We Ran a 5K! | Dave and Ashley Willis

A short vlog-style YouTube video (Dave and Ashley Willis) documenting their participation in the "Run for Hope" 5K supporting the Augusta Dream Center in Augusta, Georgia. The couple records pre-race excitement, on-course moments (mile markers, crowd support), and post-race reflections—using the event as a metaphor for marriage ("run your own race together"). They close with local ministry promotion and a call-to-action to subscribe or email for ideas.

Hey, guys. We are on our way to a race to help an amazing ministry that is here local in Augusta, Georgia, and it is called the Dream Center. The Augusta Dream Center.
That's right. I'm finally at a red light so I can actually safely look at you guys.
I'm looking in the wrong place. Yeah.
We never remember which end to like. So, yeah. The Dream center serves the whole Augusta area. It's connected to our church and it's its own separate ministry. Provides food, school supplies for kids, it provides clothing, it sometimes does medical care. And it's just a way to serve people. It's like putting our faith in Jesus in action. And we are so inspired by the mission that it got us out of bed on a Saturday morning to come do a race. We're not going to set any land speed records today. I don't think any Olympic scouts are going to track us down after today, but we're going to have fun. It's a beautiful morning and it's for a good cause.
That's right. So as you know, if you followed us for any length of time. We are huge fans of walking every night together. But Dave is an avid runner as well. I'm not. I've done like two 5Ks in my life. Dave's run a marathon.
Well, I kind of limped a marathon. Like, don't be too. It was.
Yes.
Took me a while to get across that finish line.
Many of us have never even attempted that. So I was telling Dave, like, we signed up to run this 5k, but we might very well. Or I might very well end up walking it, which is totally fine because it's for a good cause. My sweet friend Jenny was a huge part in putting this together and a lot of our church f have been involved too. And so we're so excited. But we will keep you updated.
We're here.
We're here. We're here. We're here. Yay. Here it is. Hope you can see it. The run for Hope 5k. Yay. See you in a bit.
I love it.
I'm the only one dancing.
And there's the finish line up ahead. Ashley's gonna be crossing that in record time. I can feel it.
I'll be other people who walk.
How you feeling?
Well, gotta stretch out.
The policeman there. Pull us over. Proceeding. How you feeling?
You are so welcome.
These are my heroes right here. Giving me water.
There you go.
Thank you so much. God bless you too. Have a good day. Gotta stay hydrated. That's right. I'm waiting for those. Donuts at the end. So what's the weather like right now, sweetie?
Muddy. I think it's probably like 90 something.
I'd say at least 110. We're gonna just round up for the viewers. It's hot. That's the reason we're walking. There's the one mile marker, which is disappointing because that felt a lot more like three miles. Got the Sloan family cheering us on. And I love this sign. And, Alexa, how's your arm? Fine. Mile two, how you feeling?
Feeling good. Happened to walk. Have a little pain in my left ball of my foot, but we're still going strong.
Well, if you are feeling half as good as you're looking, then you are feeling amazing.
Oh, my goodness.
See, there's some of the best signs and cheers on the course so far. Georgia is the home of the Bulldogs, And there is a real Georgia Bulldog right there. This is why I ran right here. Emily Taylor. Nice job.
We did it. Whoa.
We won.
Well, actually, we didn't win. We won in our own way.
We won by spending time together.
Yes.
Connecting with friends, helping a good cause. And this is a legit medal, like, just for participating.
I love it.
So we thank you. Augusta Dream Center. If you're anywhere in the Augusta, Georgia area, check out. The Dream center is a way you can serve, a way you can help. But wherever you live, look in your community for something similar. Almost every community has something like a Dream Center.
This was so much fun, and it's fun. We had some friends who won in their age categories. We weren't out to win. We wouldn't have won, probably. Well, you could have won. No, I slowed Dave down. I am. You guys, I am not a trained runner. I am an avid walker. We walk almost every night, usually, like, three to four miles. So we, you know, I have that, and I. I love exercise, but running has just not been my traditional exercise. So that was a little hard. We started out running. My foot started hurting a little bit.
But you pushed through.
We ran walk it.
So we did run walk it.
That is okay.
And we had fun. We did have a lot of fun. And I think one of the marriage lessons in this, there's several is. Is like, run your own race together. Don't worry about the comparison trap of saying, oh, we got to keep up with these people, or we've got to do what those people are doing. Just stay together and. And finish strong. And then number two is be. Be there with each other. You know, you're going to. At different times in life, you're going to want to go at a different pace. And there might be a temptation in any part of your life to run off and leave the other one behind. But there are so many times where, you know, Ashley could run off and leave me behind in different areas and she doesn't. And today on the race is one of the very few things where I could have run off and gone a faster pace. It would have been fine. It's not a sin to run as hard as you can in a race, but just in the metaphor, keeping with the metaphor, Try to stay together. And because we stayed together, we got to enjoy it and experience it together as a team. And I'm so glad we did. It was. It was a great morning.
It was just up in our game. We usually just take a walk at night or in the morning, and this was, like, bumping it up.
We're in numbers. I mean. That's right.
Yes. My watch is showing, like, lots and lots of rings on it for exercise. I'm loving it.
So now we're going to go eat a bunch of calories to completely undo any health benefit from the exercise we did. Maybe I'm going. I've already had a Krispy Kreme. I just. I can't help myself.
I tried to resist, but they are. They are delicious. If they're not hot now, though, is.
It really that you're hot now?
You know what I mean?
I know what you mean.
