Speaker Dave Willis reads Judges 21:25 and summarizes the period of the Judges in Israel as chaotic because “everyone did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” He draws a parallel to modern culture’s emphasis on personal truth/feelings, arguing that abandoning God’s standards leads to harm and dysfunction—especially within marriages where following feeling over God’s commands damages spouses and relationships.

Judges 21:25. In those days, Israel had no king. All the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. And during the time of the Judges, there was a lot of chaos. There wasn't centralized leadership, and people were just doing whatever felt right to them. They were following, quote, their truth, which is something we still hear a lot today. But just like today, it created a lot of chaos and turmoil and people abusing one another and justifying it because to them it seemed right to be able to abuse other people. When we get away from God's standards and instead just do what feels right to ourselves, we're going to end up harming ourselves and others. And in so many marriages, I think this is the key issue. We've gotten away from God's standard of doing what he says to do, and we've trusted our own feelings and we've said, well, this feels right to me, this seems right to me, so I'm going to do it. And we end up harming our spouse, harming our marriage, and harming others as well.
