Dave and Ashley Willis explain how trauma affects couples: hurt people hurt people, triggers surface unpredictably, and partners may test how far they can push loved ones away. They compare this to Hosea pursuing his wayward wife, showing what persistent love through pain looks like.
Hey friends, Dave and Ashley here. Welcome to the Marriage Minute on the Naked Marriage Podcast.
We're so glad that you're here, and we are doing the Marriage Minute because sometimes we just don't have time to listen to a full-length episode. So we want to give you a little tidbit of marriage encouragement as you go into your weekend. So let's dive in.
You know, all of us have something. There's no age barrier or anything when it comes to people being— need to be in their recovery, right? It's hurt people hurt people.
You know, trauma isn't linear. Sometimes you can't even figure out like the starting point. It's just, it can come up whenever we can recall it very fast, right? You know, when we're triggered with our trauma, sometimes we push those closest to us away, almost like testing them, like, how far can I take you? The best thing you can do— I mean, it kind of reminds me a little bit, and this isn't exactly the same story, but of Hosea and how, you know, when Hosea was pursuing his wife and how much she would push— you know, men had used her her whole life, and, um, and she just kept on wanting to push his love away. I would encourage you to go read that, read that story, and it's really a picture of of what God does to us and just pursuing us as the bride of Christ. Thank you all so much for joining us for today's Marriage Minute. We hope that you wanna hear more of this, so please join us on Monday for a full-length episode.
