind as well. So a lot of other things that can show up as a edema, swelling because again, you have that dampness occurring throughout the body. If it's deficient, you can tend to have some bruising or bleeding, you know, pretty easily. Craving sweets is a big hallelujah symptom, if you will, for some spleen stuff. If you have this craving. Again, digestive stuff is always pretty much playing a role in spleen, stomach. So any sort of chocolate?
Get your chocolate.
Yeah.
And be in nature and hang out with some trees. This is all I'm thinking about. The nurturing stem spleen and stomach go out in nature. I do lung and large testing because I know we can just talk about all of them forever, but we're going to run out of time and I want to make sure we cover.
I know. So, yeah, that lung and large intestine, the biggest. The thing I love about the lung and large intestine from a coaching perspective is it's about value and it's about letting go. And this is a huge area, again, from a coaching perspective, that it's amazing how much this shows up from people. And so the metal element is located where you have the two. I just want to talk about this real quick. You have the yin and yang. The yin organ system is the lung and the paired system. The large intestine is the yang aspect and the lung one is in the upper jiao. So anything from the diaphragm up the lung and heart is in the upper jiao. And everything in the upper jiao has a higher energy associated with kind of spirituality and things like that. The metal element has big roots in our spiritual connection, our spiritual beliefs. So that's really important. But it has a lot to do with, again, things that we value ourselves, experience in our lives, experience from people, our loved ones, the people around us. And then it's really important about letting go. The lungs breathe in air. The stuff of valium lets go of everything that. That doesn't have any benefit to us anymore. And the large intestine absorbs the last of the minerals and essential stuff from our food and stuff. And then it lets go of the waste material. So you have this really obvious receiving and letting go. And so it's important for us to not just think about the things that is happening in our lives and really spending time thinking about, oh, my God, that was like, this conversation with you is so valuable. And what am I getting from it? How's it impacting me? What am I receiving from it? All the Good stuff. And then what are things I need to about this day? This is awesome. I love this. This is what I want more of this in my day. I'm gonna have to let go of some of this other stuff maybe in my day that isn't going to give me the value and nourishment and stuff I need, or maybe it's something with myself. So if we are not. If we're holding on to stuff that isn't value, if we're not receiving stuff that is of value and. Or if we have heavy stuff and we're over grieving and stuck in that, we can end up in states of depression and grief and sadness. And then again that manifests in a lot of things associated with the metal element. So the metal element has its expression in skin. So we can have a lot of different skin disorders show up, whether it's itchiness, whether it's eczema, whether it's rashes, all this other stuff. We can have things show up with the lungs, specifically around shortness of breath, asthma, allergies. The metal element has to do with your wei Qi, which is your defensive qi. So it's part of your defensive chi, part of your immune system. So if we're having immune system where we're getting dysfunction, where we're. Or deficiency where we're getting sick a lot, and we start having a lot of signs and symptoms on a regular basis, that shows that there's a problem and a weakness in that metal element, somehow it's been compromised. Anytime we start getting because of the termination of the meridian for the large intestine terminates around the sinus area, if we start getting a lot of sinus stuff, whether it's congestion, infection, post nasal drips, all that stuff, that can again be another sign and symptom specifically of that. And it's often again that you have digestive stuff that around that too. So those are some generalizations.
So I think about that one large lung and large intestine and that what you're taking in and what you're letting pass through or letting go and what are you absorbing from that? I think of that like in its metal, it's like a conduit, right? So I think of like a lightning rod or how metal actually works as far as energy passing through it. It takes what it needs and conducts it in a way, but then it also lets it flow and release. That's very interesting. That's.
And you see this another thing you show up, think about people kind of example, if you're Watching everything going on in the world right now and you are putting constant input in of all of the stuff. That's a lot. That's a weight. That's a lot of weight. And is that giving you. What value is that giving to you to do that to yourself? Just to constantly be loading yourself up. If you're sitting in front of your TV and you're just consistently watching, I don't care if it's fox, I don't care if it's cnn. I don't care if it's whatever information. If you're just putting that in your brain on a regular basis, you have to just stop and it's okay. What is this? What kind of value is this bringing to me? How's this. What is this doing to my stuff, to me? And it's. And if you're not letting go of that, which so many conversations with people I have on a regular basis, it's freaking heavy. And that's depressive. And that's creating a lot of stagnation. And the, the metal element is supposed to nourish. One of the things that nourishes is the wood element. And if it's out of balance and it's so stagnant, it's going to overreact. It's going to, it's going to be overwhelming to the wood element. And then that person who's. God, this is so sad. It's such a messed up world. I just feel like hopeless. I don't feel like there's. I don't want to be here. I've had people like, I'd rather die than be here in 10 years. And that kind of energy overwhelms the wood element. And all of a sudden the wood element is super stagnant. Not only is it irritable, but it's belligerent. And then you're having a conversation with somebody and they just come out of the gate aggressive and strong. You're like, hey, how are you doing? I'd be doing much better.
Yeah.
Or this president that's just. Okay. There's some aggressive imbalances there. I don't know why I went to that example.
It's very prevalent and easy to pick. No wonder what we think or decide what side you're on or whatever your release is. It's a very easy one. So I understand. But it's like a clear and good recognition of what you're taking in, what you're letting go or not letting go of and how that can build and affect other meridians. And other elements and become affected in a negative way on the liver gallbladder meridian. Yeah. Great analogy or great example.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Yeah, this is fun. I could talk about this stuff all day and I'm sure everybody really wants to hear have that happen. So thank you for entertaining me on that. But again, I just want to say I do have a 8:30 coaching call, so I'm super excited about that. But the, if you again are listening to this and you're like what the hell are these guys talking about? Go back if you haven't listened to the last three, they're actually, I feel really well sequenced and build on that. If you're really more curious about energy and the flow and how it's affected. Because a lot of other alternative or complementary medicines have a lot of roots or basis from these systems, from these ideas, from these concepts, from these philosophies and from this medicine.
And even with this, it led to some conversation about basis of my coaching program for Primal Question and the interesting overlying things that could be coming up for people of different types of needs and desires and focuses in their life. So we're going to, I want to, we're going to lead to that and delve into some of that in a future podcast. But I think all of it, if you can go back and listen to it and you just open your mind to how it all ties together and over overlaps all the different approaches, like you've said, like western approach or metaphysical approach, spiritual approach, there's, it's, it really does start to tie in the oneness of our body and our energy and how we can use all these different approaches to move us forward into a better being and better experience. And I think that's again something the whole purpose of why we wanted to put through into this podcast is just getting curious about overall health and wellness and all the different ways we can find all the things good for you so that you can be happy and healthy and live a really creative, productive life, whatever that looks like.
